YOUR A GREAT GUY COLIN , I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU AS A PERSON BRO...YOU ARE A GREAT CARETAKER OF THE LAND....IN MY OPINION , THE MOST VALUABLE SKILL A BUSHCRAFTER CAN HAVE......SEMPER FI!!
Well done and lucky that you came along to take of it, some forest users are just twats, again well done to you and pal on sorting it out and showing proper respect of the enviorment that you use. As posted by others hopefuly pple will take more care after seeing this vid.
i hate saying this to a buddy but dirt does a great job of putting out coal's it;s just like using water in a wierd way, starve the fire of oxygen and it goes right out! good vid tho you did alot of work . gotta love your respect for the land!
@Killahofosho Well the ground was burning and it was full on pine needles so we thought it best to get some water. Thanks my friend, I always appreciate your support, take care.
It's disheartening that people leave embers unattended. All it does is make more bloody problems for the responsible blokes. keep up the good work mate, maybe people will make better decisions after watching this.
Yes, in Russia's because of these irresponsible people, there were many fires around Moscow. Then all the people in the city because of this suffering. Yes, many people not to understand that their picnics can burn wood.
You Colin fellow, we were able to extinguish it. Nice to see it. More would be people like you!
Very important thing to show and thank you for it!
A lot of folks don't realize that even though a campfire appears to be out on the surface, roots can still be smoldering underneath for days or weeks especially in loose woodland soil, and indeed start surface fires some distance away.
Even careful people can make this mistake. Solid fire bases can be very hard to find or build in the woods but are extremely important.
Jesus! That fire pit is like 5 to 6 feet in diameter! Seriously? Were they cremating someone? There is no excuse for a fire ring of that size. I don't know how many times I have come across crap like this. I watched my favorite wilderness go up in flames about 3 years ago and hundreds and hundreds of acres were completely destroyed. The cause was an idiot who did not put out his campfire. Now I will never get the chance to hike a trail that has now been perminently closed. U saved your forest!
@CrazyTaileZ Thanks my friend, sorry to hear about your favourite wilderness burning down. It sure is a shame that some people don't take pride in the land we all enjoy.
Well done, the best way would be to dig it out first then soak it,and also rip some bark off a dead tree the same size as the bucket, and place on top of the water, this stops it splashing about when your carrying it.
and you should leave a note, maybe they are just stupid and need teaching.
I've had to do the same. Went to a camp site where the pine roots were burning underground 20" from the old camp fire. Took two hours lots of digging and many buckets of water to fully extinguish. I'm still angry about it 10 years later..
@FriarTuck1961 Well done for persevering, its a shame when we encounter these smouldering fires but its worth while to take the time to put them out. Thanks my friend
@Faiscar11 Thank you my friend, well it hadn't rained in a few days and most of the ground was covered in pine needles, so it was pretty flamable. Water would be the best thing for the job but if that wasn't possible I would phone the Fire Service.
im a yank from the states but i still would have called the fire department to report it so those ass holes can at least be on record what site they at. good vid and good on you guys for puttin in out. looks like it took some work but good on you guys...
@playdrums Yeah its a shame that it was left like that. Its fortunate that we found it. It sure was tough carrying those buckets with water from down at the stream to the woods a couple of times, We sure were tired after it, but it was a worthwhile job. Thanks my friend, take care.
@SNAFU111999 Yeah its a shame it was left in that state, I think it had been like that for a few days and fortunately it hadn't caused more damage. Thanks my friend
Nice work Colin, it's good to know that some of us will clear up after other fools. So far over the years we've come across some messy camps, litter left strewn about and we've had to take that back to our camp and burn it, but so far we've never come across a smouldering fire.....some people realy do spoil it for us guys.
@spannernuts Thanks mate, yeah the surprising thing was it was free from litter and looked like it was used often. But I am glad we found it and hopefully managed to prevent any further damage.
@ColinOutdoors Free from litter because they burnt it lol.....but joking aside it's realy bad show for us guys to be wanting to do our pastime and then get fools spoiling it for us.
@spannernuts Very true, it unfortunately means that land access can sometimes be hard to get because the landowners just don't want this mess on their land and a few silly people can spoil it for the rest.
It's the peeps who do this that make a bad name for the likes of us who respect the outdoors and LNT Leave No Trace. Good for showing this example and frigging lucky you guys came across it and considered doing what you did, respect to you m8ee
@MINDWISEMAN Thanks my friend, yeah it was very fortunate that we came across this today. Hopefully showing this can teach the Leave No Trace to some new people to the outdoors.
@Waldhandwerk Thank you Sepp. Yeah it was a very bad summer for Russian wildfires. It serves as an example of just how deadly and destructive they can be. Prevention is better that cure.
If it wasn't for guys like you others wouldn't have woods like that to use. Some people just don't understand when we say leave nothing but tracks. Good job.
Could you do a video on camp fire safety in different types of areas? For example how to build a fire in the forest and not set all of the trees on fire and how not to leave behind a situation like you came across.

@jolietjake1970 It sure was alot of work lol. Those buckets of water were heavy. but well worth it as you say, and hopefully it doesn't happen again. Thanks my friend, I really appreciate your support
we've got alot of pine in the woods in and about the pasture, it is really dangerous burning around them for sure. when I was young I remember a neighbor starting a forest fire by burning paper in a barrel, and when the little flying embers came out it lit the dead fall needles stuck in a pine and just began roaring. @tamww Yes, that may be true, however you need to build up your strength for the forthcoming activities. That is why you carry the heavier bag also :-)
Collin...We're going to have to get you a Smokey Bear award. Great job!! Nice to see responsible outdoorsmen taking the time and making the effort to do the right thing!
@BrewByU Thank you my friend, it was quite a bit of work to get it put out but it had to be done, it is fortunate that we managed to find it. It was my friends curiosity to go and look at a blue tarp he spotted from a distance. I am glad he went to investigate and we could help prevent a major fire.
@Vhammer2010 Yeah I agree, its very frustrating when you see this, I think it had been going for a few days at least, yeah a bathroom break would of been useful but I doubt I could of posted that on YT :-)
Great save and good advice Colin, if only more people were as vigilant as you in the woods, there would be a lot less forest fires.
