i've got dura ace 7900 and it is usually very good. better coming down the chainring than up though, especially in the lower 2 gears. it's been adjusted but it's never perfect. in fact, i've never had perfect gearing. this looks like the solution and will be on my next bike.
It doesn't justify changing from mechanical to this. Maybe when they figure out how to use the pedaling motion or wheel spin for power and loose the battery... Even then it would probably be heavier. I only see this getting use on TT bikes but even then most TT bikes have internal cable routing.
The offical release states that once the battery runs out (if you ignore it of course) the gears are left as is and you cannot manually overide them. You MUST use the electronic sensors to adjust gears and so there is no manual overide.
Very expensive toy in my opinion.
I will stick with Campag. Smooth and trustworthy.
What else would it do? There is no mechanical "manual" shifting, it's all electronic, so of course you can't manually overide if the battery runs out. But if you don't recharge your battery, what the hell do you expect??
You lose front derailleur first and then after a while you lose the rear, so you get a sort of warning once you no loner have front shifting, and its a long warning like 500km worth of shifting on the rear left.
How hard is it to shift your gears? I mean, it's cool as a luxury, but you don't really need it. Today's regular dura ace already shifts well. Why would you need a electronic one? To me, it will not catch on.
@dahgutone Consider it more like a paddle shift system like in a Ferrari or the Nissan GT-R to keep the Japanese theme. It isn't necessary but it is technically superior.
So what if Im riding in a closely knit pack of riders who are also using this system? Will my de-railer(s) activate when a rider close beside me shifts?
I'm glad you think my band is funny and witty but actually what I mean't was that the system is not wireless so there isn't going to be a problem like the one you mentioned.
campy for twice the price and they copied The casette, ramped cogs, pickup teeth on chainrings, combining the shifter with the brake lever. lots of other things.
It's so sad that none of the parts in DA 7900 match each other in finish. I started out riding Ultegra, then moved to DA, then moved to Record, and now on Sram Red and finally happy.
The thing that impresses me is that its got a sensor for cross chains..
It recognizes that there will be chain rub and moves the front D to accomidate the chain rub

Whether I'll need it or not, I'll definitely purchase it if I have money.

All the people complaining about Di2 have obviously never ridden it. My advice - try it out and then see if your criticism holds out.

I was demonstrated the system and was quoted that once you shift with this system, all other mechanical systems feel obsolete.
I've yet to try it out.

Sometimes you just have to ride with different rpm's
Your bicycle can't decide for you..

@dahgutone its not going to catch cuz it cost more then most fat asses are willing to spend on an entire bike.

Only if he presses your shifter instead of his!

Are you trying to tell me that each set uses a different signal frequency, or that I only ride in packs of guys?
hwygti 3 years ago
Oh I get it, you don't have any real 'know-how' so your making up for that by trying to be witty and funny; like your band.
