@Terneyah Funny Thing is is that after the Babylonian Academies-Rava,the last Rabbi.Rabbis don't exist anymore.in sefardic coutnries thy called the learned man Hakham and in Yemen ''mori'',only soem Ashkenazim began to call their leaders ''Rabbi''when this Title is reserved fro those under the Court of deutereonomy seventeen, they fool their followers.
Its just another word to describe a master of scripture, a scholar. Im not against this, but calling another man "rabbi" instead of Rav is kinda wrong for me. Its like im bowing down to human beings, not to God only. As I said, I dont like the persona-cult around it. Look at Habad .. they began to worship their old "rabbi" ... its disgusting.
@Terneyah Rabbi is a word used for Chazal(the court wich Ezra established until it was destroyed by the romans)the rabbis wich are in the Talmud.not anything later.
When the Sages of ysrael were killed by the romans in 500 .C.E their authority ended with the babylonian curt.anything after the Tanaim is not Halacha, and it is just opinion.
Rabbinic Decrees after 500 C.E are only valid for a certain area!
Do you know what the traditional view is regarding the creation story? I"m studying religion in college and my textbook said this about Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, and Noah. “For centuries, Jews have thought of them as historical figures. Now, however, influenced by the views of scholars, many Jews view them instead as symbolic.”
Health may not always have something to do with circumcision, but there ARE certain benefits to it. I'm not saying the pros outweigh the cons or anything, but there are pros. For example, phimosis. It's a condition where a man is unable to retract his foreskin (either in part or full). Circumcision prevents such a problem from ever happening.
@rollinglibs1012 The Gaon(Genius) of Vilna(not ''Vilna of Gha'on'')considerd the zohar to eb like mishna chagiga, who's contents are not understandable, and therefore should not be studied.
his opinion is Irrelevant, btw.he is not part of the Bait din ha gadol-H'Z'L.
re rabbinic or Torah Judaism from what I gather from my friends Sefardic Judaism is much less "warped" by rabbi adulation and less susceptible to rabbinic manipulation. at least this is what they tell me. . . any comments on this?
I am sorry to say that I must strongly disagree with your statement that "litvish idealogy is virtually identical to chassidic idealogy." I will agree with you on the problems adverse effects rising from the spread of the Zohar and the spread of chassidism. Though, I take problem with this statement because I am a ba'al teshuva, originally through Chabad. I eventually left for this very reason and am now what most would consider a litvak, and I just don't see this being true at all.
Oh great now the Jew are evangelizing, first we got the Christians the NT is the perfect and last word of God. Then we had the Muslims saying the Quran is the perfect and last word of God. And now we have the Jews, the Torah this and Torah that, the Quran this and the Quran that, the NT this and the NT that. Don't you people ever get tired of this? Stop it. God did not speak to the Jews, nor was Jesus God, Prophet, Messiah or born of a virgin. And for Mrs. Muhammad, nothing but a liar. See, easy
Rabbi Meza, I have to agree with KingOystar. Karaites may be splinter group, but quite frankly they are still Jewish. Also, as a practical matter, they are way more frum than Reform or Conservative.
I think this is a good video in general and I would agree that the Karites are a splinter group but I would hesitate greatly to include modern xtianity with the splinter sects.
@KingOystar His point was that BOTH are sects that originated as a result of mainstream Torah-Judaism loosing sight of fundamental principles, particularly the centrality of the Torah of Moses and the legislative authority which is strictly limited to the Beth Din ha-Gadol of 71 judges.
You guys need to stop with the circumcision, especially on infants who aren't given the opportunity to decide for themselves. I think this would do a lot to fix the evident mass psychological disorder of Israel and the Zionists who seem like deranged warmongers. Of course it would take 40 years for the results of this so we're doomed and since we are dealing with irrational people you can't convince them that it is wrong to mutilate babies whose brains are rapidly developing. We're doomed.
The only thing that dooms you is your narrow mind, and you can change that by finding out the truth. But with truth comes responsibility. Are you ready for that? Your opinion about circumcision is your dick doing the thinking, and that is precisely why Jews circumcise themselves: so that the member which reproduces life is subject to boundaries.
You do know that circumcision is done for non-religious reasons too, and that a sizable amount of the U.S. male population have been circumcised at birth for simply health or medical reasons, right? There are a lot of medical problems associated with keeping the foreskin there (even if they aren't particularly common).
@th3warr1or Yes the American male psyche is quite damaged as well as the Israelis... in fact everywhere it is practiced there is more widespread societal and government violence... Large parts of muslim Africa, Israel, and the USA mutilate and are violent societies, Northern Europe does not and they are orderly and peaceful. It has a spartacist, 'macho' ritual aspect- but most (stupid idiot) people mutilate their babies because of tradition. Health has nothing to do with it.
Also, aside from the basic issue of even understanding the Zohar, which I do not claim to be able to do, I fail to see how it can be binding upon any Jew, since it was a book written by a Rabbi, and not a matter of Torah commandments per se. I see no impact on any commandments, either ethical or ritual (temple service, for example).
I find your statement about Zohar, a book from the 13th century which is claimed to be from Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, and whose contents are disputed as authentic by some famous rabbis, as a major reinterpretation of the commandments of the Torah as a puzzling announcement. Have you read the entire Zohar or studied it with someone? What little I have read of it seems to be in the language of metaphor, so for all practical purposes, it seems to me that the Zohar is not, in fact, a super-commentary
I got a question, i have read the Torah a couple of times, and i have found out that all the commandments are for the people of Israel along , so I am confuse , does God care about us, the non-Israelite ???Should i follow the ten commandments????I am even wonder if God even care about if i believe in Him or not ???? all this questions come from a humble guy that is seeking the truth, and that is a little frustrated after reading the Torah.
I can respect your work without fully agreeing with it.I also respect you as a person who is committed to a purpose and Torah. What I do agree with is the the Written Torah is the foundation of all other writings. All other writings MUST be filtered through shebictav.
That´s not totaly right, Shas is NOT just a commentary, Shas is the oral Torah and regarded even higher than the written Torah. Since many non-jews accept the Bible as sacred, the Oral Torah is the main thing that distinguishes between Judaism and makes it unique. The Oral Torah is therefore the basis of G-ds covenant with Israel. Read Gittin 60b. It is even MORE dear to G-d than the Written Torah.
@kanaiboded This just proves the Point, that this is also commentary bec its not confirmed with Torah shebictav. To the point that no Rishon ever codified this as binding, and according to the Rambam it would fall under Agadatah...
@kanaiboded And although the rishonim sometimes use the term Oral Law for both Rabbinic and Halacha l'moshe m'sinai, around 95% of what contained in Shas is Rabbinic Law and not Oral Law from Sinai.. In other words just the decrees of the Beit Din Hagadol and not on a holier level that the written law ...
Who is your God. Sorry God - written with small letters. This is not the God of the Jews or Christians. It is a product of your big ego.
