@afshin021 The US was a republic and our founding fathers warned us of too much democracy, which is a flawed system. In a republic the law the is above all, in a democracy it isnt. A democracy should be the stepping stone to reinforce the republic, not the other way around. There are really no nations right now that have good systems that work. All products and services can be provided by private businesses at higher quality and lower cost than by government, and this includes security services such as police and courts. The ideal society is one without government, where free people interact with each other on the basis of voluntary contract.
They don't have to agree on one thing, in a private market for security everyone would choose how much security/insurance they want. Since everyone pays directly, a system would develop that protects property rights and ignores victimless "crimes".

What's unfortunate is that it took an actor in the 1980s to save an economy. It was his charisma that got him elected, and the country got lucky. Unfortunately, electing a world leader on the basis of charisma is hit or miss. Sometimes you get Ronald Reagan...and sometimes you get the guy with the scary mustache. I can't agree that he tries to "convince" anyone of anything, he asserts that the constitutional principles laid out by the founders namely sound non-fiat money, a non-interventionist foreign policy, protecting civil liberties and private property have been systematically abandoned more or less by every ensuing government since they were created.

@afshin021 The US was a republic and our founding fathers warned us of too much democracy, which is a flawed system. In a republic the law the is above all, in a democracy it isnt. A democracy should be the stepping stone to reinforce the republic, not the other way around. There are really no nations right now that have good systems that work. @afshin021 eh, the scandinavians i know all come from families that have businesses, which hate it because they cannot earn very much. They are capped at certain profit levels and therefore dont bother trying to progress, which is why they are trying to leave. Australia's system isnt bad, but its not good either. Sure some are better than others, but things could be better, especially if we looked at how the early Greeks operated.

Why is government essential? All products and services can be provided by private businesses at higher quality and lower cost than by government, and this includes security services such as police and courts. The ideal society is one without government, where free people interact with each other on the basis of voluntary contract.

The problem is that the Fed prints money, thus devaluing the money that you, I, and everyone else has. Ron Paul doesn't want the government to spend that much money either.
Without the Fed, the government can get its money from foreign governments, savings bonds, or private banks. That's what they did before the Fed.

The main ones are insurance coverage and tax breaks. Well, there should be no laws saying what kind of family plan an insurance carrier can offer (and many offer same sex family plans) and taxes.... The federal income tax was to be REPEALED as soon as the war it was to pay for was over, it is in fact ILLEGAL.
