one of the absolute greats,I listened to this band becouse I loved the guitar work. Most great guitarists want one thing when they pass on and that is for people to remember them and say "man that guy could really play"well heres to you Hughie you won't be forgotten.
I believe in my heart HT was the purest essence of Southern Rock and his music will live forever in infamy. We soo miss your creative talents my friend. Rest in Peace and let the" Kings and Queens bow and play for YOU".
I'm seeing The Outlaws on May 22 on Long Island at the Long Island Southern Jam 2010. They're there with Marshall Tucker Band, Molly Hatchet, Blackberry Smoke and Chris Hicks. Website says they're going to have an all band Jam Fest! I can't wait.
my pleasure Stik..you know they're playing at " Long Island southern JAM.? May 22,2010....alot of good bands there..just google it.Take care Thanks again for the Guitar Army Remembrance...Happy Trails.
Thankyou 007, beachie & all ya'll out there who like and appreciate the vid! It means a lot to know there's still so many southern rock lovers out there...especially for the Outlaws....especially for Hughie!!!
Having been to the two day shows at Capecod Coleseum every year they played, having been in front row..numerous times, having seen them 27 times and counting..I cannot express in words alone what Hughie meant to me...nor Billy,..know that these sites do keep the "FLAME" Alive..thanks for this one ...God Bless and Happy Trails
henry paul and monte may be original members of the outlaws but hughie kept the band going much of his adult life...it saddens me to see what is now taking place...life goes on and with that there will always be change but how important it is to also respect the past...godspeed HT
He thought the show would suck....Outlaws opened for The Marshall Tucker Band...what a fokin night that was....and they all jammed together to close the show....fuck yes!
I've met guys who used to follow Hughie like deadheads followed thd dead. To see the magic he'd lay down nightly. Anyone who plays guitar recognizes what HT brought to the game. I caught the Outlaws in 79 and the revamped Skynyrd in 0 something, and Hughie was the best part of both. God rest ye...
yea they should release that album. itll be the last 1 thats any good. the new outlaws suck. they need to get rid of henry paul and billy crain. they're a disgrace to hughies legacy. henrys trying to turn the outlaws into a country band. hughie was a master of southern rock!
Was fortunate to see Hughie live when my big sister took me to a bar in Tampa, then in the early days and hay days of the Outlaws,.. and again in recent years on the "Back with a Bang" Reunion tour. His music touched me and will live forever in my heart and soul.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was a great band up until the plane accident in"77". The eventually came back but didn't have that same edge as before. When they recruited Ricky Medlock & Hughie Thomasson they re-gained that edge again mostly due to Hughie. He lit a fire under their asses
and it shown in their preformances. when Hughie left Skynryd the band lost that edge again. Sure they replaced Hughie but I'm not anyway impressed with his replacement.
When you pop in a CD or turn on the radio and hear his music you automatically know who your listen too. His singing and guitar playing was his own and will never get lost in the sea of
my biggest wish was to see the OUTLAWS live i never thought i would get that chance untill i heard they were going to play at the HOUSE of BLUES in chicago in may of 2005 the GREATEST thrill of my life finally happened it was a great show especially when my wife and i were right at the very front of the stage the guys even high fived me it was the best concert ive ever been to god bless you Hugie we will all miss you my friend thanks for making my wish come true
I just can't believe that over the years with all the guitat player polls that came out rarely if ever mentioned Hughie. Just goes to show that the people who try to manipulate public opinion of real art fail to do justice to those that make it real. Ask any guitarist with experience to play what The Outlaws played and they will admit that it isn't just rock 'n roll.
Almans,Skynyrd,CDB,MTB,Molly Hachet,Wet Willy, and of course one of the tops "The Outlaws". It is up to us to pass this great stuff on to the kiddies. I love and always will Southern Rock music and these guys were especially close to my heart...lotsa memories growing up, hearing the tunes on the radio on a saturday nite cruising and so much more! Then to see Hughie playing with Skynyrd later on in life and to get to see him straight up and close in the first row...shivers man...always remember & never forget! Keep it alive!
hughie , allen collins steve gaines , duane allman , leon wilkinson a lot of great southern rockers have died too soon , makes me wonder if God wasnt from the south and wanted a kick ass band up there with him.
Danny Jo Brown, George Mckorkle, Toy and Tommy Caldwell, Duane Roland, Jacson spires, if God has got a southern rock outfit goin, its the greatest ever in history
Hughie will always be missed...we have his music and his legacy...Outlaws...Skynyrd...it bothers me that he died so close to the anniversery of Skynyrds terrible plane crash...

Green Grass & High Tides was Usually Their Closing Song at Most of Their Shows..The Song Usually Played For 12-20 Minutes...This Is One Of Their Most Memorable Songs...Great Tribute to My Old Friend Hughie Thomasson...
Hughie is one of those real artists who has to be taken away for others to stop and think. He was really great and made his fans love him. It was him that made the Outlaws what they were.
sean mcdowell of WDVE did a fitting tribute to Hughie last night and it was really cool..it made me dig out all of my pictures of myself and H.T. what agreat pleasure or bonus that i was friends with hughie..we will all see him again..

great job on this, pictures are great while listening to GGHT.( awesome for your first time doing this stickbasher) We will all greatly miss Hughie,he was deffinitly one of a kind.
You are so right JLDB. I'm 45 and only saw them 6 times, but feel the same! Hughie and Billie together were awesome, that video is great!
If you want to see what an incredible guitarist Hughie was, check out (part 2, especially) of GGAHT from 1977 posted on Youtube. Some of the best lead, with him and Billy, of any rock band ever.
Wow. Both Billy and Hughie gone. I'm 46 and loved the Outlaws from 1977 on. Saw them at least 10 times. This hurts. God bless and thanks for everything, Hughie and Billy. Gone but never forgotten.
Great job, by the way, at 6:12 of the video, the picture of Hughie smiling at the girl standing, that picture was taken by me at The BB King's show Oct 2006. Obviously you got that picture from Outlaw website where I posted it. No problem, was a nice surprise to see it here!

Awesome Stikbasher, and thank you for making this moving tribute. You took and/or assembled an impressive collection of photos of Hughie. I'm glad that the collection included some of his time spent in Lynyrd Skynyrd, an important slice of his career. The photos of Hughie with the little child and with Charlie Daniels are priceless - also the one of Medlocke partially playing Hughie's guitar for him. An immense hole has been ripped into the world of Southern Rock, and I'm so sad for it :-(
