  • Excellent - LOVE LOVE LOVE EAL! BRING IT BACK!

  • Waaooo nice job ... This is another great classic and nostalgic video from a wonderful era in aviation. And I love the L-1011 and its resemblance with the DC-10. Thanks for sharing this great piece of history.

  • Quite simply magnificent footage!!!

I admire Craig's shooting style, this is a style I myself have adopted for shooting at Heathrow- - It's footage like this that Youtube was invented for!!!

  • The 1:144 L-1011 kits just don't capture that dolphin nose, do they? I knew that must have been late 80's-early 90's as the UPS DC-8 in the background had the new GE/SNECMA engines on it. A pity Rolls Royce went on strike, delaying L-1011 orders, and giving the DC-10 a leg up. The L-1011 was a decade ahead of it's time, too.

  • @Allegheny580 A generation ahead is more like it.

  • @RyanBomar Awesome mate. I live in the UK and never saw Eastern much *obviously*, but i love the videos and Eastern was probably my fave colour scheme bar PSA's. Keep em' coming Ryan! :D

  • Beautiful video RyanBomar. I never saw an Airbus in Eastern colors, neither a L-1011 in bare metal with Eastern scheme stripes.

  • Why or how did the DC-10, with all it's failures and problems with PR, manage to completely defeat the L1011. Was the L1011 that bad, and the DC10 that good. Dc10 had an terrible problems, doors flying off, etc but it still managed to defeat the l1011

  • @mistersmith6000 I think the L-1011 underperformed, it didn't meet it's original specifications.

  • @mistersmith6000 Lockheed got screwed over by Rolls Royce going near bankrupt, and having strikes, which delayed development and delivery of the RB211's. Its a pity of what a setback this was for Lockheed.

  • I think Eastern and American at that time, had some sharp looking aircraft! Beautiful silver, and blue cheatlines!

  • wow! My dad used to work for Eastern. Was based in SFO.

  • Thank you so much Ryan! Makes my heart leap!

  • I watched another vid of a guy walking down the S duct of the #2 engine of a L1011. You would not believe how large it is! A full grown man walking upright with a few feet to spare over his head. Incredible! My favorite other than the 747. Great video!

  • Ahhh the good ol' days of Eastern Air.

  • I used to see these babies at DFW for ATA when I was 12 (this was around 9/11). They parked RIGHT next to they access freeway that connected the terminals. That, and Air France A310s.

  • My father Frank "Tex" Owens flew the inaugural L-1011 for EAL. He also flew the A300. He was with them to the end. He was based in MIA. Found out he lost his job on the news. We all loved EAL, but Frank Lorenzo left a bad taste in our mouth the way he ran the Airline into the ground.

  • Ryan, do you know the date of when this was shot? My granddaddy flew the A300 for Eastern and went into LAX all the time.

  • @bevans0529, it was taken from a few different videos in 1990.

  • @bevans0529 Bevans I can tell you I flew an EAL A300 out of LAX early AM departure on a Saturday Jan 30th 1988 (like 9AM) and it was going to ATL. Great flight and I think there was less than 15 pax on board! Was he the pilot?

  • love the Eastern livery!

  • My father flew the L-1011 out of NYC all through the 70's and 80's, 757 also I believe. Cool video. I flew in the cockpit with him on a number of trips in the jump seat. We could see Houston 500 miles away on a clear evening or so I was told.

  • I flew on an Eastern l-1011 back in 1988. Miami to Lima, Peru. Loved it! Thanks for the video!

  • The Wings of Man!

  • I got to fly on several EA L1011s, damn nice planes, wonder why none are in the air any more?

  • @loaferguy73, one reason for that was the Rolls-Royce RB211 engines that powered it.

  • Pure gold! The TriStar is such a beautiful aircraft — shame there are hardly any left flying...

  • @NIGHTWHMAN I sure miss Eastern,I was with them for 21 years.

  • Ryan,Thanks for this great posting,I worked at EA for 21 years part of that time was at LAX.

  • I remember when my sister was in the military late 1970's she would fly Eastern a lot when she would come home by way of Atlanta. I

  • what airport was that please?

  • @CAY017Aharon, LAX

  • @CAY017Aharon Thanks!! I enjoy all your videos showing great educational value of historic jet airline planes!!!

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks sooo much. I do so miss EAL!!!!

  • I miss the L1011

  • Great video!

  • What a compilation !!

  • Brings back memories of flying out of Knoxville, Tennessee.

  • EXCELLENT, nothing beats the sounds that the Tristar 1/100 makes! Especially as they apply full power with that deep moo sound and it transitions over to that buzz saw sound!
