Even if you "sequester" the carbon from burning the coal, you still have to mine for it. Were you paying attention when central Tennessee was nearly killed by coal mine sludge?
Clean coal doesn't exist. Wind, Solar, Hydro, Geothermal, Tidal, Current, Biomass... Those are clean and exist right now. We have the technology for them. Stop wasting out time and money on useless crap.
Besides that, Coal will run out, those others... they won't.
So where is the intelligence in focusing on "Clean Coal?" It currently doesn't exist. Solar & wind DO. But the more important difference is that Solar & wind DON'T RUN OUT! Why would you invest in a technology that to use a limited resource, when we already have the technology to use an UN-limited resource?
Think about how it relates to supply and demmand. Unlimited resource = cheap. Limited resource = expensive.
And finally, consider strip mining to harvesting wind or solar.
Well, I would hate the coal power plants in Kansas, where I live. NONE of the energy will go to my state, ALL of the polution, and we don't even get money from exporting it. Meh, what a rip-off.

Who really wants a coal plant in their communities? So electricity can be a tad cheaper, and we can have the same air quality as Beijing, China?
There is no such thing as clean coal (hint: its a marketing strategy). There are truly clean alternatives, so why not focus on those?
