  • What this version lacks is Pino Palidino's beautiful fretless bass playing that stood out in the Paul Young remake. This one has more Soul however.

  • Más que maravillosa

  • Although I'm a HUGE Hall & Oates song and had the "Voices" album in high school I prefer the arrangement on Paul Young's version of the song, and I'm grateful to John and Daryl for giving him the song to cover.

  • we never know if the last time we see someone will actually be the very last time...and sorry is too small a word.

    I miss you.

  • Daryl Hall, Eric Burdon, Marty Robbins. all greatly underrated voices

  • These brilliant performers ad-libbed this song and have never been able to repeat it! Therefore, what you hear is an original that will last forever. Try and sing with them and you will see how brilliant they are!

  • EVERY COUPLE RELATES TO THIS SONG. DARYL AND JOHN, YOU RULE AND ROCK MY WORLD. I HAVE SEEN YOU SO MANY TIMES IN CONCERT AND THIS IS THE ONLY SONG I WAIT FOR YOU TO DO. I LOVE YOU!!

  • This song gets me every time

  • "you can say whatever i'm a g"

  • BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG !

  • "Every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you." I've always thought those were wierd lyrics.

  • @bradh716 "Me", not "meat."

  • @xyPERSON He's joking

  • I miss you~

  • I have been a huge fan of theirs since the 70's. don't miss a concert if they come to Seattle. They are awesome

  • Hall and oates everytime you go away puts pauls version to shame

  • Finally i found this song! I heard it on The Rebound movie credit song. I hunted for a day

  • @MrZerockutube

  • “Cuando no se ama demasiado

    No se ama lo suficiente.”

"When you do not love too much,

You do not love enough. "

“A trifle consoles us, for a trifle distresses us.”

“All human evil comes from a single cause,

Man’s inability to sit still in a room.”

  • @JavierVMaldonado “All men’s miseries derive from not being able to Sit in a quiet room alone.” “All of our reasoning ends in surrender to feeling.” “As men are not able to fight against death, misery, ignorance, They have taken it into her heads, in order to be happy, Not to think of them at all.” Blaise Pascal (1623-1662) Científico, filósofo y escritor francés.
  • I like more this original version than Paul Young´s version.

    Salutes from Spain.

  • LONGEST INTRO EVER!!

  • @jjlwis

  • This is pure soul.hall and oates are coming to a city near me imma have to go

  • Is this the first demo version? Pretty cool to hear that compared to Paul Young's version. I like the instrumentation from Paul Young's track better, but dang...Daryl Hall kicks this one out of the stadium.

  • The Rebound :)

  • This has way more emotion and soul than Paul Young's version does. Also, Daryl Hall has a way better voice in my opinion!

Don't get me wrong I really love Young's version, just that this is better, in my opinion!

  • This is one of my favorite songs......Hall & Oats right on.

  • After 20+ years, this version's still the best.

  • @yeoh7yeoh No way!!--this is like the watered down"lite" (Ally McBeal) version. It sounds so empty and inconsequential. Paul Young arranger and producer took a ok, forgettable tune and made it really great and meaningful. Shows how important putting the right production is on a song!!! My 2 cents :)

  • Paul Young did this great!! But H & O's style is one of a kind.

  • Up to now I thought Paul Young did it best, but this original version is just as good if not better!

  • This song kicks so much ass, it should be assault and battery.

  • I love these moments! I never heard this before, and from H&O no less!

  • Paul Young suck compaired to daryl hall!!

  • Beautiful!!!

  • I didnt know this was a Hall & Oats tune

  • Daryl Hall was a master at finishing a song. He made a lot of songs. including this one, feel like it could on forever.

  • damn these guys got soul!

  • Amazing song .. Melt every time I hear this..

  • I had no idea they wrote this song and sang it first.

  • Truly brilliant song.Words fail as to its qualities and while paul young did a good cover of this this is truly a classic song.God how i wish music like this was made today.

  • simply awesome, real feeling, real soul coming from two white guys-pretty daamn good!

  • This version is the best! It has that 60s soul feel to it and the vocals are so heartfelt. It's so fucking moving, it's breathtaking.

  • I also hear the Paul Young version 1st, but I'm more partial to this one. It just seems to have more meaning, or more depth to it. It's the type of song you'd play if you're about to break up, or if you just hate to be without someone who makes you take a breath when you see them. Maybe I'm just a sentimental fool.

  • @LatPrince13 me too, me too, bro )))

  • @LatPrince13 i totally agree, but when i first saw your post i thought it said '...who makes you take a bath when you see them' and it made so much more sense that way...

  • you are so right on about that!!

  • Very good songwriter that Darryl Oates, but since I've heard Paul Young's version first, I'm more partial to that one. Plus the sitar just trumps everything on this song.

  • So, just so you all know, they have like 20 albums!

  • i really like this song, it always makes me think a lot.

  • I love this song, but it makes me sad cuz its true!

  • i really like this song... nice

  • Love this song.!

  • Good song... so many memories. Love it.

  • 正正正正正!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hall & Oates? Não tinha escutado essa música antes a não ser na voz de Paul Young. Que legal

  • @prestescorrea e acho que a musica foram eles que criaram ou cantaram antes do paul young!

  • is this the original by Hall and Oates? Love this guitar...reminds of Curtis Mayfield..

  • Oats is always looking like he is lurking with intent.

  • @cwolfe74 LOL!!! I love them though!

  • @cwolfe74

I knew there was something about that guy... you finally nailed it right on the head, decades later.

  • @cwolfe74 I just noticed that... he really do!

  • @cwolfe74 LOL. YEA HE DOES.

  • I like this version better than Paul Young

  • @Koroodetto me too!

  • most awesome song ever....but the guy on the right looks like a pedo. lol

  • Exelente versión!!!!....que buena melodia por favor!!!!....cuantos recuerdos!!!!

  • Adult Education rocks!!!

  • It's amazing.

  • Ok i'm just going to say something random. I love badminton.

  • @ScopeMadness Now that was FUNNY!

  • @ScopeMadness okay..... ROFL!

  • she's gone

  • Classic!!!

  • This is wonderful! I can't believe I've never heard it before.

  • @laurelinsgarden

Agree, Laurelin! These guys are two of the best ever!

  • The 96.34% of people who liked this video are hawesome.

  • Very nice. However, I miss "meat" in the chorus.

  • Absolument merveilleux !!! Un très grand groupe.. formidable.

  • Heard this off "The Rebound". Great song!

  • goddamn that is an awesome stache.

  • I love the original, but often think of Simply Red's version.

  • The Rebound, awesome track and movie!

  • so beautiful, so sweet......great singers....speechless.....

  • perfect

  • ...Love this song alots......

  • As a songwritter that to this point hasn't gone anywhere I can tell you that it would be great for someone to cover one of my songs even if they changed the arrangement.

I am sure Daryl Hall, who I think was the writer on this particular song, didn't mind it when Paul Young covered his song.

Young did a good job on his version, and both versions are great, one is not better than the other but just different.

  • Is that actually an organ or just a keyboard with an organ option?

  • This song gives me chills. <3

  • This is the Best version of this song I've ever heard! Wonder where I can download it?

  • It was Paul Young that trashed this song. Daryl is the master.

  • philcolynn obviously isn't the brightest, this is absolutely original hall & oates. what a dummy.

  • I remember one time this was a " National Anthem " noon.

  • Your killing Paul Youngs song! Shame on you and I am a big fan of yours!!

  • @philcolynn tsk, tsk... If u were really a 'big fan' you'd know that Daryl WROTE this song! It was on an early 80's album BEFORE Paul 'stole' it & made it a huge hit around '85, '86.

  • @AzureHvn how'd he steal it ? he didn't ask them ?

  • @feanor The ' ' around the word was meant to show as loose translation, or such - He took a song from a great writer AND singer, very much made it his own & killed with it. Most people think only of Paul singing this when they hear it. So, I jokingly said stole...

I'm sure he asked them, their Mgr, whoever.

  • @AzureHvn ahhh ok yea i wasn't sure, in a concert Daryl Hall jokingly says " and thank you paul young for lending us this song"

  • Yes, for all of you that have stated that this is the original, I know that know..... Thanks for bringing me into the twenty first century.... Hall & Oats never did release this song as a single...... too bad...:))

  • This is the best cover of this song have ever heard....:)) I

  • @TexasJim11 This is the original not a cover :)

  • might be the greatest song ever!

  • love all their music!!!!

  • Paul Young can't touch them :) Hall and Oates are classic...

  • I always have a problem with chicks taking my cake and brownie mix.

Every time they go away they take a box of super chocolate chunk brownie mix!

  • *lol* squizzo- that's what I always hear whenever this song is on!!! I wanbt to help with the music video for that!!!

  • Stainerrrr !!!!!

  • @ahmer1 loved the movie

  • @ahmer1 hell yea lol

  • when I was young Hall and Oates where considered Fag music How wrong were they guys know music

  • who sang the original?

  • @saky08 Dude it's Hall and Oates, Paul Young popularized this song

  • @hypernorton

oh thanks, i heard many versions but didn't know who sang the original.

  • @saky08 This one is the original; Paul Young covered it five years later.

  • @alltim7 Yes, I stand corrected. Hall & Oats never did release this as a single. I am amazed that they didn't? I seriously like this version much more than Paul Young's cover

  • @TexasJim11 By the time "Private Eyes" was ready for release, The Voices album was already on it's fourth single, so a fifth single made no sense at the time (1981). It wasn't until 1984, thanks to Thriller, that 5 singles from an album became common.

  • @cutecutedemons So funny -they made a new release each year for over 10 years! Some serious musicians!

  • I'm a big H&O fan but I like Paul Young's version better, too bad H&O didn't envision making this a pop remake in the mid-80's!

Btw, Oates reminds me a lot of one of the 20/20 reporters ( John Stossel ) from the 80's!

    Noah

  • This is very soulful!!!! Although I like Paul Young's a bit better!!! but Darryl Hall is a gifted songwriter as evidenced in the lyrics... :-)

  • I dunno who's the first to start the song, Paul Young or Hall and Oates. But I like this Hall & Oates better due to the mellow arrangement of the song which kinda matches the lyric.

  • paul young was good, but hall & oates are much better. you should hear this song sung live by the Amazing

  • Adult education...!

  • I have just had my jaw officially dropped. I pride myself on the ridiculous amount of music trivia in my head, but I had NO idea that this song was not Paul Young's. I am blown away. Blown. Away.

  • @fl0nk11 Daryl Hall was the one that wrote this song, and in my opinion he and Oates does it much better than Young.

  • @dickclarkfan1 -Daryl and John cowrote the tune.

  • The Philly, New York, Boston white soul sound is always in style ...

  • nice singing, Daryl

  • bring back the soul in soul....

  • brilliant didnt even know they had the original version

  • Great song. Emotions just boiled over cuz of recent breakup. Started to tear up at the first chorus. Damn thought i had that under wraps.

  • Paul Young is way better!!

  • there is a piece of me, not meal as you wrote dude :)

  • I like Paul Young's cover, but this is just perfect!!!! We need more good songs!!!

  • both versions are great 4 me

  • oh ooooh this one means alot

  • STAINER!!!

  • @jedccs stainer owned this tune along with kiss on ya list

  • STAINER!

  • @GivesYouHellXD

    haha. i miss stainer!!!!!!

  • この歌ええな~

  • words and music by Daryl Hall-from the 1980 RCA album VOICES.

covered by Paul Young some years later, this is a soul standard,Young's cover was pure commercial pop!!!!!!!

  • So emotional. Makes you wanna cry.

  • LOL at squizzoos post xD

  • who wrote "Everytime You Go Away" very few people get that trivia question - most think Paul Young - wrong! gotta love "its a Laugh" one of my fave H+O tunes....

  • @murfxyz People probably are only familiar with the Paul Young cover. I was. I had no idea H&Os sang this. To be honest, I think I like Paul Young's cover better. He has a deeper voice. I like it.

  • Przepieknee :)))

    Łezkii . ! .

  • this song is about the munsters

  • This is just a cover paul young did the original

  • @ieatlotsoftoast Get your fact right b4 u talked nonsense! Just google the details & u will know Daryl Hall is the songwriter of this song -- but Paul re-sing this, took it straight to #1 and a worldwide hit!

  • @ieatlotsoftoast I think that it's a bad idea of you to say such things when it aint true... Afterall it's the opposite, Paul Young's edition of the song is a cover.

The song was originally written by (Daryl) Hall from Hall and Oates.

  • haha!! love it!!

  • Maybe he's got a detachable penis that his girlfriend is borrowing when she leaves.

...You take a piece of me with you..

  • I never knew that this was the original. I only knew Paul Young's version.

    This is great though!
