Apple is crap - stolen technology and stolen software in a minimalist box. Anyone who rates a mac for graphics, sound, and/or video production is stuck living in the 80s when Apple were then better but if you can be bothered to build your own machine then for the same price as an Apple you will have a computer with a better graphics card(s) and faster and greater memory and you can use Adobe CS or Sony Vegas etc. more easily - granted any machine with Windows Vista needs a OS change.

They are personal computers for these reasons: They basically function like windows computers, (mouse, keyboard, they have an OS, they can access the internet, they are programmable, and programmed, they run on the same kind of scripts and electrical impulses, and they are used for work or personal buisiness) Therefore, they are Personal Computers. (PCs). Claiming anything else is just plain stupid and a hopeless try to put mac on a piedestal.
No one buys a mac for gaming. Get real. Every stupid fanboy uses gaming as an argument against Macs. I personally favor my imac for my home recording studio. The OS is better for multitasking and is more reliable than Windows... Which is VERY important when working with these kinds of programs. When you're creating something in the passion of the moment, you MUST have stability. I love my PC more, but some of you are so ignorant and will repeat anything you read on your fanboy forums.

@1993gandy OS aside...and I won't include certain design elements that are all Apple, but most of their hardware is off the shelf fare, stuffed into their design, then marked up over market value by at least 100%. How again is this reasonable? Don't even try to tell me that the cases/plastic housings/thin laptops are actually worth that much of a premium.

As to your challenge, it took 7 minutes on Newegg to meet/beat those specs(batt life aside), some coming in at almost $200 shy of your $1k challenge.
Please, look somewhere other than Best Buy or whatever, shop around.
@m0deth I done a bit of searching on newegg and the closest that comes to the all the specs of the MacBook Pro 13 (I didn't say all of them) is the Sony Vaio SA Series VPCSA3AFX/BI which is $949.99. Apple don't exactly sell their laptops at 100% over market value I do agree about the patent trolling. That is stupid but it has got nothing to do with the price of their laptops. They are only patent trolling in the tablet and phone market.
@1993gandy The i5 in the Macbook isn't quad core either. It's dual core with hyper-threading, as is that i5. Plus, if you do your research, the Sandy Bridge cores really aren't that much better, in terms of performance. The extra .26GHz on the Acer will probably offset any perfomance improvements.
And as I said, prices have dropped since I picked my laptop up. I've seen them advertised for $850, but it depends where you look.

Most non-SB i5s are 45nm SB i5s are 32nm and that makes a huge difference especially when rendering videos or editing photos. and you can't really compare a 15 inch laptop to a 13 inch can you? But if you want to compare your 15 inch Acer to a 15 MacBook then I will write down the specs.

Apple has only 5 or 6 hardware combinations where as PCs running Windows has billions if not trillions of hardware combinations so it doesn't matter what GHz the Acer i5 is running at Mac will still blow it out of the water because it will be optimized better. My 2006 PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.4.11 boots around 10 seconds quicker and does things faster than my desktop which has AMD Phenom 955BE, 4GB RAM and 7200RPM HDD
@1993gandy Also; comparing boot times can't really be done using different systems. If you run Ubuntu on your computer, then chances are it will boot faster. Another thing that affects start-up times is the number of programs that run on start-up. Naturally, there are more of these for an average PC, because PCs run a larger variety of programs.
Personally, I prefer my Acer laptop because I can actually put my hardware to good use with gaming and CAD. Yes, there are mac games, but far fewer.

I worked for a newspaper and was surrounded by mac fans. My favorite argument I heard was that the G5 was considered a weapon in some countries because it was so powerful. Now, macs use PC hardware... Yup, powerful stuff, alright.

The architecture of the PowerPC's has never been in dispute, in fact Microsoft Fanboys can rejoice that the G5 is what makes their XBox 360s work.
The switch to Intel was mainly due to IBM wanting to focus on the embedded market not home computing. Not really an issue of not being powerful. Some of the largest supercomputing arrays still use them.

The Cell processor in the PS3 was also developed along with IBM and used to create super cheap supercomputers; the PS3 was released in 2006, so what you're trying to say is that a 1,500 macintosh computer was as powerful as a 400 dollar console? How about 250 dollars for the 360? The G5 processors may have been powerful, but they were not more powerful than a leading x86 processor (such as an FX-55). Apple knew Conroe was the way to go.

There is roughly a 10% improvement. but .26GHZ is more than 10% of 2.4, so you would offset the losses.
You can compare a 15" to a 13", but if you insist on comparing the 15" MacBook, then there are some specs that are worse, and some that are better.
2.66GHz (runs up to 2.93) Dual Core i5 with hyper threading (Same as 4 cores)

Macs look good, but perform quite badly, unless you're doing films or music stuff on them, PCs are more reliable and just more solid all round. But honestly, I use my laptop for Music, film editing etc. and a PC and MAC are just as good as each other or it

i think every OS is good for different things, you might want Mac OS for garageband, imovie, etc, you might want windows 7 for gaming and just general internet, or you might want ubuntu for programming and coding. Overall, its not a big deal, dont be such a nerd and go look for a window

I personally like having my shit work,ALL the time.Fuck PC,it stands for piece of crap.Mac might be up there in price but if you ever want a pc to preform like a mac you'll spend twice as much.I used to build Pc's for insight and was a huge fan until I started producing music.Still haven't found a PC that can handle tracks like a G5,STOCK.So if you own a Mac you're an idiot?No,I can just afford a good computer cause I have a job and don't live in my moms basement.Opinions people,opinions.

@giomunky21 Paid $600 for my PC, makes absolutely NO noise, looks sleek and shiny, feels the same. Came with a perfect widescreen monitor, that is the same quality as the PC... 2 dual surround-sound speakers... loads webpages with splitsecond timing, runs Minecraft with a bloody perfect FPS. Same with TF2, CS:S, Terraria, PVKII, and whatever else I happen to feel like playing. My conclusion? My PC was cheaper than most Macs are, and it runs just a good, I laugh at you and your silly Mac. HAHAHAH

I worked for a newspaper and was surrounded by mac fans. My favorite argument I heard was that the G5 was considered a weapon in some countries because it was so powerful. Now, macs use PC hardware... Yup, powerful stuff, alright.

@DanLightning The PowerPC G4 and G5 were classed by the Pentagon as Super Computers and thus were restricted in where they could be exported.
The architecture of the PowerPC's has never been in dispute, in fact Microsoft Fanboys can rejoice that the G5 is what makes their XBox 360s work.
The switch to Intel was mainly due to IBM wanting to focus on the embedded market not home computing. Not really an issue of not being powerful. Some of the largest supercomputing arrays still use them.

@britpod The supercomputers made from G5s were clusters... The Cell processor in the PS3 was also developed along with IBM and used to create super cheap supercomputers; the PS3 was released in 2006, so what you're trying to say is that a 1,500 macintosh computer was as powerful as a 400 dollar console? How about 250 dollars for the 360? The G5 processors may have been powerful, but they were not more powerful than a leading x86 processor (such as an FX-55). Apple knew Conroe was the way to go.
