I'm not really impressed with the techniques. Yamada Sensei's delivery with all do respect, doesn't seem as effortless as I'm use to. It's seems as if there's too much upper body strength going on. He doesn't focus on posture which makes it harder to control uke. Also, the person attacking in this video could practice a little more on where both Shomenuchi and Yokomenuchi comes from. He knows how to fall,
but could use more training on how to feel the techniques.
Whatever the individuals approach to Aikido..... Yamada Sensei has compiled a series of video that any student of any level can gain from, be it technique or priciples of Aikido they studying. The verbal interaction with the viewer was minimal, yet clear and concise and the clarity of the demonstration speaks for itself. A superb aid for any student of Aikido
Technique is great, balans superb, ukemi is great, but I'm not completely impressed by the attacks. They seem a bit half hearted, not real strikes. No shinken spirit.
The reason for the slowness of the attacks is intentional. It is a video series that is meant as a teaching aid and Sensei was trying to show the techniques clearly so the viewer can learn.
Sorry for the delayed response. It is not only about the speed of the attack, this I completely agree upon. But donovan's shomen uchi attack is not really a cutting strike is it? It's more of a push. As with the yokomenuchi strike he is only striking using the elbow joint. There is no hara begind the strikes. This is irrespective of speed. Yamada Sensei's techniques could not be clearer though.
@AikikaiAikido i want to learn aikido because, this is the bestest martial arts for me.. i love aikido moves seems just like dancing. and i dont want hurt people using this.. i want to learn it to be a master too and not a fighter... from phils. sorry for bad english...mabuhay po kayo!
