  • I cried... the first video I've ever watch on YouTube that made me cry.

    HOPE.

It's a pure and good message.

    ISAIAH 40:30-31

30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

  • Thank you. Everyone seems to take something different from this video and I'm glad to see that it spoke to you in some way.

  • I think you did a great job, It funny how I came to watch this video, our uni teacher was ment to show us in class because he believed that everyone will one day be in "the waiting place" (rut) and only you can change that. anyway I think you did a great job ;-)

  • Thank you! I appreciate it. Not too many people make their way to this video so it's nice to see comments.

  • This is really wonderful. The pace and soundtrack makes me impatient though- as a waiting place should be.

  • Im glad that you directed me to this; I like a lot of the things that you did with it. The metaphor of Hope was particularly well done, and I like how you didnt just copy Dr. Seuss wholesale (there wasnt anybody longing for a string of pearls, or a pair of pants). My main criticism is in the lack of conflict. There needs to be a force preventing him from finding hope, and trying to keep him in this place. Otherwise it feels like he's just visiting, and in no danger at all.

  • There are two ways to display such a force. You could make it an internal one, and have him trying to resist the urge to stay and wait like everybody else. This would probably be the more artistic choice (and most accurate to the source material), but also the more difficult. It would take some true Masters of writing, directing and acting to successfully pull that off, and I think its fair to say that this is a Journeymans piece (or at very least the work of a skilled Apprentice).

  • The other way is by making the force external, which is the more practical choice. Have the people physically try to stop him, and have him struggle against them. You hinted at this with the people that were in his way, but they were literally push-overs; no actual struggle. Im talking about everyone in the room trying to stop him, to keep him from pursuing this dream that is beyond their comprehension. He needs to strain with all his might to break out, and emerge panting and weary but free.

  • Thank you for taking the time again to critique my film. I agree with you as far as the lack of conflict goes. The more I watch it the more I find things I would like to change. The internal struggle would definitely be the stronger of the two and a direction I would go if I were to revisit this piece, which I am thinking about doing. And no, I'm not a master of writing, I'm an editor. This was the first legit attempt to write a serious film. I co-wrote the music video.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed this piece though. It's always nice to hear when your work is appreciated. To comment on the physical struggle I hinted at. These are people who bring you down with them without meaning to. You know the kind of people I'm talking about I'm sure. I agree that this could have been shown better, I just wanted you to know what I was attempting to get across there. This is a film that I would love to revisit to make stronger. Thank you again for your critique.
