His name comes from the tree in norse mythology. In fact, a lot of the names in the game come from mythology. Ymir is a norse god, Ifreet is a fire genie , and Ratatosk is the name of the squirrel that lives on the Yggdrasil tree. The tree itself is the world tree, it supprots the world and everything on it. Or something like that. There's more but I can't remember them right now. I'm sure you can look most names up on Wikipedia.
