Very beautiful all of the nagi's were very beautifully preformed. And the jo I've never seen any one so fast with that weapon before. Every thing was true aiki.
Punhada comes from the word Punho means fist in the language of the Great Portuguse Poet Luis Vaz De Camoes.Punhada means Tetsui Uchi in Japanese and Hammer punch in english.
You dont know what is the meaning of Portuguese the language of PORTUGAL? Nation that discovered the passage to India and Asia before any other European.I dont smoke or drink alcoolic drinks so I dont see the sense of your question????
@punhada - this is aikido and nothing else (aikijutsu, aikidos,...) for sure. Saito sensei used to say "think your taijutsu in terms of bukiwaza and your bukiwaza in terms of taijutsu", which meant that they are both parts of the same thing. So that your question on whether the weapon or the arm is an extension of the other makes a distinction where there is no real difference in consistency of aikido.
He's quite correct. Aiki weapons is called that for a reason. The weapons excercised we use are taken from kendo Iaido Jo-do etc but they are a subset that are designed to emphasize movements in taijutsu (that is empty handed) techniques.
onegaishimasuu Eric im an kohai os master Tristao da Cunha portugal Lisbon Sensei Hitohiro will be im Portugal for an seminar 13-15June hope you will be there gambate kudasai
about the same as anything you could use on the street.........if you get cold cocked, and you're out, dont' matter what you know or can use, but that's just my opinion
This is the exact point that is missed often by many.Does not matter what Jutsu,Waza or Ryu.If we get it in the precised atemi point with the speed and power. We are out cold,Dans,Menkyos,Denshos,UFC Belts,BJJ Belts are of no use. This brings the question are we in Zanshin and or Mushin all the Time or most of the time that permit us us do do Sennosen instead that Gonosen or be KO? THE REAL SKIL IS ON THE MIND POWER SOME SAID.
Asolutely. Depending on the duration and severity of the intended ass whipping , the Aikido should be alert to an aggressive presence and calmly allow the opponents own aggression and rage to over power it self.
My advice to you is find a dojo (Google Aikido) and ask to watch a demonstration from the sensei. Good Luck
Despite what tons of people who have never tried Aikido and bad mouth it, and spend all their time watching these videos say, it is a very effective martial art on the street. The only thing is, it takes a long time to get to the level where you could use it. Something like Karate would show quicker results.
I agree with watts18269. You have to be very fast and, above all, precise. If you practice as a regular city guy would (twice a week), you would probably take several years to be able to apply the techniques right in an adrenaline situation like a streetfight.
What's that even mean? You control the frequency of your training, not your locality. But you do have a point where frequency of training is concerned.
In the long run, I think an art like Aikido is better for people. How many sixty year old guys do you know can continue high-impact training in karate, muay thai, etc., day in day out?
@KillKyleWeiss - I think you understand that the comparison between a UFC fighter and an Aikidoka does not make sense, if you mean in a street fight without rules. This is because in the street anything can happen with an assailant who goes out anything from his pocket, as Eric pointed out, and even the UFC fighter will be surprised by the vice of a non-practicing one accustomed to actual combat. Must stop with the fantasy of ultimate fighting, please...
@cirmalov ...wait, what? I have no interest in comparing any martial art to another, as I think it is totally ridiculous. This is why I was putting silly things together, like "UFC fighter vs. Borg." It's a bunch of malarkey. I also think it is possible you mistook my message for another person's. That's cool though, we're on the same page. UFC fighter vs. gravity: Gravity wins.
@pacosaidso ...I actually think that's very considerate to the training partner... their ukemi might suck, but they'll be totally relaxed the whole time... heh. Spock would be a bad-ass aikidoka.
@EricSavalli Every martial art is different and consequently every one of them have different applications for the art and for self defense. Aikido in the streets would be good when someone is attacking you with a baseball bat or a knife for example because aikido teaches you how to move and get out of the line of attack. I would like to see how a karateka blocks a knife attack without getting slashed). On the other hand karate is better for a one on one fist fight. MMA is a modern martial art
Dear @cjrllanosnj, your point makes me think there are fortunatly enough Budo to satisfy everyone according to his own motivations. Even if Aikido is efficient for many and various situations (most probably not all), it can be also a very good way for self improvement when it is part of the motivation. I would say Aikido is a long-term path that may deserve an entire life when practiced with hearth : root of budo is sharing among human beings.
Aikido is a strong defence art. But you have to have dedication in it and be ready to take a blow when you mess up. So yes, it is extremely effective in street fighting.
This is aiki-ken and aiki-jo... technics with bokken and jo as teached in Iwama (Japan) by O-Sensei Ueshiba, founder of Aikido, who practiced by many weapon based jutsu and be inspired and genius enough to design a coherent & complet martial art system (so called Iwama Ryu Aikido by his closest student Saito Sensei not to mixed it with the "usual" aikido technics teached all over the world).
Many thanks to Saito Sensei and some of his students who managed to transmit the art.
I am thinking of getting into Aikido and just wanted to know 1: just curious does it contain any strikes? 2:How much time is spent on weapons training I have many Katana because I collect them and really want to learn how to use them, and the Jo staff.
iF u wanna learn on the swords style you should go into Kendo/Iaido i saw a demonstration before and it was nice my friend told me that if u want to get into iaido which is the higher level of sword fighting u have to master kendo first
Your ignorant ass friend told you?? Ass, how bout you learn sumthing before you attempt to enlighten the rest of us w what we should do first....wtf..
Aikido has nothing to do with actual self defense or fighting. Aikido is not meant to be used in the street. People will never understand Ueshiba's teaching...their egos always get in the way.
Actually, its a variation, the original aikido way is the aikikai way, started with O'Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, continued by his son Kisshomaru, and now his grandson, actual Doshu at japan, Moriteru Ueshiba.
I think he meant this is what Aikido looked like when Morihei first founded it pre-WW2, rather than after the war when he started getting into all the ki stuff.
Aikikai not use weapon, but in Original Aikido started with O'Sensei Morihhei Ueshiba, weapons is necessary. The way of aiki is continued by Morihiro Saito Sensei in Iwama Dojo in Japan, and actualy his son Hitohiro Saito Sensei
I strongly advise all to watch any videoclip of Moriteru Ueshiba's after watching this. Then you may understand what is budo and what is not! Thanks to Eric for posting this..

Indeed, it takes a longer period of time before it becomes usable - but, contrary to karate - it often takes just one move to disable the opponent.
Most of the joint manipulation techniques found in Aikido will easily dislocate joints or break bone if applied forcefully.
elvedrano 2 years ago
Sorry for replying to an old comment but I must correct you - one of Karate's pronciples is using just one single move to disable the opponent.
