Uh, why would they choose the 1900's? That's when electronics met their peak. They don't believe in using electricity and electronics didn't really start booming until Edision made the incandescent light bulb in the late 1800's. I'm from Ohio, Pennsy Dutch, and had the joy of having "plain" relatives. I live in France now to be back closer to my roots in Alsace, Switzerland & Germany. The Baumgardner family farm museum was open until recently in Ohio and had not changed in so long, it was educational. if you could remove the religious element, the Amish lifestyle is probably best for long term global sustainability. Less waste, less pollution, less demand on natural resources, while providing strength/stability in communities.

What I find interesting in Religion is in the past how they were treated by people that didn't take the time to know them. You have the Amish, LDS, Jews, Catholics and Jesus himself. So many people have been hurt or even killed for their believes. I was able to spend a day with the Amish and it was a great experience for me.
Do you think anyone would CHOOSE to live a life like this if they had been brought up in modern day American society, which is quite possibly the antithesis of everything the Amish stand for. I'm from Ohio, Pennsy Dutch, and had the joy of having "plain" relatives. I live in France now to be back closer to my roots in Alsace, Switzerland & Germany. The Baumgardner family farm museum was open until recently in Ohio and had not changed in so long, it was educational. Much of our land was seized from us by the govt 100 years ago, we had to go to cities & were modernized & impoverished. I guess I gave the land back to the First People. Uprated and shared.

What I find interesting in Religion is in the past how they were treated by people that didn't take the time to know them. You have the Amish, LDS, Jews, Catholics and Jesus himself. So many people have been hurt or even killed for their believes. I was able to spend a day with the Amish and it was a great experience for me.

What about being able to send information across the distance of the world in a matter of seconds, traveling at speeds of over 100 miles per hour often, putting humans on the moon, seeing distant galaxies further revealing God's glory.
