@shill700 No, Prince Philip is Regimental Colonel of The Grenadier Guards and only appears at the Colonel's Review when his regiment troop their colour as in 2010. He always appears on the QBP with the Queen each year.
@shill700 It is the Regimental Colonel of the regiment trooping their colour who takes the salute at The Colonel's Review. In 2009 it was Major General Sir Sebastian Roberts, Irish Guards..
going off horseguards the bands used to close up files to get through to the mall and the corps of drums used to form double ranks as they could not close up enough..do they still do this with the smaller numbers of drums/pipes that we usually see nowadays..?....it appears not from what i can see..marty
1) why are the drum majors wearing tunics and not their actual dress and 2) could someone explain the order (major-general's review, colonel's review) how does it work?
1) Drum Majors wear the State Dress only when the Sovereign is on Parade, on the principal Royal Birthdays and Anniversaries and on ceremonies on which a member of the Royal Family is present. For the rehearsals, there are no Royals present, so the Drum Majors wear their normal tunics.
2) The two major rehearsals prior to the Queen's Birthday parade are called, The Colonel's Review and The Major General's Review and take place on the preceding two Saturdays (MGR first then CR)
That was great! I enjoyed it very much! Lucky you to live in London and be able to watch, and hear, live, such a great parade and music! I recorded the whole thing in my cassette recorder with some other military marches so that can listen to it
thanks for this - is one of the reviews named "Prince Philip's' procession?
