  • Just a master of the guitar always a pleasure to watch him and listen

  • You know he auditioned for the "Monkees" and got passed over......Thank God for that!

  • The voice may have getting older it still moves me a lot, Mr Stills is such a wonderful artist !

  • I've loved this man for many years. His music, his soul. The combination of his multiple influences, his writing skills, his dedication, the love of his craft and guitar prowess; is quite astonishing and deserves respect and admiration. A true guitar virtuoso. He gives me strength. I certainly hope he plays for as long as he can. Thank you for the music.

  • Goosebumps for this fearless amazing rendition. bravo man

  • I don't know what was in the Water around Gainsville Fl in the 40's and 50's put look what that area produced in Talent. Stephen Stills,Gregg and Duane Allman,Tom Petty,Bernie Leadon and Don Felder. Just simply amazing.

  • Can watch this like ten times in a row. One of the best musicians of our time.

  • Stephen Stills and Neil Young defined my generation. And they just keep getting better. Wish that could be said for the rest of us!

  • Graham Nash said this was one of the greatest songs ever written. Stephen wrote or co-wrote Suite:Judy Blue Eyes, Wooden Ships, Love The One You're With and For What It's Worth - all considered some of the best works ever and each on various top 100 lists. Jim Messina calls Stephen his guitar hero and this from a guy who played some with Clapton. If you've seen Stephen/CSN live he can absolutely captivate and own an audience. The guy is absolutely a musical genius.

  • The guitar work is fabulous. His voice has lost something over the years. He sounds great, but not as great as he used to.

  • @christhee68 People are getting older. Neil Young got the same problem. They were so good in the late sixtees and early seventees and it`s hard for them to reach this level again. But in this case it`s great. One of the best songs ever written.

  • My young girls heart so loves you.....

  • I love this man! They are too few these days.

  • One of the greatest.!!!!!!

    .....

  • that man is a Tree Top Flyer....

  • Just amazing

  • i keep watching this over and over - completely brilliant

  • So beautiful I had to play it three times. May the Great Spirit bless you Stephen! thank you for uploading this !

  • almost speechless...this is brilliant - thank you for uploading this

  • This is incredible thank you for uploading :)

  • That Mr. Stills sure handles that guitar good, don't he? Add to that,,an absolutely piercing tenor resplendent with the ironic confidence of one who has tasted sorrow and loss yet remained steadfast in his conviction of the sheer possibility of ones redemption and love in this ever constant world of strangers.

  • absolutely incredible

  • everyone get the stills essential , called roll tape , post judy collins session , and after many beers , gave a wad of cash to the engineer and recorded , lost for 40 years , now discovered and available , you wont be sorry , pick it up ,

  • Stephen is the MAN!! A big soul!!!!

  • One of the most inspirational singer, song writer, guitarist of a generation. Still serving it. Long may he run!!

  • This is a great video. I adore Steve Stills. I had forgotten he was in Buffalo Springfield. Thank you for the reminder, zer. (Can't tell if that's zerfrat or zertrat, Granny's eyes are old.)

  • i wouldnt say rusty, more like "lived in"

  • His voice has been a little more rusty..

But that does'nt bother me and should'nt bother anyone else..

He's got so much charisma and all the great music was made back then..

  • A dear friend of mine introduced me to CSN recently (too many years too later, but better late than never)

The harmonies on the original are out of this world.

And now Stephen's voice sounds....totally different,...but still sublime.

  • He is one of the first musicians I LEARNED what that meant, he was very young and Brilliant, He has grown with age.He can and will stand with time, as one of the finest.

  • Stephen Stills has been my man for 40 years. Keep doin it man.

  • God bless.. hope you are able to stick around and see the age of Aquarius.. peace peace peace

  • Jesus this is awesome. His voice is rugged, but yet he knows how to exactly modulate it, with a sort of intimacy. Tough and true all along. Hope I had an uncle like him. God Bless ya Stephen!

  • thats awesome heard about it

  • saddens me to see him growing old like this, I salute you stephen!

  • @corelonia

why saddens you? to the contrary (and sorry) gladdens me, instead dont you think?

    TY

  • he is a rock*

  • It's 3:45 in the morn.and I'm on my laptop, the magic of Stills voice

fills my head, suddenly I am back at 1449 Studebaker Road, 16 years old and my whole life is ahead of me.

With out music there would be no past.

    Stills voice is magic

  • Stills. His voice is better than that of the great vocalists Crosby and Nash. He wrote the majority of the great songs. Of course he is The Guitarist. I guess i'm motivated to post because few seem to know Stills. Somehow, he comes out as the least of the group, even though he was the most. The central figure musically. Great work in the 90s and 00s, too. Stills Alone, Jimmy Rogers All Stars Blues, Man Alive.

  • Wow. Stills formed Buffalo Springfield and could have called it the Stephen Stills Band. He started CSN and could have called it the Stephen Stills Band. Stephen started Manassas and could have called it the Stephen Stills Band.Few people really understand who is the driving force. Or Stephen Stills can do it by himself a zilliion years later live and bring you to your knees. I love his "Man Alive" album.

  • @zertrat

One of the best comments I've read on youtube. Stills is often overlooked when discussing the greatest musicians of the 60's and 70's. He played with many of the greats, and was always as good or better than any of them.

And ya, he's just as good now as he ever was. This was a fantastic performance.

  • @zertrat none of these bands were Stills and he was never as good as when he was near Crosby and Nash.. .These guys are good by themselves but they're truly great together: the perfect blend of energy and finesse, not to mention their unique vocal sound!

  • He looks good, when did this air?

  • 10-15-09

  • Oh it's good to see him sounding better than he has in recent years.....I was watching a documentary tonight about Neil Young and was profoundly shocked at how badly he slurring his words.....what the hell was going on? Stroke? Alcohol? I'd heard he'd had cancer..was that it? Whatever it was it was heartbreaking, cos I'd always thought he was the straight guy from CSNY\..he was the last guy I'd expected to have sobriety problems\

  • @maxeythecat

He definitely was the "straight man" of the group!

But, as a Southern man... the older they get... the sloppier their speech becomes.

(Especially if they did drugs, drank a lot, had a stroke, or fought the demon cancer!)

I've seen this in many musicians.

Yet, we listen to the voice and watch those hands make that magic music.

He did always have a Southern accent... but, it seems a little heavier these days.

    Gotta love the music!

  • @maxeythecat The cocaine certainly lowered his voice but the slurred speech and singing is due to him being nearly completely deaf. He seems to find it easier to stay in tune when it's just him but the minute he has a full band and two other guys singing it must be really hard for him. I did read recently that Neil Young got a hold of some new discreet hearing-aids for him and he sounded quite good at the Buffalo Springfield reunion recently :)

  • beautiful : )

  • like fine wine full bodied and satisfiying. Age can't touch an Angel just a little "shopworn"

  • I'm wordlessly watching ,, awesome song , great artist , thank you for sharing

  • Umm...probably, they weren't recording this solely for guitar players...LOL

I share your pain sometimes, but it's not reasonable, I think...

  • What a wasted video. Why doesn't it focus on his two hands? This is what we need to see, not his face. All video camera men make the same mistake and focus on the face of a guitarist. How can we learn the songs by looking at his face? We need to see the hands and picking pattern.

  • makes me cry

  • sexy, fabulous voice & talent

  • That's divine.

  • Stephen you are a legend, God bless you my friend.

  • Hermosa!!!!

  • Stills has taken a beating over the condition of his voice for the past decade...THIS is the best I've heard from him in a long time...AWESOME
