A thought just occurs to me, in that when one looks at David Beckham he has stolen the numbered identity of 2 of the greatest sportsmen ever, in the number 7 that Best made famous, and the number 23 that Michael Jordan made famous, but then it has often been said that the highest form of flattery is imitation. if Best was born at the same time as the players today, he wouldn't even be in the premiership. not because of hjs ability, but because he wouldn;t have the attitude to professionalism that players are forced to have nowadays. He'd probs be a football coach teaching children or something. but yes, for natural talent he is the greatest, but equal to messi (currently the best and improving), maradona, garincha (who is incredibly underated) and of course zidane. those are the greatest players ever.

@seankinsellasean i have to disagree with you now a days players have many facilities like they have specially designed studs,ball is more lighter and the pitches are more greener and better then those days defenders those days where very physical as compared to today's defenders (because of the changes in rules) ...all in all if ronaldo or messi played during that era then there was a huge possibility that they both would have ended their carriers at an early stage

@fevin21391 Thats a fair point, but i think players today are like machines they are massive! and extreamly fit and also very professional hardly aloud any alcohol and only the right food. Also the training is alot more advanced these days best was naturally talanated but so are a lot of players in todays game that dont have the right mental attitude such as players like queresma,robinho,adriano ect i guess we will never know..

I have also studied much of his career just because I admire what he did as a player. So far no Manc has come close to what he did. It's just people who don't bother to look who think the modern generation players are just so much better.

If you were to compile a top ten players list, very few modern players would get a look in. Maybe only Zidane, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo (the proper one) and Messi. And out of those players I think the only one I'd have in my top ten would be Zidane.

@alwayswinit4real The game was a lot more harder in those days you really can't say a player like Zidane would've handled the brutal weather & tackles back in them days but i think true players had a lot more respect for the ref in these days whenever they took a bone crunching tackle or was limping they wouldn't complain they'd just carry on with the game and smiling Best is better than Maradona he just doesn't get enough recognition he's more two footed , harder, not a diver, better header.
