Seriously... First, no oil is not going to stay at its current prices. We are running out of the cheap oil, but there is still oil on this planet, its just harder to refine and will cost more. Secondly we do need alternative fuels if we want to be an interstellar species. Cameron could care less if the average American has to pay more for fuel, utilities, and food. @vastmandana1 and if you want to talk about slowing down, look at how the restrictions on "carbon" output would effect production. More production = more business activity = more jobs. With this, the rest of the world is actually catching up. I think you sir have it backwards.

@mikester9er Sustainability is the goal... not growth, which is impossible on a finite planet. Quality of life yes... endless growth is like a cancer and we have reached "terminal". Things must and will change...whether you want to live in a fantasy world or not. Renewables are sustainable. Fossile fuels are terminal to life as we know it.
