  • this is the x nuremberg built in the 1930's for the german navy it was aloted to russia as reperations

  • @ton870 Very wrong. It is the Murmansk, a Sverdlov class cruiser built by the Russians during 1953 and 1955. It broke the tow line in 1994 and grounded near Sorvaer, Norway. They are currently braking it apart due to hazardous materials on board. There is also the suspicion that it might contain Polonium.

  • Someone has to say it... guess i will... IN SOVIET RUSSIA, SHIP SINKS YOU!!!!

  • be a nice tourist attraction than dragged out to sea and sunk in deep water...but what do I know :)

  • this ship was made 10 years after WWII so it hasn't got too much of a history. It's an amazing site, but it has no value.

  • I think some folks are confusing the bow for the stern. The video starts at the bow and moves aft. The turret that is above water is 'B' turret. Watch the video closely and you will see the submerged roof of 'A' turret in front of 'B'turret.

  • This is the Russian cruiser Murmansk, this I know with certainty because it is just under 4 mil from where I live. The Norwegian government has decided that the Murmansk will be removed after pressure from local people and work is now underway.

  • Damn. I was hoping to see and perhaps visit it one day...

  • She looks like a regular russian ship still in service. lol

  • cool

  • The AA guns and gun directors look WWII German. Could this be the cruiser that Germany sold to Russia during WWII incomplete? The Russians finished her, but Im not sure what happened to her after that. Its amazing that the ship still has her anti aircraft guns, most warships lost those in the 1950's as anti aircraft missiles took over.

  • the German Light Cruisers have only 2 Turrets on the aft of the ship and one in the front ..., from the shiluet its no Carpajev/Murmansk class.

  • the murmansk cruiser wasnt laid down until 1953 so couldnt be a german wwII ship

  • It could be the Sverdlov Class Murmansk. But I doubt it, that ship in the video does have the two turrets fore but im not seeing the two in the aft of the ship as,well as one of the two funnels. the ship in this video only has one. I doubt that either government retrieved only that...

  • Its possible she was being dismantled for spare parts atsome point while she was in Russia before being sent off to be scrapped entirely.

  • This is Russian light cruiser Murmansk. He wreck in 1990.

  • This is the german cruiser Blutcher, sunk in 1940 by coastal torpedo bateries, during the invasion.

  • No it isn't. The Blutcher is upside down under 150 feet of water. This is the Russian cruiser Murmansk, which was being towed to India to be cut up for scrap in 1994 when the tow line parted in a storm.

  • the coast near murmansk is full of old rusty metal of that sort :)

  • by the way its not russian

  • Okay smart guy what is it? If you even try claiming its a German Cruiser you better be ready to have HARD evidence because its not.

  • Its the Russian Murmansk. It sank during tow on its way for repares. And you notice AA, and naval guns are still their. The Russian navy had to little money, and not enough time to remove them.

  • This ship has distinct WW2 German style gun directors. Was this one of many ships started during the war and canceled, then finished in the early 1950s?

  • Negative. The Soviets however made great use of what ever they got their hands on and found it to be better then what they had and making copies. They likely did that with German Naval optics.

  • Wow, that's cool, but sad.

  • It's the "Murmansk". A cruiser of "Sverdlov"-class, built in the early 50ies. She went on ground in 1994 while she was heading to Alang.

  • konigsburg was sunk in German east Africa

  • That was the ww1 cruiser, the ww2 one was bombed in Norway and rolled over and sank at her dock.

  • i believe that this cruiser is the "konigsburg"

a german light cruiser sunk by british dive bombers in bergan fjord

  • It's the russsian cruiser murmansk, grounded here in 1994 while under tow. "konigsburg" only had one turret forward (two aft). This had two turrets forward.

  • I think it is the ex Kreigsmarine light cruiser Koln which was renamed Makarov or Admiral Makarov.

  • Negative, Koln did not have turrets set up like this. This vessel regardless of when she was built has two turrets forward her bridge(turret A's roof is visible at the water level). Koln only had one forward her bridge.

  • nice vid but what happen to it

  • you know what, im going to take that ship and restore it and make it sail again

  • Sure. After building your replica of SS America right? They should raise her and sink her as a diving wreck.

  • Incredible video. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • title must be change Russian light crusier

    wreck at Norway

  • has anyone considered moving the ship to be restored or put parts o it in a museum

  • Curious since this was a Russian ship: did they ever scrap K-19? I read that twice they tried and the dock workers refused to even get within 50 feet of the "Widowmaker".

  • this was a Light Cruiser built after WW2....she was to be scrapped on India when the damn tow line broke making her run aground in Norway

  • attacked???? sorry don't know of any conflict between norway and russia in 1994. she was under tow to be cut up for scrap and drifted into present location unmaned in bad weather.

  • What you didn't hear about the Great Snow Ball War fought in 1994? See Russia was mad that Norway could make their own snow cones and sent cruisers there to stop them, but the Norway armed forces sank this ship with snowballs.

  • lol

  • Did she run aground, Or was she attacked ?

  • 1994 under tow to be scrapped broke tow line and grounded here near the harbor of sorvaer norway.

    it's the russian murmansk

  • Great information!

  • I would go board it and take one of those machine guns. who would know?

  • good luck getting it off.

How awesome would that be to have something with unestimable historic value close enough to study??!!!!!

  • probably a light cruiser of the German Kriegsmarine sunk during the invasion of Norway in April 1940

  • probably a light cruiser of the German Kriegsmarine sunk in April 1940

  • extremely intact looks like its been barely touched over the years neat wreck.

  • Is it possible or feasible to raise this ghost ship out of the water for preservation purposes?

  • It probably is with today's technology, but many may want to just leave it as a memorial. :)

  • It's possible that it is the Russian (Soviet) Sverdlov Class cruiser Murmansk. I don't see the second funnel, but. that could have been removed. The 14 ships of this class were 14,290 tons, and completed between 1951-7. They were all out of service by 1991, Their design influence is actually Italian.

  • Correct it is.

  • someone has to dive under water and look for the name of the ship ;)

  • The boat should be pulled to India where it was to be taken apart, but was lost in bad weather outside the island of Senja (in the county of Troms) when the steel ropes attached to wreck broke. It drifted without crew or captain in rough weather for several days, and neither the coast guard nor the Norwegian Navy managed to gain control over the ghost ship...Ironically, the wreck ended up as a neighbour to the NATO radar station in Sørvær!

  • The Russian warship Murmansk

When the church bells rang in Christmas Eve in 1994, the inhabitants of Sørvær were given a really unique Christmas gift. The wreck of the Russian battleship "Murmansk" came drifting right into the village!

  • This looks to be German in design, turrets have exterior hanging masts and the noticible slope to the stern on the smoke stack. Look at the Bismarck, Tirpitz aswell as Scharnhorst and Prinze Eugen. As well it is a fact that Germany had control of Norwegian waters during the majority of WW2. This is could have been an attempt to beach and save the ship if there was damage in battle or by a static mine. Very cool post!!

  • It looks more like alight cruiser than a destroyer. I'll look in some of my books to see what design fits.

  • thats cool how about alittle explanation behind the history of the ship?

  • was unable to find anything specific about this ship.

  • @cb3500blue i think i have found this ship on google maps

    70.485602,22.107394

  • someone has to dive under water and look for the shipname ;)

  • u should go on the wreck and c wats inside!!!!!!
