how can i fix my washer cause its not spinning and the belt keeps coming off got a new one and it does the same thing? i just taken it apart and cleaned the stuff in side and ugh its not working!
@kansasthunderman1 , Are you blind? There's plenty of water and soap in the tub to coat the clothes. That's all that's needed. What I think is stupid is the how fast the transmission switches the rotation of the tub. It's not necessary or more effective.
I am in love with this version of the Neptune washers. My aunt and uncle bought one years ago brand new and I have loved it since. I want it from them.
I owned a mah3000 all revised parts, Somehow the motor control board went lasy on it, Well I found some guy selling a mah4000 washer and dryer for $45 on craigslist for both! He said the washer always quit on the rinse cycle and thought it was shot, I bought them both in mint conidtion, Brought them hom and found the screens on the solenoids were dirty, Cleaned them, And as it goes stripped my old washer down for parts and put the $45 set in my house and perfect they work! There also revised.
OK...question. why is it if you hand spin the tub in a Neptune, either before or after the tub is loaded, you can hear water sloshing around but you can't see it. What's the deal with that?
This is so fucking awesome... I have always stuck something in the switch to watch my clothes being washed... I can now just watch this... Thank you so much for posting this!!!!
main board - rectifier IR2101 - cracked in half and blew a resistor just below the rectifier. This caused teh machiene to never enguage the motor - no spin - the pump worked and could be coaxed to fill and empty and advance the timer Abut never engauges the motor. This happened to my neptune and I do not know why. I replaced the IR2101 and the 24ohm 4 band resistor (red yellow brown gold) - soved the problem but why did it occure? anyone know?
hey there - i replaced my tub I found another washer the same as mine that had been disgaurded because of the boards being fried in it. I removed the tub and could see that the motor and tub and bearings and even the belt were like new - I replaced the tub. seems like there should be lube though. does anyone know if the hole above the center of teh pully is for lube? Like white grease or ? still seems loud to me. i dont want this one to go out. what a lot of work!
This wash action looks pretty good, even for a new fangled front loader. Hopefully it's not a maintenance nightmare, like so many of these new style engineered washers have proven to be.
The topline models in europe have spin speeds between minimum 1400 and 1800 But I think they have a smaller basket diameter. these maytags spin quite poor. With 800 rpm in europe the salesman wouldn't even advise you tou use a dryer along with such a washer. But energy doesn't matter in the US anyway :-)
@Muhlineks The slowest you would get in europe (specificly for me the UK) is 1000RPM. Top Top end washers spin at upto 2000RPM. The average is about 1400 RPM.
Drum size is typicly 3.5Cubic Feet, Also recent "American/Korean" style front loaders have given bigger drums.
The average size is 5/6kg. The biggest so far is 11/12kg. Top ends are typicly 8/9kg. Modern European washers also now have similer computing as aisain washers (e.g LOTS)
@iwatchfunny , That's because for some reason the USA is not as energy conscious. Perhaps it's because we haven't been through as many wars and holocausts, so we don't what really matters
@SpazChat lol doubtful, its because we've always had less resources, and, we don't have as many clothes to wash as are american counterparts so we dont need such big machines... but to be fair i love my shiny LG 9KG Steam washer, which is an american style side loader (HUGE) and is made in Korea. Plus we rarly have matching dryers, so my laundry system is rare in europe (yay for matching dryers! ^-^)
@iwatchfunny , Well thanks for explaining. Being a Californian American who hasn't had the opportunity to travel much, although I have been to Europe, I wouldn't have known the answer. I have tons of clothes. I'm poor and have 30 shoes, 6 coats, 20 dress shirts, 100 tee shirts. I don't know where all this stuff came from. I just like fashion. So yeah, I could never see having a tiny washer. It wouldn't make sense in my household.
@SpazChat Just to confuse you even more most UK houses have the washers in the kitchen, and do not have a seperate laundry room. Thats why UK machines are smaller but also have more "style" to them rather than a white metal box :P
@iwatchfunny , I'm not really confused,I just find the difference in logistics, caused by difference in cultures interesting. Americans (USA and Canada) don't like washers in their kitchen, because we don't want underwear skid marks mixed in with our eggs and toast. There's an ewww factor there that most Americans can't stomach. And what do clothes have to do wtih cooking? Something seems quite incongruent there. It's like having a weight room in the kitchen to us.
@iwatchfunny , It might be something that is becoming a trendy new fad, but that it will remain. Most people just think it's weird in USA to have laundry machines in the kitchen Ya know, it's kind of like having a toilet in the living room...If our washers/dryers are not in a laundry room, they're put in the garage, basement or outside. Most middle class homes these days in USA have separate laundry rooms, they're small, but adequate.
@iwatchfunny , Yeah, but you guys are happier and more sane and don't have the multitude of silly hang-ups that we do. I wish I were born in Western Europe.
It (the Maytag Neptune) is more than interesting, it is *fabulous*! It is not without problems, though. It has the famed "mold-issue" and a short-lived tub bearing issue and a door-latch-actuation issue and a motor controller issue... these shortcomings were addressed, in time, but not in time to salvage the reputation of a very well intentioned and designed machine... a perfect example of "bean-counters" killing the work of engineers! I am an engineer and love the elegant design!
continuing -- yes, I do own one, a MAH4000AWW model. I did replace all the issue-items I cited, the door boot with drain-tube is the answer to the mold, the updated wax-motor solves the "wax-motor/Q6/R11" issue, replacement bearings and seal before they failed will assure me another 10 years of rotational silence... The Neptune has a large capacity and the huge load "porthole"".
I own this very same model. Best washer I've ever had, except for the mold issue and incomplete tub drain issue. I completely missed out on the class action suit over this washer so I was wondering if you knew how these problems are corrected, if at all. (e.g. Door boot with drain tube) Thanks!
I bought new door boot, it has provision for the drain tube. Next I ordered the drain tube and related parts (a spacer and two clamps). The front outer tub cover on mine had a "nipple" that could be drilled to accept the drain tube. Assembly is straightforward. I am not familiar with incomplete tub drain, I must admit. Unless you refer to the standing water in the boot...
Thanks for the quick reply. On the "incomplete tub drain", there IS standing water somewhere. You just can't see it. After a cycle, you could manually rotate the drum and hear sloshing water from somewhere. I attributed the mold problem to this ever-present water. Though I'm not sure that's the case. I haven't yet disassembled the machine, but now I'm forced to, as the washer has stopped spinning. You can hear the motor, but no action. Just trying to help out my ex on this.
Yes, as was already noted, that "sloshing" is the fluid balancer fluid... it is sealed-in and is not left-over wash water (I hqd initially thought it was retained wash water for balance)
So-far, yes. The new boot is (supposedly) of a new material, but buying the drain tube components (I ordered mine online at "sears.com") does alleviate the standing water in the boot. You will have to drill the left-hand "nipple" on the outer-drum-front-cover to connect the drain tube. This routes boot-water into the outer drum and hence drain-pump intake. I also highly recommend you download the service manual for the Neptune front loader...

@Notorious346 no you can do it with out replacing the tub gotta take the washer to pieces and seperate the drum and tubs then after you have dont the bearings gotta put it all back to gether
This is a Front Loader, there was also a Top Load version called the TL, which, instead of an agitator, two impellers rotate it in a front load manner, only in one direction.
I've always wanted to see one of these in action! The only shots i've seen are the ones maytag had on there website when they came out! Would love to see more!!
Nice Ben, thanks for letting us see what goes on. I have one too. Good to see the rather high wash water level compared to the more frugal machines out there today. I think the rinses are done at an even higher level.
the tub is tilted 30 degrees so the clothes are held towards the back of the machine...i used to have one of these machines,,,love the jet sound during spin ramp up

marina5595 3 weeks ago
As usual, it doesn't use enough water and the clothes just get balled up.
With that 800 RPM spin, the bearings had better not go out or the whole washer will be thrown the wall literally!!!

@02chevyguy That's the liquid in the balance ring, it helps smooth out the spin cycle and balance the tub in case of poor clothes distribution.
