This is the most educational film or special I have ever seen regarding autism. It discusses many aspects including potential causes, social barriers, educational and learning methods. Temple Grandin was fantastic and explains so well why people with autism act as they do. This film educates the public regarding autism, and shows them that children with autism are of the same intelligence as the general public, they just need a way to communicate.
A very well done documentary which is very informative about autism. It shows life with autism, it's many different manifestations and what is being done in research and treatments. What I really like about the film is that they show there is no miracle solution. It actually explores a multitude of solutions, ABA, RPM and the work at Specialisterne in Denmark to name a few. Those of us that know autism first hand are frightfully aware that there is no miracle, only hope and hard work.
Excellent documentary. Autism isn't all about what foods not to eat or how to cure Autism. This film shows different methodologies people have used for not just the high functioning, but the more extreme cases of Autism. They are finding ways to give those children a means of communication. Temple Grandin is fabulous at explaining the neurological and sensory processing aspects of Autism. I was so encouraged by the end of the film. Kudos to those who put together such a fabulous film!
My brothers is autism and it would be great to learn more about him, and I'm quite lucky that I'm normal at times I feel sorry for autistic kids cuz their so misunderstood
I wish that I could have seen this movie as I am told by my son's teacher that my son and classmate are in it. I just found out recently about this movie and not having HBO makes it difficult to find. Either way I can can tell you that having a child with Autism is extremely exhausting, saddening, and lonely but yet it is also filled with so much joy that it is hard to describe. I still have written on my calendar the first time he said "because"!
I saw this film a few months ago. It was so good - it made me cry. Having worked with children with autism before, I always knew they had more in them. Thank you for making a great documentary that will hopefully change the world's view on autism.
Thank you KilikaMusic as I am the father of an autistic child. I probably spend more time with my daughter than anyone else but I could never do it alone. It really takes a village. And yes thank God for HBO and for airing this show. For those of you haven't seen it you can find it on HBO on Demand or it will air again on 4/28
Thanks for posting this. As a parent of an autistic child I can attest that caring for someone with autism both overwhelms your previous levels of stamina and propels you to new and better things that you could have never imagined. I wish HBO would have named this Parent's Courage since fathers are just as involved and important in this situation. Let us all remember though that whether or not a "cure" is ever found, each person is a child of God and equally valuable.
