We stayed in Hawaii in a hotel that overlooked the Ala Wai Canal (you could look out the window and see it) in 1985 because we got a settlement from a car accident and we got a good deal on the travel prices. We stayed at the Aston Hawaiian Monarch. Does anybody know if this hotel is still there? I always try and find it on the internet and I can't. It had a picture of a king painted on the hotel outside. We also could walk to the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center and walk down Duke's Lane.
they made it look alot nicer than when i was a kid going to Ala Wai Elementary. there was also no fence when i was a kid so you could run to the canal from my classroom.
I love to sit along side the Ala Wai and feed the Tilapia. A bag of crunched up pretzels sends those fish into a frenzy. Just got back from Waikiki two weeks ago. I also see balloon fish and Barracuda in that canal as well.
