Superb music. A superb film - and got the spirit of the times absolutely nailed. And a wealth of talent across the board. And hands up all those who would have thought that Harold was right... And that's a great pic up there of Hoskins from the unbearable last moments of the film.

Get Carter was let down by one person in my book - Michael Caine. Christ, how anyone can consider this bloke a good actor leaves me cold.

Hoskins, especially playing the role of a gangster, is totally believable. Caine meanwhile, is always 'boredom personified' in my view.

If the US film industry ever manages to make a film of this quality, then the age of miracles will truly have arrived. Every aspect of this film is spot on - the characters are realistic human beings, the plot makes sense, it doesn't need CGI... I could go on and on. A cinematic masterpiece.

The best british gangster film ever made.To think they couldnt find a distributor,and it was going to be cut,sold to american tv,and dubbed.The dubbing caused bob hoskins to slap an injunction on it,saying it took away his performance(a petition of equity members was signed in favour of this,i believe)Then george harrison's handmade films bought it for£600,000 and distributed it.I first saw it,prob in the mid 80s in my teens,its in my top ten films of all time.

@zvictorone the IRA plot involvement,only comes to light in the 2nd half of the film,Hoskins finds out,when we do.Hoskins character doesnt fully appreciate what hes dealing with,and handles it the wrong way.They outwit him,and kidnap him at the end of the film.

One of the greatest films ever with an unforgettable soundtrack, when this song first kicks in you know your watching something special. Very special. The films been dubbed the British Scarface but its so much more than that.

The final scene is a thousand times more powerful and the acting is extraordinary.
