Actually Moon Festival is Vietnamese. The real story goes that the legend of Cuội and the banyan tree. The banyan tree helped to cure medicine and Cuội told his wife to water the tree everyday. Seeing as Cuội cared more for the tree than his wife, she got angry and urinated on it. The tree then flew up to the moon along with Cuội. Every year, on the mid-autumn festival, children light lanterns and participate in a procession to show Cuội the way to Earth.
@xxHighChiefxx "The real story"? You're joking right? As if any of these stories actually make sense. Magic pee that makes trees fly and a planet somehow circling ten stars. If anything it shows the ignorance of our ancestors. At least they were creative though, right?
@tastybrain The magic Banyan tree was very sacred and could only take in clean water. As his wife, whom was being neglected by Cuoi urinated on the tree to make her point. It is a small legend that was the origin of the Moon Festival. Also the harvest that left parents worrying about their crops than their children was another reason for the origin. Most likely the story was changed as the Chinese started to copy the idea of the Moon Festival and adapt Vietnamese culture into Chinese.
Cut the crap about her accent, please ! Those who have no hearing problems will understand all she is saying, and those who want to hear it. Let's do it this way, you all go to China, and try learning chinese there. I bet your accent will be far worse than that. In fact, when i watch videos of some"laowai" speaking mandarin, it is very ewwwww
There are many, many, MANY versions of this story. In some of them (yes, they are Chinese versions), Houyi is sort of considered a 'bad' guy, and some Chang'e is the 'bad' one.
the story is incorrect. actually Houyi is a loving guy and hero and chang'e is his wife. if they share the pill they will live forever, if one take the whole pill will become angel in heaven. actually there is a bad guy try to rob the pill when houyi was out and Chang'e take the pill, she became a lonely moon god while Houyi was murdered after.
Very informative, we watched this in my Chinese class today. We laughed when the narrator said "And he liked to kill." It was just perfect how Hou li killed the farmer and it matched with the words.
Yea, but somehow when I recorded a couple of people reading the story, the stronger accent just seemed to add validity and a "story that's been passed along" kinda feel. Thanks for watching!
Especially this version

Yeah, I thought Hoyi is a good guy. Is this a distorted Western version of the story?
I heard many versions, but this is the first that Hoyi is a bad guy/ Besides the story is questionable, the Animation is real cool!

It is still superstition and old wives tale. Why bother? Why even give validity to it, by commenting on it.

the accent is so thick that I really can't understand what she is saying. Other than that, nice story.
