Hey there. The song is called "Far From Over" by Frank Stallone. This is a special version where they edited out all the vocals, and spliced together the rest of the song, pretty successfully, I might add.
This was the best Starrcade in my opinion. '88 was really good too, but parts of it were just really cheesy...This still had the atmosphere that really made it believable and a lot of fun to watch.
Still to this day, there are 2 matches that I regrettfully tried, but failed to see live. That's Hulk Hogan v.s. The Iron Sheik on a Monday Night"@ MSG, and Starrcade 85 in the Greensboro Coliseum.
NWA was FAR SUPERIOR 2 the wwf/wwe. But they couldn't sell out the Garden. Their venues were 2 small. And u could see it back then. The wave of top NWA talent moving to the "Big Leagues" of WWF.wrestling lost me yrs ago. l Love me sum rasslin.
The first Supercard that was held in more than one location. (2) Vince followed up Wrestlemania 2 with 3 locations. He always tried to upstage the NWA and Jim Crockett with their own ideas.
@djbapc4 It may have been a rip off, but it worked for him. He got over every where he worked with it. Even in the Crocket promotions. Only reason his push got pulled was because he had too many drug issues that he couldn't handle.
@NWA1985WCCW I have to record Raw and Smackdown and Impact, turn the sound down (well not so much for Impact on the sound) and then fast forward to simply watch the matches and avoid the junk.
Been a while since I've seen your name detchuck & again I agree with you. Taylor was great & he had a good following then. Hell, all JCP(& Dusty) did was let Landell walk around for 3wks then drop it to to the Dream, so he & Tully could fight over another strap.
Many feel that Starrcade 87 was the beginning of the end for Jim Crockett Promotions. The event was originally slated for Greensboro, NC but the company decided to move it to Chicago. It was the first in a long line of bad moves that led to the Crockett family selling the company to Ted Turner.
djgreg1200,,.You make a good point. Wasn't that also around the time that JCP entered the New York Market for the first time (i think there was a card in NYC the night before Starrcade, but i could be wrong). I agree they would have been better served staying primarily in the south.
It was a Thanksgiving night to remember, that's for sure. And what a bloodbath; so many folks were busted open that I think Omni ushers were giving out razors to the fans on their way to the seats.
From a in-ring standpoint, there aren't too many major cards you can find that was better than this one.
Greater than Starrcade 83? I don't know young jedi ... and let's not forget the NWA's Night of Champions n 1984 at the Meadowlands Arena n North Jersey, that was a card with supreme talent & excellent matches. The sad thing was that there was torrential rain that night & not as many fans showed-up 4 the event. IMO the 1st 3 Starrcade's were the jewels, 83, 84 & 85, Jim Crockett promotions at it's very best. Sad we'll never see such intelligent wrestling like that ever again.
alcord...I didnt mean starrcade 85 was the best...just that starrcade itself was the best event(s) ever. Im partial to 83 for flair regaining the title and piper/valentine but 85 was groundbreaking for the I quit match. and for the record...I'm an old fart
the I queit match was the best because it was the first in only one ever held in a cage should have more I quiet matches in a cage that feud was one of the best ever vince should study that one if he wants the wwe to be successful because it is going down hill since he bought wcw and tna is still too young to challange him!!!
exactly. you would think vince's storyline team would watch some of these old classic matches, especially since they have a whole library full of them now. i almost think that vince thinks the average fan these days are stupid(and he may be right).because some of the stories are ridiculous and the feuds are pathetic.
well first the average fan of today is stupid, when was the last time there was a turn that surpised us? And say what you want on vince he did not try to bring back the NWO for a third time like TNA is doing.
@MagicKirin I don't know if you can say that. Technically DX was a carbon copy of the NWO in 1997. Then they had the WCW invasion which was a watered down NWO. Then you had the awful, awful legit NWO return in 2002. That's to say nothing of the brief flirtation the WWF had with the NWA angle in 1997 where, for a while, they had legitimate ideas at turning that into an NWO style angle.
@MagicKirin It was decent, but I never at all thought Vince was gonna completely push that whole takeover thing. It also didn't help that Hall would eventually go back to drinking, and that Nash would eventually tear a body part
glad to see these highlights again since the wwe relased the starrcade dvd and it had the best matchs one of the one I condered to be one of the best matches was 1985 nwa world tag team title match between Ivan and nikita koloff vs the rock and roll express there 3rd match why was that match not on there if anyone has that whole match put it on youtube would love to see it again I was about 6 or 7 at the time I rember it vegulay.

Buddy Landell wanted to be the Natcha Boy so bad. What a rip-off.

Yeah, but one has to wonder, was this a rib from Dusty to Flair?

@djbapc4. This is true. Landell got fired, literally, the day before he was to win the belt.

If he could have gotten his act together, just imagine what he could have done. The stuff he did in Memphis with Bill Dundee was off the charts.

are you serious the guy was so limited in the ring and his promos sucked?

you are absolutely right - old school rocks !!!!!!

Amen. RAW, although it has its qualities-much more so in the late 90's-can not even compete with Starrcade. This IS wrestling.

The NWO always had the management of the company's back. so unlike DX even though HHH was son in law Vince did not come in say I am backig HHH.
I forget about the WWE NWO angle because it was so short and unmemorable
