I adore the chromatic counterpoint in this piece, so much. It reminds me of the atonal soundtrack for the Twilight Zone and various other 50-60's TV soundtracks. Very inspirational.
i'm surprised he wasn't more perverted, not necessarily sexually, with the whole "for orchestra" thing. I assume that its suggested, but i'm not quite sure. Sometimes I wish Zappa fans weren't so "fanzine"...i'm hoping they're fescitious.
@ShazamzSkip666 Jerry Fielding? That's the guy that wrote the music for Hogans Hero's! And also McHale's Navy, Run, Buddy, Run, He & She and The Bionic Woman.
I wish we could see some more depth to music today, but that is what we get with Those Record Company Pricks that Frank was so against, that he made the song Tinsel Town Rebellion. His genius is still too big for rock music. 100 years ahead of his time and yet, he still fit in.
I understand that this was meant to be a compliment..the thing if it is, that what we are listening to here is what he was truely about. The instrumentation was different that's all. Go listen to 200 Motels and you're know what I mean.
It is, and though the LSO albums are full of mistakes, almost everything on them is so far exclusive to those albums, in terms of official releases that is.
Well, that was slow. I guess the fast parts were just too difficult for the Budapest Symphony Orchestra to Handel. It's sort of interesting, slow like that - but, after listening to this, my brain needed to hear it a real-speed.
The original version of this is on the album Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch. The timing on that version is 2:44. Compared to the 4:19 of this performance. The fast parts on the album are so fast and tight - it'll make your head spin.
That's the tempo specified by Zappa on the LSO vol 1 album. The version on the 'Drowning Witch' album isn't the original version. The tune first appeared as part of 200 motels but isn't on the official album. It can be heard on an old 200 motels bootleg, conducted by Zubin Metha. There's also a version performed by the 78 band. The 78 band version also has lyrics.

nice version. Does anyone know who did the orchestration?
Enie009 1 year ago
@Enie009 Zappa did it, of course... this version was originally recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1983.

It's nice to hear a different performance than the one from the LSO. You notice different sounds and textures... +1

Well, it's more correct to say that it is incredible that a classical composer could be a rock music legend.

Could a alternative be both LSO and TYS?

`rock musician'? Dude music is music who the hell cares for labels except for people that need it to hold down their version of reality!
