@SesamaLho Minimums is the callout for the point at which if they were in IMC (cloud/fog/mist) they would have to make the decision if to abort the approach or continue to land. It varies between airport and approach types, ILS will generally get you down to 200/300 feet for your basic Cat1, anywhere down to no minimums which is Cat3B where it is completely flown by the autopilot. Your NDB/VOR approaches which are different have minimums that are usually more in the 500/800+ feet range.
You're supposed to disengage autopilot after touchdown. If it's a 747 it deff has auto-flare. Once you land you usually disengage, to then initiate reverse thrust. And since they took off again. they kinda HAD TO disengage cuz plane was in APPRCH mode.
This is a normal check ride (training flight). If they had been to high they would have aborted the approach. They are both captains. The reason why the pilot to the right handles the throttles is for the flying pilot to focus on flying the bird. It is always (nearly) the pilot on the left that is the pilot in command.
first of all it's real this movie? How they can land and take off on the same runway which doesn't look so long! Then you can check at 0:53 that the left one is captain, and at 1:18 that the right one is novice but at the hand for thrust the right one appear to be superior. Who know...
this sound of the auto pilot disengage , because it was an auto land landing and the pilot should disengage the autopilot as soon as the airplane touch down.
ITS NOT(the sound tells them they landed. i also work as a pilot for singapore airlines boeing 777. )
Man i may be kinda young to talk about this, but ive always dreamed about being an SIA plane pilot when I grow up.Though the stress, pilots are respected,highly-regarded and highly paid. They are also wowed by those"gossiping" ladies
Cont'd....which is what baffles me about the Airbus disaster in Sao Paulo. Their approach speed was abnormally high, i saw the surveillance videos. I would even dare to say they didn't even select flaps 3 cause at that speed the flaps would have gotten ripped right out the trailing edges. Something is terribly amiss for pilots that supposedly had 15k hours under their belts but that said it all points to terrible CRM and human error.
A 744 doesn't need "testing" as such. They are conducting a line check and the guy on the right acting as the FO is a check pilot. They also conducted a Cat II or III approach since the mcp alarm didn't go off till after the land 3 prompt & touchdown so this guy was obviously getting his 744 ticket. I just hope i don't need grey hair for it when my time comes.
Whats a MCP alarm, and are line checks a very formal affair or is it just a case of,"Do what you have been doing for the last umpteen years and lets go for a beer" if you get my meaning.
MCP=Mode Control Panel disengage alarm-6 tone sequence followed by auto throttle logic during reconfiguration from landing to go around mode. Line checks are very formal.
Cheers. We all have bad days and good days,if you have a bad line check, can you actually get relieved of flying duties(Sacked)or does the Airline address the relevant issues with a little extra down the line training?
No worries mate - Yes we all do...but if you fail a line check it's more than likely you won't get the job at all. Line checks may be formal but they're also very redundant and there's a lengthy training process behind. The check pilot is not gonna fail engines or do anything dangerous in a final assessment. You already did all abnormal procedures in simulators and mastered them to get you here, flying the real thing, the heavy metal.
No,what i meant was,say an already well established Pilot with B.A. or Easyjet does a bad six monthly line check,is he out of a job? And also, what would constitute a bad line check,I mean, your all professionals, doing the job for years, what could you possibly do wrong?
What you're asking is very airline specific and depends on many factors - things like seniority and experience weigh in most of all. If you're a noob and you fail a line check your chances of getting sacked certainly increase considerably. That said regardless of experience you can always make mistakes and we're all human, that's what Biennial Flight Reviews [BFR's] are for.

Automatic landing during practise traffic patterns. Instructor is sitting right (also a captain). Seeing automatic landings during practise approaches is rare. simply a waste of 'manual time'. Nice vid.
How do you think pilots have been landing jets since the 60's? With a computer? and what happens if the auto-pilot malfunctions? By the way not all runways have the capability for auto-landing, so the boys do it manually, like they've been doing for thousands of years!

you'r right man well after so many years of his uncle flying I would like to see a manual landing please post any video of you'r uncle in manual app!!
Yes of course he will have to. I was smiling to myself as I read that WMKJ has a short runway. What I meant was that if they have better apron facilities they will kick CHangi`s b*tt! Been to that airport so many many times. See the Sultan`s private hangar as well!
That is not really a short runway. Johor`s runway is a really long one something in the neighbourhood of 11000 feet so I would not call that short. My dad has also done a couple of touch and gos there when he was doing his first few flights on the B747. Also the landing in the video was an autoland so the credit should be given to the aircraft`s computer on that one too!

Also the landing in the video was an autoland so the credit should be given to the aircraft`s computer on that one too!

well men you're right about the autoland but I'm shure his uncle will do it all manually
