@hackersrule1 but at the beginnning of a chapter, tommo's like "The court marshal said that private peaceful was to die on the morning of June 25, 1916
just finished reading private peaceful cried at the end sooo sad!!!!!
i feel so sorry for the little boy who lost his father i can imagine big joe singing oranges ang lemons over and over in the church i really want to know what happens after the war ends and hes at home with molly and everyone cant michael m make another book .......
loved it though she did miss a bit off the end all the samexxxxxgreat book great as a movie:))
That was the most beautiful book I had ever read! My sixth grade english teacher let me borrow a copy and it was so beautiful and amazing! I loved it.
actually she is singing the original rhyme for you see they changed it to that candle part due to the original nursery rhyme was to hard for most if not all children to remember...look this crud if you dont believe me
The verse about the candle and the chopper were not part of the original. The original second verse was about more churches: something about pancakes and fritters say the bells of St Peters. Cannot remember all the second verse. And by the way, the original title was Noranges and Lemons, not Oranges and Lemons. The fruits that we now call oranges were previousely called noranges.
The original version never had the chop off your head bit , it was added later when children got all morbid . It was likely added when the bells were ringing during the proccesion from Newgate prison to the gallows at Tyburn.
Good point though acromiton - looking back at it. 'You youtube people' - dont think that you arent in that selection of people too., - you have more uploads than me matey boy.
This is aweful! It seems that the people who recorded this song were completely ignorant to the fact that this nursery rhyme is talking about the bells that ring for those who were about to be exectued in the various boroughs of London. - Hence the ' Chop of your head bit ' that has been tactfully left out at the end. Who would dare play this tat to their child? - Sing them the real thing with come conviction, understanding and sensitity the the origins of the story at least!
almost all nursery rhymes are about murder, death, sex, or something like that. just look at jack and jill, or rock a bye baby. all nursery rhymes are, are the contempory music of the day, back then that is. and contempory music is never clean.

Taken out of context, for example this song doesnt mean anything, The same would apply if you were to play 50 cent to someone in london 100 years ago - they just wouldnt understand. Similary, the Child Ballads dont really mean much now.
