I just did my mb room floor. I used a base coat of oil based paint and them applied quikrete etching stain. To get the look I wanted after the stain had been on about six hours I put plastic bags on my feet and just stomped and stomped....it looks good this morning. The question I have is once the stain is dry do you need to clean the floor before you put on sealer. I love your floor the color I have in very close to yours. Thanks
@lmhnelson I'm thinking I would seal right over what you have . If you have an area to test cleaning then you can try it .But if you clean the area you just did there is a good chance that you could mess it up . Do a test area in a closet or in a corner that you could hide .
hi there , my husband and I are about to buy a house. We want to pull out the concrete and stain the concrete. What is the concrete going to look like when we pull out the carpet? Will we need to rent a buffer to get the glue off the concrete? Do you know how to make the stain kinda look like marble instead of a smooth solid color? Thanks for your help.
hey buddy nicely done one thing you can do to avoid all the uneven staining is put a thin layer of polymer modified cement over the slab and also when applying the acid with the sprayer let it pool that is where you get your lights and darks stains are famous for after all if we want it one color we would go with paint right? also huge difference in sealers always go with a solvent based sealer all the white or milky one are waterborn i have a vid of a job i did on my page with the microtopping
Best results are achieved by doing a very thorough cleaning first. You can also get a great look by varying the strength of the stain and hitting different spots arounsd the room with a slightly stronger solution. Epoxy or polyaspartic sealers are the way to go.
Acid stain is a great look, but easily screwed up. Be prepared for a varied look as the video does a great job of showing. ww321 you can use the colorants from the paint store (the same colorant they use to tint paint) dilute it in water til opaque and spray on those light spots by the door to blend better. The finish (sealer) is always going to be the part where most have trouble. for better finish use epoxy/eurathane combo, it will fill in lows in concrete better giving a more even sheen.
about the only way to get an idea of color is to do a test , say in a room that you have carpet to pull back to do the test . This is the cheapest other than paint , that you can put on the floor . The different brands very in cost but the coverage is about right on the brand that I bought . you could figure cost from that . .....J.W.
I have two questions. First, are you able to choose the end color result? And about how much did you spend to acid stain it. By the way, your floors look great.
I have only done this one time . Do a search of stain suppliers they will have a list of cleaning products that you can use . One thing about it if you don't like the results , there is always carpet , tile , wood flooring , paint , ect....J.W.
I'd like to do a total bathroom like this, walls, floors, ceiling. And then I could just go in with my 2500 psi power washer and spray the whole place down. My local Walmart Supercenter has the whole floor in the building done like this. And I love it.
comparing Acid staining and painting , is like comparing wallpaper to paint . the two have completely different looks . If you like painted floors that is fine so do I but totally different then acid staining...J.W.
I was just about to ask if you couldn't put down a parquet (sp?) entryway where the spots didn't etch properly, and the teak flooring came into view. Man! How gorgeous is that? *slunk away quietly with my parquet idea*
Could oil/grease on the floor have blocked the acid etching?
I agree with you that the color came out beautifully.
Ok, now the question that really nagged at me as I was watching: Were these photographs and how did you pan across them like that? At first, I was wondering if you were using a camcorder and thought if you were, you had to have a dolly or steadicam or something. Details! lol
House / Shop warming party will be in a few months after I get some furniture . Some to buy , some to upholster , some to repair , some to refinish , some to make . Everyone will be invited even if they live to far away !...J.W.
WOW J.W.!!That turned out great!I actually prefer that to carpeting and wish I could have done that, but it seemed too complicated. Looks awesome! When's the housewarming party?!xoxo

@grayguy777- Will a floorbuffer and TSP
work instead of acid?

TSP is used to neutralize the acid and as a cleaner not part of the finish

How are you cleaning? We have stained concrete and everything streaks them. We actually have them in our entire house.

I get a little streaking to. I'm thinking of getting a small floor buffer . J.W.

Did u have to clean the concrete first? If so, what did u use? Are pet stains going to stain the final product?
LOOKS GREAT!!!

PAINTING is much much better. Damn leave a battery on the floor long enough and it stains concrete. You really like this look?
