You must be joking? Continental Airlines, soon to be UAL.... yuck!!, flies a fleet of 777-200ER's all powered by the GE90. Great video. Thanks for sharing!
@av8rdav The new B787 spools the wheels up to the same landing speed using electric motors. Its certainly cheaper to spool up the tires as the owner of the aircraft.
how awesome is that! beautiful... i think of all the vids i have seen on youtube this i will remember for a long time to come strangely!... subtle yet lasting... THANK YOU for posting...
@hitdrumhard An electric motor to pre-spin one axis of that size and weight to half the planes speed would be really heavy and expensive. Plus, you'd need another actuator to engage and disengage the motor to the axis, so you wouldn't have an extra torque to win. Imagine the cost, size and weight of 6 motors. Much cheaper changing the tires once in a while.
@Pedrovra How about if each wheel would have blades or similar, so the bypassing fast air would pre-spin each tire? It might not add that much weight.
uhh no, GE90's are lartger then RR and PW varients, and the GE90 engines are more rounded (if you look closely at the RR and PW, they have a slightly flat bottom edge) and the GE90's have a larger diameter
Well, at recording location you're fairly close to the aircraft, but the main thing comes from the cam; it crops a whole lot of the frame during hi speed movie recording; the higher the framerate, the more it crops off. Hard time panning at such a zoomratio..
Hands down... Undisputed... Best video on Youtube. Period. (Slams fist down on table.) Very nice work. I've always wanted to see this view of an airplane landing.
no they dont the the 772,ER and 773 all have the same gear but the 772LR,LRF,773ER there gears are different the lr and LRF used the same gear and the 773ER uses a different set of gears if u google it u can tell the difference not being a dick but yeah ur wrong
ok the 777 is equipped with ge90 engines all varients and u can tell that the aircraft was either a 777-200,200ER or 777-300 cause of the landing geat the 777-300ER 777-200LR and LRF has a different landing gear and that was amazing man very nice and i notice that he landed on his right gear first was it windy that day or something
@cinkmoot Kenya Airways. Stupid niggers, no wonder we don't let them fly into the USA. It's okay if they kill themselves off but don't crash into our houses.
Nice vid. Thanks for uploading.

Why don't they spin up the wheels before touch-down to avoid uneven tyre wear?!
4crevis 6 months ago
@4crevis Cost of system and weight of same plus maintenance make it cheaper to buy tires.

Are there planes in which landing gear wheels are rotated to mach approach speed during the landing in order to extend wear and tear period
of tires?

They should use little electric motors to pre-spin the wheels to match ground speed. leave less rubber on the landing strip.
hitdrumhard 1 year ago
@hitdrumhard Excellent idea. And save on tires too. Maybe have vanes connected to the brake discs to pre-spin them.

The 200 ER has the option of GE engines as well as PW and RR. GR90-90 series... the 300ER/200LR uses GE90-110B or 115B's

all 777 (-200 -200ER -300 -200LR -300ER) models have an option for GE engines, the 777-200LR and 777-300ER only option is the GE90-115B/110B

if its GE 90, then its B773ER.
cinkmoot 3 years ago
The engine shot is taken from a JAL B773ER. However, the KLM B772ER (gear touchdown shot) is also equipped with the GE90.
The only B772 regular visitor to AMS with other engines is Kenia Airlines KQ (noticeable smaller diameter)
bagagerat 3 years ago
I was born in Kenya and actually flew one of those B772ER to Schiphol from Nairobi. Kenya Airways.
I've never seen a clean landing gear on the B777...
If you live around Schiphol, why not take a video of one of those Kenya Airways since they haven't been cleared to fly to the states

Good for you ;-)
I just might catch one of them 772's one day, but I don't go spotting really often.
