This is perfect. Most attempts at this on the net are just atrocious. I'm going to post the bass part playing along with YOUR version, since most people can't seem to get the feel of that right either!
I'm a French fan of America and I've always wanted to play this song on my old guitar. Thanks to you, tonedr, it's done ! Thank you very much for your great tutorial ! You rock ! Greetings from France !
hello...strumming patterns IMO are best 'felt' - try to lock into the groove of the song and not as concerned about up and down 'patterns' - my other suggestion would be to get a feel for it slow and then try to speed up your strumming. Not sure what you mean about 'bounce up and down' - thanks for watching!
Love your videos thanks a lot... Have you ever watched the live version of this track floating around YouTube? He plays a killer solo at the beginning that I'd love to learn how to play! Check out it sometime!

really appreciate your kind post and thanks for watching the video! Great to hear from another America fan - you will get this down solid! Keep pickin, your friend,
I just started learning to play the guitar yesterday, and this song is one of the reasons. I've watched your vid several times and I love it! Gives me something to shoot for =)
Gifted ! God sure has blessed you very much. What guitar is it that you are playing, has such a lovely sound ?? Hoping you will let me know so I can Import it. Thanks.
thank you for your kind words & taking time to watch the video! The guitar is a Collings C-10 - mine has the 'deep body' option and the woods are adi/mah. All the best with your music!!
@tonedr Greetings all the way from Tamil Nadu, India. You are very welcome. Pleasure was mine. Thank you for the info on the beautiful guitar. I am actually looking it up as I am typing this comment. You inspire me and I have picked up my guitar after a long hiatus ! so..Thank you :)
Freakin awesome. The way you play it is just beautiful. I'm just starting out but I got a couple of good pointers from your lesson. You have inspired me to keep going.
thanks for watching the video and i appreciate your kind feedback! You keep pickin and you will get this totally under your fingers - all the best with your music!
The Tin Man was told he had nothing. But in fact he had grace. His heart was full of gifts, as we all are. America was a very profound band. Their Spiritual music.
Awesome! I love this track, and I love your video. It will really help me to nail those chords. Have you heard Incognito's cover of Tin Man? I think they really got the feel of it spot on. Search for Incognito Tin Man :)
......thank you for the lesson....you're an excellent teacher....I especially like that you tell us where to put our fingers....that's very helpful.......keep up the great guitar playing. thanx. Darryl.
SO MANY instructional videos are put out there by people who seem like they never quite dialed the art of strumming. its refreshing to see someone who gracefully and accurately strums the song! that being said, i play this clip over and over.. trying to replicate youre strumming tecnique.. and MAN.. is it difficult! are there any tips you can give to help? youre example in my opinion is by far the best. thanks
thanks for taking your time to watch the video and your kind post is greatly appreciated!
i guess my number one thought for myself on strumming is keeping my hand relaxed not tight and certainly not anchored to the top. Almost a feel like your trying to sling water off your hand.
i wish you all the best with your music - your friend,
Wow. When people try to mimic a band as talented as America, they usually end up looking like idiots. You're very clean and sure as hell know you're way around that gitfiddle.
Wow totally awesome!!!!! I dont believe I have ever heard anyone play as well as you. So clean... that guitar sings. I am glad you will never hear me play it.... lol.
Very well done. Too many people never learn the maj 7ths and stick to power chords and expect to be considered good or even great just because they can do a solo or two from a beginners book.
Great playing, you've got the real America feel going on! - Great lesson - I've always wanted to learn this song but the tabs I've had have not been so good. thanks very much
