  • thumbs up for the tumbleweed

  • I drive one of these :) 3dr silver with 5spd manual. the ride is firm as is everything else but not to the point where its harsh. It handles well and corners flat. Only problem is that the gears are really short and it really needs that 6 speed found only on the turbo charged 2 liter to wring out the best gas milage.

  • I am from Serbia, Europe. In Europe this car is very popular because of its low MPG and its size, but. A year ago, I had an election, to buy NEW Opel (Saturn) Astra, or couple years old Audi A6. I am not sure for Saturn, but OPEL Astras equipment is so fucking low, for example, in 2nd stage you got MIRRORS IN BODY COLOR AND AIR CONDITION!!! Hey, ofcourse I have bougth an Audi A6 1.8 turbo, it is going twice faster, twice smoother and it has 7 time much more equipment!!!

  • Everybody knows that the original is OPEL ASTRA

  • An actual European car imported to the US and not dumbed down. go figure. It's just too good for us. So good GM had to kill it.

Just like the HHR SS, G8, and EV1

Also, the Chevy Astro (not related to the Astra) was the rare American vehicle that sold decently in Japan! WOW! Of course they had to kill that, too.

Oh GM, you're doing a great job.

  • @bottomlayer When I listened the word "ASTRA" over Saturn in 2008 I knew this wasn't an American car anymore, since in Latin America the car was selling since the year 2000 or 1999 under the name "CHEVROLET ASTRA" and which is made by Opel of Antewrp, Belgium, Belgian Singer ZIPPORA features the car in her video "NEVER AGAIN", I wanted to buy this car brand new but many things going on life made me to avoid the car :( , maybe the problem of sales here in US is that they sold in under Saturn

  • Volkswagen "Rabbit". Why in the name of Prime did VW bring back that rubbish nameplate? There was nothing wrong with "Golf". Other than that... sucks that Saturn is gone and so is this car. Yet, the Old Folks Home of GM (Buick) remains because it's so popular in China. WTF? Should have trimmed down Pontiac and Saturn to their only unique models and kept 'em.

  • It´ s quite a good car, reliable and well built. It was introduced as an Saturn in 2008 but started as Opel/Vauxhall Astra H in 2004. I´ve driven 1.3 CDTI (the Fiat diesel with 66kW) and 1.6 petrol, both are quite good and had no problems. The diesel had about 120 000 km´s and had no issues at all, it needed more revs when fully loaded but otherwise it was nice to drive.

  • love this car.. hopefully I will be able to get a used one because by the time i'm looking I don't think they will be selling new ones anymore :(

  • When I was living in the UK a friend of mine had a new Corsa 1.2 (80 bhp) - it was slow but not really horrible to drive (although you had to downshift at approx 30 mph if you were going up a hill because of low-end torque deficiency). Interior quality was really good and it was also quiet.

I wish it was sold in North America.

  • @runforit420 I heard rumors that one aunt in Mexico had that same car too, and they were sold as Chevrolet and told me that 5 or 10 secafter u left the car and forget to put the window down, the windows will go up by itself, if so that tech you can't find it in an expensive Lexus or Acura, lol!

  • R.I.P Saturn, you were a great company!

  • I called Saturn last year and ask for an Astra, because I really like the design, but they would not negotiate the price with me. Somehow they think they got the best car in the world. So, I went out bought myself an Audi, I am so happy that I did that...........and what happened to Saturn now?........lol

  • Saturn actually built its reputation on not haggling over final price - sticker is what everyone pays. Threw me for a loop first time too, but that's the way the do business. As for where its going, Penske auto group is purchasing them - they're going to stay around a while, just not under GM.

  • The Penske deal just fell through...rip saturn I suppose

  • They should have taken the 260 hp lnf powertrain and FE5 suspension off of the Cobalt and put it into this car. Add a nice subtle lip kit and I think it would have done much better and been much more of a high seller than the Cobalt SS

  • @8BALT

In Europe you can get it as an OPC high performance version with around 240 turbo hp.

  • If Saturn could have introduced the Astra earlier in 2006 or 2007 it would have been able to establish itself in the market as a quality compact car

  • @dnur567 hey in UK astras mk5 launched in 2004 and now we have brand new mk6 whitch comming this month.i`d say they look nothing exeptional

  • @dnur567 I agree. It seems GM were doing that with every division when time sadly ran out! Pontiac, Saab and Saturn (Hummer was pretty much dead) all had great new products. Pontiac was getting heaps of attention and praise with its G8 built by GM Holden in Australia, Saab has the all new 9-5 based off new Epsilon 2 platform and Saturn was gaining traction with the Astra.

  • 2:42: Astra-1, tumbleweed-0!

  • This guy's voice is so obnoxious. He talks like he can't hear himself.

  • i bought a staurn astra 5 door with sunroof and love this car. I'm the only person on the road in my town with one and am loving it.. but man more people should get one.

  • @LauraTechnoPenguin here in UK nearly everybody has astra we call it vauxhall but its the same car.yeah its excelent car in any point.

  • Do you really need traction control with such a tiny engine and FWD.

  • Get one while you can, since Saturn is on it's way out.

  • My DAd just bought one of these and it is very nice bmw like comfort with corvette like handaling you gota get on of these and Ford People where is your sporty compact car yea i wonder

  • Opel astra.... ahahah Saturen astra.

  • I love the Astra 3 door. Honestly if I had to get a new car I'd definitely consider this.

  • The pricing defies all logic, if GM priced the Astra higher than a Golf/Rabbit in the UK they would be laughed all the way back to Detroit.

The Astra is nothing more than a fleet car in Europe, I'd be very surprised if many passed into private hands brand new., it's interesting to see how well it will do in the states.

Where are the American versions made as well? I know european 5-doors are made in the UK.

  • Sorry, my English is rusted. I'm very impressed by the US reactions of the Astra. I bought Opel Corsa for my wife. We hesitated with Astra. Opel is in Europe like popular cars. Ford Europe is popular too. It's the most sold cars in UK. Opel names in UK is Vauxhall. Opel & Ford are the cars most sold in Europe. Astra is sixth place of the 10 best sales in Europe. I hope one day in the USA, you can have the sporting versions of Opel, the OPC (Opel Performance Center) developed in Nürburgring.

  • I like it, but it's too damn expensive. Period.

  • waiting for the Saturn Astra Redline (vxr).

  • Imagine that 240hp engine with the electronic ride suspensión. Wait don't imagine, take a look at it.

    Opel Astra OPC.

  • i've been driving Saturns since the old S series. Great cars!

  • Shame you guys don't get the better engines. If you think it's a great car with the 1.8 (140 hp) engine you should try it with the 230 hp turbo :)

  • WHY GM DIDN'T DO THIS SOONER, I WILL NEVER KNOW WHY. THIS NEW SATURN IS VERY SHARP LOOKING, AND I THINK IT WILL SELL, DESPITE IT'S HIGHER COST. I HAVEN'T DRIVEN THIS YET (i plan to do so), BUT THIS IS A CAR I CAN'T FROWN AT; PLUS, SATURN IS DEFINITELY BETTER THAN A CHEVROLET. SATURN WOKE GM UP IN THE 90'S FOR THEM TO CLEAN UP THEIR ACT, ESPECIALLY CHEVROLET. BESIDES, SATURN IS THE FIRST GM DIVISION I'D LOOK AT IF I WERE IN THE MARKET, DUE TO HIGH SATISFACTION AND BEST QUALITY.

  • i have an astra, I LOVE IT! i love how every review rates average mpg at 25...im getting 28.3mpg in mine right now. with back road hill driving and town driving. its great. i recomend one.

  • what GM should do is, bring us an Holden Commodre to the rest of Europe, not only to the britains, its really fun to drive!

  • It's a copy of the Europeaan Opel Astra builded in 2004 .

  • Or Vauxhal...all that was done was Saturn badges put on, the rest is exactly the same as the European version.

  • I like this car.

  • omg just ordered my manual white xr 3dr, going to get it in a couple of days... can't wait. ooooooooooooooooooouh

  • Where is that road curving up through the arches at 3:14. It looks really cool

  • I just got mine on Saturday (5 July) really nice. Maybe they will do some production in the US

  • Saturn: Fighting the imports with.....imports? Oh well, I miss my dent proof, American built SL2!

  • for sure, bring back the dent/rust-proof panels.

  • not an import!!! Its just an Opel, which GM owns. So technically, its a domestic.

  • It's built in Belgium and shipped over. So Import is probably the most accurate description. Even the Toyota Camry built in Kentucky is more domestic (built by UAW Members).

  • That's not right. The three-door Astra ist built by Opel in Belgium, but the four-door Astra is built in Bochum, Germany

  • yeah technically but it was German designed

  • @plzplz12232 The proper term for this car is "captive import"

  • astra or rabbit?

  • astra, i'd only get the rabbit cause it can be better equipped.

  • sexy

  • Im getting this car this week!

  • yeah do you like yours? i love mine. what color did you get?
