  • I've read most of his books. They are oversimplified and more entertaining than informative and factual. MOST of the universities took the money after Regan left office. BTW the THAAD laser and the Aegis missile network system do, in fact, work.

  • @DrMotorDude First of all, THAAD is a missile. Second of all, define 'work'. Do they work in a highly scripted test environment? Yes, most of the time. Would they work in an actual shooting war with nuclear weapons? Probably not. They're all very reliant on radars for targeting (obviously) and these radars are very vulnerable. It only takes on high yield, high altitude burst to blind the radars and render the defense system useless. It's a waste of money, at least for ICBM defense.

  • @Nater245689 THAAD and Aegis are both multicomponent integrated systems. THAAD uses a laser system for tracking and targeting and Aegis uses multifrequency radar systems. What is 'highly scripted?' Do you mean in actual earth atmosphere with target missiles flying hypersonic? Then YES they do work. They're also EMP hardened. I spent over 20 years in the military but then again nothing can trump an armchair commando on the internet. Kaku still oversimplifies.

  • @DrMotorDude If you'd spend 20 years in the military you'd know how easily sophisticated radars can be blinded by an electromagnetic pulse. As far as I know, lasers have absolutely nothing to do with the THAAD system. It's basically an upsized Patriot PAC-3 with an x-band radar for tracking and targeting along with a hit to kill missile system.

  • @Nater245689 Look up "EMP hardened." I don't know where you got your information but it's not complete. X band is yesterday's news.

  • @dieselscience First off, there is no 'EMP hardened'. The science is referred to as radiation hardening. First and foremost, the elements and cabling on a large phased array radar is going to act as an EMP collector. A big one. The other big problem is the signal processing equipment. There are ways to build computers to be more tolerant of EMP, but they're not very practical (using TTL or ECL logic instead of CMOS) and using SRAM instead of DRAM.

  • @Nater245689 The reason you "can't imagine building..." is you have no idea what you are talking about, run along before I embarrass you.

  • @dieselscience This right hear proves you don't know what you're talking about in any way. Instead of trying to explain yourself, you say nothing. Brilliant.

  • @dieselscience I doubt you even know what TTL. ECL, and CMOS are. Granted, you'll probably look them up in Wikipedia and become an 'expert' but you obviously don't know shit. If you did, you'd know that using TTL or ECL for powerful computer systems just isn't feasible these days. The last time high-end computer systems used TTL or ECL was in the early 1990s and even then they were niche products. IBM used it in mainframes because they have a complete monopoly and don't have to innovate.

  • @dieselscience The problem with using ECL or TTL instead of CMOS is that the latter is vastly more efficient from both a power standpoint and achievable fabrication size. I can't even imagine trying to build a system using these designs that would even look remotely modern. This is the very reason why Safeguard was deactivated. It's radars would likely be blind during an attack. Either by Soviet HEMP detonations or from it's own warheads. You're the one with incomplete information.

  • @dieselscience "X-band is yesterday's news". I have a term for you to look up, "Non sequitur".

  • @Nater245689 The Patriot system is just that. THAAD is a multi component system. To say it's a missile is the same as calling a service pistol and radio "the police department." If you are not familiar with what else is going on, don't blame others.

  • @DrMotorDude I didn't say THAAD was a missile, but then again I wasn't completely clear. The whole system, capability-wise, is an upsized Patriot PAC-3. There are differences, but they're not that great if you're not going into technical details.

  • @DrMotorDude Highly scripted means exactly what it says. It means they know there will be a launch and it's heading before hand. They don't use penaids that could confuse the track and targeting systems. This is vastly simpler than using the system in an actual war scenario. Apparently your 20 years in the military had nothing to do with this sort of thing. That's like me saying I'm an expert on casting aluminum because I've been in manufacturing x number of years. It doesn't add up.

  • @Nater245689 OOOOOHHHH!!! My bad, I didn't know I was dealing with a self taught space shuttle door gunner. Go ahead and explain it too us, Billy Badass.

  • michio is the next einstein

  • Michio Kaku is awesome! This man has alot of wisdom. Peace!

  • fantastic guy.

  • lol
