Im British and lived in Seattle for 15 years. I'm from the North of England, the same area the owners of this shop are from and the baked goods they sell are very "northern" english. (good shortcrust pasty). Southern English pies and stuff tends to use Flaky or Puff Pasty. (bleah)
Needless to say, I have probably spent close to a 1000 bucks over the years here on pies, marrowfat peas, mars bars etc.....
English national food is beckon, potato, swede and green peas and some thing they called sausage but it is 40 % meat rest is a dog meat mince with kennel and nails. English people don`t know what good food mean.
@lektorlondon I might be offended by your comment if you could actually spell, use correct grammer and punctuation and didn't come across as an uneducated troglodyte parroting stereotypical viewpoints.
the true...i don't know what to write in the opinion on the video..I only do this because is for a homework of my school...but the video is interesting and somewhat tempting for the food which is shown...
I don't really wanna check all or the comment's but the thing you thought resembled a tub of scrambled egg is called an egg custard, I love them it is like a mixture of custard and egg in a tart pastry ;)
@xEmilyJoan Of course. What did I have for breakfast today? Whole grain organic toast with unsalted butter and raw honey from chile and a carrot. Snack? A pear. Lunch was a vegetable soup from last night and homemade graham crackers (yes, they do have a bit of sugar - everything in moderation).
You, my dear Emily, sound like a very bitter person.
But I wonder, what did you mean? You said, "I bet you havent even tried it but I can say one thing..." What haven't I tried?
WHY I always have a feelin´ that when I see a video of a American (talking about USA and different country) it seems that Americans always TRY to prove or SAY us that our country is NOT TOO good like USA ??!!!
@jesspodcast I actually don't know why you have that feeling. Haha, maybe it's all in your head. You think I drove 40 minutes to get British food and say it's worse than American food? American food [can be] pretty crap and processed. I tend to just cook my own. But I wasn't doing this to compare, it was merely an exploration of some things I had never tried before. Goodness -- I didn't even mention the USA in this as a comparison. I think "why" is because you're high in anxiety...
@jesspodcast Haha, ok. None taken. Just kinda random that you would do that rant on the video of a little girl trying out new food. Not sure you make complete sense yet, but that's alright... don't be so uptight next time you comment, it just gets you wound up over nothing.
I just showed my own opinion about this.Everyone has a different opinion about things or videos here on youtube.I am not one of the people here who use cuss words - in fact they are not as strong as it might seems. Say ur own opinion to face to face.
About the mistake of ur langugage indefinite article : if I would say-(I know btw)- that I know there suppose to be AN... Try to be so brave and speak our language and say for example čtvrtek .I have seen more mistakes of eng.
@jesspodcast i do was correcting your grammar as a joke because you arent from america. so calm down.. and im just expressing my opinion to you that americans dont think they are better than people in england or anywhere else in europe, we just like to show off what were grateful for and if you guys dont then thats your problem. also, i can speak words like that because iam polish and my grandfather says tons of hard to pronouce words like those.
@xEmilyJoan Reality check: The UK is nearing the same obesity rates as the US.
Also, the girl in this vid is not fat- she is a growing girl, and looks very healthy. Please bite your nasty tongue, and don't make generalizations about people. It betrays your narrow mind and poor education. It seems you really resent Americans, but we are all individuals, and I'm quite sure that not all Brits are as nasty as you are.
haha quite fun watching your evaluation of our choc. when i was in the states i liked 'ButterFinger', and the American style Twix was tastier than the Brit one I though. Reese's Pieces was my favourite
Try a Bounty yet? nice coconut taste. very addictive
@stal1ng it's really love it or hate it. really strong, almost rancid taste. it's not particularly disgusting but it's so different from anything you've ever tried before you wouldn't like it first try.
@VamboRools1: WHICH English food is rubbish. As I seriously doubt you've eaten every type. Jam sponge puddings are delicious, as is rice pudding, and other stuff.
Its an eccles cake ! haha Its filled with currants that have been simmered....and the first thing was a Sausage Roll...we eat them in Canada too !!! I think the "custard" is quiche...and Cadbury Buttons are the BEST!!! Veddy Veddy Creamy !! Girl you are fine dining !
Mince pies in America are actually made with minced meat and fruit -- I've tasted it, and it's really good. That's how mincemeat was made in Elizabethan times, and while in the US they kept the original recipe, in Britain over the years they used less and less meat and more and more fruit, until it was *all* fruit.
As late as the 70s, mincemeat contained suet, an animal fat. That was its last link with the original, and now even that's been replaced with vegetable fat.
Those buttons that you were eating are usually given to babies as their first taste of sweets/candy ..and eatten mainly by young children.
Next time get try a crunch, flake, wisper, smarties, flake and Minstels..oh and lion bar.
Also try something called salad cream..with a salad and potatos....the branston pickle is most popularly used with in a cheese sandwhich...or on top of crackers with cheese.
Hahaha what you did with the buttons I used to do with Milkybar buttons all the time as a kid! And that club bar is like a lunchbox thing not really a chocolate! You should have tried galaxy bar! They are the absolute don of chocolate! And you also should have gone to an actual British shop instead of a tourist place as they seriously overcharged you for like everything! :D Have fun exploring Britain! Our accents rock :p xxx
It was an import store... in America. Sure, they had the tourist crap. But is the only place in a couple hours drive from my house where you can purchase those British food items that are not available in the US grocery stores.
Oh sorry my bad :D You should actually come to England to experience it properly! I love (some of) your chocolate by the way! Reeses peanut butter cups! Yum! They just started selling them in Woolworths! You should definitely try Galaxy, Mars bar, Snickers, British creme eggs! (They are like double the size of your ones apparently :S) If you wanna ask anything else about England feel free :)
I would come to England in a heartbeat... aber, money is an issue. I tried to do an exchange year there, the closest I got is where I am now, Switzerland.
Yes! Those Peanut Butter cups... all I asked for Christmas was that, since Swissland has none. And every week for some 5 weeks I got a bag from some family friend or something, it was crazy.
We have Snickers n mars Bars, but the British Creme Eggs, mmm, that sounds good! Is that the name brand or the item in general?
I would come to England in a heartbeat... aber, money is an issue. I tried to do an exchange year there, the closest I got is where I am now, Switzerland.

No lol they are just called Cadbury's creme eggs lol! That would be funky though! Shame about not coming to England :( Tis a cool place! Though beware we have some rather depressing weather! Do you ever watch British TV programes? All American people I know think they are soo funny lol :D I am actually going to America next year! Woop! Anything you suggest I try (foodwise)?
Haha.. I am from Seattle, used to grey rainy weather and love it. I find it normal. And hence, would feel quite in my element.
Hmm.. food wise. not sure :P You guys tend to have what we have, but us not what you have. Just go to starbucks all the time. They are ninjas. But you have them.
British TV... defnitly! Can't think of the shows at the moment. Black Book. Monty Python. Rowan Atkinson. Forget the others.. hmm... yeah. Brits be brilliant.
Lol well they say 'no one does rain like England!' Well actually I'm not sure who says that but I just have so there we are.. Lol yeah I love British comedy too! Oh and we don't have the same food as you! Well some but not all. Our peanut butter is terrible! Also gatorade is actually illegal in England! Because it has something in it that causes cancer :O Yeah we have got starbucks! And yummy it is too! We don't have taco bell! :( I really wanna try it! Oh and waffles are made of potato here! Ox
Mince Pies are Christmas goodies. Yes the McVities range is extensive and I have to say the Plain Chocolate Digestives dunked in a cup of tea is unbelievably tasty. Can you tell I'm British? :P
MMmmm.. that actually sounds really good right now. The Swiss people currently can't even fathome the fact that I drink my tea with milk.. they find it disgusting.
I would pay some hardcore money for some McVities right now...
Good video. It was funny how you pronounced McVities lol.
The Buttons jokes aren't that funny. Adam is a boy's name obviously. Adam sounds like "had 'em", i.e. you had/ate all the buttons. The joke does make sense lol.
A digestive is a type of biscuit. The variety of bicuits here are huge. I like rich tea's best :-). You should try the orange club, there great. Plus, I've never seen that paper in my life. Our top selling papers are 'the sun' and the 'the mirror' and the top London paper is the 'evening standard'. Hope that helps your research.
Oh I forgot to mention, the Digestive biscuits have some sorta historical reason for being called that - I think it was originally believed they help the digestive system or something
Yes, they were initially marketed as being helpful to digestion. However when it was found to be untrue, it was not allowed to be called a digestive biscuit outside of the UK
Things that may interest (or bore) you: Sausage rolls are usually MUCH thinner, $1.25 (approx 61p) for a bakewell is a rip-off, I hate mince pies (and they aren't usually made with mincemeat, usually some dodgy version of 'fruit' instead, don't know why), dunno why custard tarts are called that, they taste nothing like custard. You sure they weren't milk (not dark) chocolate buttons? P.S. lots of people say 'ad instead of 'had' and 'em' instead of 'them' in UK -- hence "Adam" -- but rubbish joke
Oooh. You got some of the nicest foods! Those McVitie's are my favourite biscuits on the planet <333 Haha. The joke was lame. "What do you call a guy who's had all the buttons"... "Adam" I was like... wtf. I think they mean it like... "Had them"? XD
Branston pickle, is a pickle as I understand it. I guess relish is also a pickle. Pickle is a way of preserving food and I guess Maggie is thinking of a pickled cucumber which are just called "Pickles" in the US/canada

Oh I forgot to mention, the Digestive biscuits have some sorta historical reason for being called that - I think it was originally believed they help the digestive system or something
Superapplefrog 4 years ago
Yes, they were initially marketed as being helpful to digestion. However when it was found to be untrue, it was not allowed to be called a digestive biscuit outside of the UK

You sure? Wasn't that shop that Maggie went to a British store in the U.S.A.? And those biscuits said "digestive" on them
Superapplefrog 4 years ago
I believe so, but maybe since they are imported directly from the UK they may be able to get away with it.

I was quite more interested.. not bored at all. Thanks :P

You're welcome. Naturally the U.K. price I quoted may be entirely wrong now due to curreny fluctuation.

I meant 'an Englandian', not 'and Englandian'

ooo Englandian, I'm stealing that - I'm now (un)officially and Englandian!

It funny that the English national dish is the Curry.
We brought it back during the Empire days,I love a good curry.

Dude??? Seriouslly?? Gah! I miss curry. Here in Switzerland, their curry is sooo weak. I want some good stuff soon :P

Look for Pickle on wikipedia
