  • Why are external waste gates illegal?

  • Does the wastegate release air before it gets to the turbo? or does it release air as its being boosted into the intake?

  • can you pleas speake german !!!!!!^^

  • Top Vid very informative.

  • nice vid

  • Any mechanics or scientists here?

  • @kalijasin~ ye.... what do u want?

  • @marek0086 lots of questions here.

  • The waste gate is there to stop the turbo from OVER boosting.

If a turbo didnt have a waste gate, you'd put your foot down, and as the revs rise the turbo would just keep making more and more boost until your engine blew up.

  • @marek0086 But we are still confused about MPGs. Does that improve MPG, decrease MPG, or leave it the same???

  • @kalijasin~ wastegate has nothing to do with MPG.

  • @marek0086 Nor do turbos generals but if you add one mpgs will go down. At least, that's what some on here are saying.

  • I would like to see someone give us some information on the mpg factor.

  • Will the waste gate prevent the loss in mpg?? My understanding is if the turbo is used continuously rather than when needed there will be a decrease im mpg.

  • @kalijasin

From what I understand, you should not see a decrease in mpg as long as you stay out of boost.

  • @bendover893 staying out of boost means you are not using the turbo?

  • @kalijasin your turbo is always spinning if the engine is on. i was just thinking that the engine would require more fuel when in boost

  • @bendover893~ yes of course u need more fuel when in boost. U have to maintain the right air:fuel ratio. If theres more air being pushed into the cylinders.... well then u need more fuel.

  • This video is great. Best educational video I've seen in a while!

    Cheers.

  • @dandamansrandomvids that seems pretty fake...

  • If i want a .50 trim turbo to boost 25lbs should i get a bigger spring than 25lbs or less.

  • Tial is the best :)

  • hi , i need more help with my civic turbo :) i have d15b7 turbo civic with 0.8 bar boost. so i dont know what kkind of Westgate to use and which turbo charger would be best for me :) now im using garrett t3 turbo ... but it starts work only after 3.3rpm

  • @TheRyziai .8 bar 10-12 pound, 38 mm gate would b sufficient

  • lmfao yeah i feel like the waist gates are over looked just cuz they dont produce any power just regulate it. but i think turbo chargers are not even close as up to date as they should be to increase there output and reduce the heat created more threw the exhaust turbine i have a really cool idea to increase power output and decrease heat eminence. ..... i just turned 18 and im looking for a shop to work at that has a descent set up i live in NY so if u could use an extra brain send me an email.

  • this was really helpful, thanks! (:

  • im taken my wastgate off for extra hp lol dont do it kids ur car not fast ass mine dats y im da twinturbo master

  • so instead of a wastgates could you have a BOV??

  • @Jboyswag16

They are two totally different things

wastegates are the exhaust side, bovs are the intake side

wastegates regulate/maintains the pressure made by the turbo

bovs are to relieve made pressure in between compressor and throttle to prevent compressor surge but many high hp turbo cars dont have a bov which you can hear a fluttering sound.

  • spoiler + 50hp

  • correct me if i am wrong please, is an external wastegate just a BOV?

  • @SlashsSon101 A wategate regulates boost when the turbo spools. A BOV discards boost when the throttle snaps shut to prevent turbo lag.

  • those 7 people are the ones in school who are always like "....i still don't get it" with a stupid look on their face

  • is cool to be 15 years old and be able to teach people about how wastegates work!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome!

  • Boss

  • Great video! Lots of useful info!

  • This dude knows his shit!

  • Fantastic video! need more like this!

  • 7 people drive supercharged cars

  • Comment removed

  • verry informative man..thanks alot

  • is a t28 bb garret same thing as a gt 28 bb garret

  • We need more videos like this.

  • thank god i found this video haha

  • for a moment i thought he was saying 'wise guys' 4 wastegates

  • Holy shit balls I need to get out of Vegas. Everything is illegal here!

  • lol rice application's 7:40

  • @wirelesscps i think he said "race applications" but his accent made it sound like rice ahhahah

  • @NASTYTHEBOY No you don't plug the hole on the top. If you just want to use the spring to control boost that hole remains open so the spring housing can breathe properly.

  • Is he saying RICE applications @ 7:35? :D

  • Thanks :)

  • i want this guy to work on my car. he actually knows what he is talking about.

  • the HKS stickers alone are good for 30 hp...

  • @vroomvroompartystata

    lolol :)

  • after his speach i want to run and buy external wastegate

  • Kilowatts eh.

  • so when cars have a boost button/controller, are they just adjusting the wastegate to generate more boost? (total noob here)

  • say man, what if i only want to make the 8 psi that my waste is supposed to make!?

do i just plug thw whole on the top!? i have a bone stock motor and dont want to blow it to shit anytime soon :/

  • Aussie's they're so smart :)

  • this really helps!! ^^

  • now why would 6 people not like this video?

  • ahhh...finally i know about them

  • Come to Alabama. We vent to atmosphere here;)

  • great video, learnt heaps. cheers thanks

  • this is explained really well. thimbs up

  • Great video ;)

  • what is the difference in kilowats as to what it would be horsepower wise? Like how much horsepower is 300kw?

  • @buddah463 1 horsepower is equivalent to 746Watts.. or 0.746Kilowatts. So 300KW would be about 400HP

  • @SHEEK905 1kw = 1.36 HP

  • Defantly gonna get one of those screamers in the future.

  • thanks a lot it helps me more than you belive it

  • Nice vid

  • this video shows u can use a cheap wasgate just ungrade the spring inside and you will be good =)

  • great vids 5/5

  • Great Information!

  • Nice to understand a little more about turbos. :)

  • how or where do i found out wat i can put in my car without getting it impounded

  • trial and error. haha

  • i have 2004 saab, i won to put the wastegat and let the gas go to atmosphere, but i have 2 sensors after the turbo will it be problem for ecu?

  • it shouldnt do

  • do what ?

  • I didn't learn abything at school today.

But i learn alot about wastegate because of this guy.

    Koodoes

  • u sure didnt learn how t spell

  • @66jamie99 maybe you should'nt be sleeping in class then

  • i got 2 tial 50mm on my '09 silverado 4.8.

  • thats bullshit!

  • lol reminds me of my friend's rsx when it used to have a 16g greddy kit...it would spike to 13 psi then dip down to 8! external wastegates FTW

  • too bad for you if u did not undestand all this.

A BOV is not even metioned in this video at all. A turbocharged engine has A "BOV" and a "WASTEGATE". he talked about the WASTEGATE in this video. and he did an awseme job at that.

  • sorry, I wasn't familiar enough with external ones. but they look just like a bigger version of BOV ( diff purpose of course) so I was confused. one control air, one control exhaust.

  • waw u donno wat is a wastegate for ? i mean u don even noe wastegate existed ? ok cool

  • what, no there the same thing...

  • if you are refering that a BOV and a WASTEGATE is the same thing. than you are wrong big time. they work by the same principal with vaccum... and they both are valves, but built for 2 different things. a wastegate for the exhaust (this video), the BOV for the intake manifold between intercooler and throttlebody to release the extra pressure when u take foot off the throttle.

  • thx man

  • okay so what exactly does an electronic boost controller do? and how can you learn how to use one.. i was thinking of gettin one since i have an extra 800 dollars but i want to learn about them first.

  • the boost controller controlls the amount of boost coming from the turbo. you controll the boost by the nobs on the controller. it will show like 5 psi or 10 psior simply high or low . you only need a boost controller if you are running high psi.

  • great informational video

  • i always think he say wise guy instead of wastegate hahahaha srry man..

  • wise guy. LOL good one

  • better to have a variable geometry turbo. full boost from the start up

  • Where does the Turbo whistle come from?

  • blow off valve...

but if it whistles doesnt' that mean it's inefficient? wasted energy?

  • K, but I never heard a turbo don't whistle.

  • The whistle isnt from the blow off valve, thats just the sound a turbine makes. The BOV should only be making noise when you let off the gas.

  • theres no turbo whistle.. it shouldnt whistle when you're speeding up.. the blow off valve releases pressure from the turbo when you let off the throttle which creates the whistle.

  • maybe he means spooling up. there is a sound when the turbo spools

  • the noise comes from the the turbo it self. when the turbine spines fast and long enought it makes the whistle. kind of like when you try to make your mouth whistle you have to blow hard enough to make the noise

  • Is that an australian accent? im bad w accents.

  • yes

  • SensationBW you should never post anything about turbos again, u dont know shit and no one should post about turbo set ups if u cant spell INJECTION.....im sorry but i would never listen to you and no one else should either

  • lol what was it he said? im curious to know lol

  • can i put a turbo on my carburetor engine?

  • BAHAHA yes you can you idiot. Please don't post about something you know nothing about.

  • U R so stupid !!! U can't understand what i mean moron !!!

  • watch?v=6ncHXxqNkpI

  • k man

  • Useless

  • you need to pressurize the carb, or use a draw-trough set up... Yes you can turbocharge a carb.. it is a pain but possible.

  • nice explanation dude

  • Thanks man. Appreciate all that knowledge, it's great!

  • Great explanation. Thanks!

  • I run a GT3076r .82 with the Garrett internal gate as shown here.

I went with a bell mouth dump as it evens out the back pressure between the turbine wheel and wastegate of which prevents boost creep as rpm increases.

As mentioned in this vid mine drops boost up top as the flapper is internal flap is blowing open.

Cams picked up close to 30rwkw on the same boost now at 302rwkw @ 17psi.

On with an 18psi actuator that should allow me to run 20-21psi up top.

    Fingers crossed I crack 310-320rwkw.

  • this vid tought me alot but i have one question if you have more back pressure with the exhaust gases would that go up to the manifold with more pressure and make the turbo fan spin faster and suck in more air to the engin???

  • great video for me cause im a noob

  • wow this was a huge help.

  • i have a boost controller for the waste gate can some one tell what way do i fit this? one end of the controller has a fine pin hole and the other end it has about 2mm hole just not sure if it would make any difference what way it goes

  • good video... educational i love it...

but how would the KW be different according to street or race trim? he must mean tune right?

  • I have a turbo in my car so if I add an external wastegate I can increase power? Will the engine management system adjust to the new boost or do you have to change that also?

    (I have a Saab 93 2.0t)

  • Simply adding an external wastegate will not increase power. It's only when you increase power output via higher boost pressure/larger turbo/etc. that you'll need to incorporate an external wastegate to effectively manage the boost pressure.

  • It is a beautiful video

I am happy because it is a beautiful video

  • yes u can u have to weld the internal gate closed then must either dril and weld a flange to your stock manifold, that is where u would be mounting the new wastegate, or what i did is just by a new manifold that is flanged for a external gate.

  • ok, this might be the dumbest question ever, so i apologize guys, but can a stock sti turbo(VF39) have its internal wastegate switched out to run an external one? how can we run an internal waste gate on our stock turbo, or can it not be done? Thanks guys!!

  • IWSTI love! Also wonderin the same thing.

  • you can have it set up for external. you will remove the wastegate from the turbo and install a bracket that holds the internal flap closed, then just buy a aftermarket up pipe that has a EWG flange on it then get a aftermarket boost solenoid or controler not a MBC and get tuned.

  • i was watching this edition this arvo... lol

  • nice information

    thank you

  • lovely
