• This was the first recorded song I ever remember hearing. It was on my mom's eight-track on a shelf between the living room and the kitchen. I was, maybe, five years old. And at that moment, I knew what it was all about. My love of music never waned in its intensity. It was Ray Charles then as it will always be.

  • best singer in the world i listen to him every day and everynight

  • I'm 15 years old, and like my dad and my granpa' i love RAY.

  • @ClaPazzini me too!

  • @ClaPazzini Oh yeah? Well I'm a fetus and I'm mesmerized by RAY!

  • My dad and mom loved it and instilled it in us kids as well. No matter the proper dance assigned to this, I know my arms, fingers, and head always move and bob when it comes on. People driving by or sitting in traffic get an eyeful and think I'm looney until I roll down the window and they hear the song playing. I am 100% forgiven and have even had people shout out 'what station??'

  • wow miss you ray! rip!

  • MASTER!!!

  • Ray Charles is the only musician I knew that our mothers and fathers liked and we as young folks loved equally. Everything he ever did was fabulous and this is definitely my favorite with that little cha-cha beat. Go baby. I love me some Ray Charles. When he'd come to the Regal theater in Chicago, the women (including my mother) would go crazy. He was a blind man with more game than any one I ever saw lol :D Thanks!

  • I love this song..it fits in the world today especially with these crazy young girls..WHY LEAD ME THROUGH A LIFE MISERY WHEN THEY DONT CARE A SHIT ABOUT ME..DAMMIT UNCHAIN MY HEART..!!!

  • what is that rhythm? Rhumba?

  • @kristinlee It certainly sounds almost rhumba-esque, doesn't it?

I think it's actually something like merengue, but I'm not sure. It's 100% pure Ray Charles, though. ;)

  • @kristinlee yeah rhumba;)

  • @kristinlee salsa

  • @kristinlee It' MAMBO. :)

  • @ArwenCarina And it's similar to SALSA someway.

  • Ray is the King!

  • thats not bossa nova...

  • @SlaniaDK I know - it's more a reference to an enthusiastic shout by Eddie Haskel once upon a time.....

  • @SwingMan1937 @SlaniaDK Not bossa nova, but pretty close!

  • @ernjorge ...sounds a little like mambo cha-cha...but then that's a Chicago phrase lol. It's jumping though and when I hear it I do the mambo.....it's so cool and rhythmic! :D

  • after watching a movie about ray charles I loved this music...

  • @TheFaZum Me too :)

  • Outstanding, what a voice...

  • A #1 hit for Ray Charles on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 87th R&B song of the Rock Era. It was also the first #1 R&B song of 1962. Not a bad way to begin the new year.

  • MAESTRISIMOOOOOOOOO!

  • You got to LOVE that brass section!

  • he was an extraordinery person!his was everything and nothing in same time!i believe that he can see more important things than others!and he's been a lot of bad things....thank him for beening him.......

  • when Ray came out, I fell in love with the song. still love it. He could do R&B, pop, Country and work it well. RIP Ray.RIP.

  • @Savvynlady Pretty tough not to fall for this one upon first listening - that's the way it was for me, anyways. ;)

If you're up to hearing Ray at age 19 fresh out of the McSon Trio for his first solo record, I've got "Th' Ego Song" by Ray backed with a 7 piece on a 'Swing Time' label 78 from 1950 here:

    /watch?v=M2JQnSQPHNU

Ray's got his Nat King Cole hat on there & it sounds like an embryo of what would later become "Hallelujiah, I Love Her So" 6 years before the fact. :)

  • @Savvynlady RIP RETURN IF POSSIBLE!

  • only 43,388 views.....ARE YOU SHITTING ME?!?!?!

  • @11193dom Shoot, it's only been up since October. ;)

  • @11193dom it went up two thousand in two days

  • @11193dom the views are growing. i will increase it by about 50 tonight.

  • wooooooooooooooooooooow¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • There´s no way you don´t like it. What a icredible voice and the instruments are great too.

  • This is the genious of Ray Charles. It's amazing that a blind man can come up with music as great as this!

  • @trollmonger2 More amazing, a moron that can 'write'. None are so blind

as those who refuse to see. Now go home and get your shades, cane

    & dog!!!

  • beautiful man. GOD's work

  • "pimp" lol

  • That's girls from the wonderful Cookies on backing vocals

  • What a voice!!!

  • This is I N C R E D I B L E

  • it's not bossa, it's a latin groove like merengue

  • RIP RAY. THAT MAN WAS CLASSICAL BUT A PIMP

  • @KiaraRoxATT246 what means pimp ?

  • @spirosparadise i mean he cheated on his wife and has grandchildren children from over 6 different fams

  • @spirosparadise a pimp is a man who manages prostitutes.

but in a slang context, it can mean a man who has sex with a lot of women.

  • @AgentCarter I am going to appoint you, the offical translator

for the human beings. You can explain to humans, the slang.

  • @fntime not sure what gives you the authority to do so, but i accept the position

  • pure brilliance

  • we play it too in our brass band!!!

  • I would like to see also the essence of this song but the version of the movie, it's great that piece of film

  • mmm ray charles true classic.

  • i luv dis soong been tryna find it

  • UNCHAIN MY HEART I NEED TO LIVE TOO.

  • ;) RAY

  • best of

  • This arrangements with a "sabroson" flavour are very very triggering. The back lines of the quartet of voices are very powerful. I will carry on playing, definitelly. Thanks Mark.

  • Lots of Ray's stuff gets blocked from YT over supposed copyright issues.

I love it when ones of his gems is actually posted. Thanks so much.

  • A bonofide classic! Thanks for posting, Mark. Sounds great!

  • Great vid, SwingMan! Just want to let u know the sax solo is different on the 45 rpm version of the song. This song has always been a long time fave. Thanx for the post.

  • Awesome!

  • Just wonderful!

  • A+

    Thanks, Mark
