  • @4:00 hurry up and start making a track dammit

  • You know muzic I know this is a little off topic, but I hear you talk a lot about fader ports. At the risk of sounding naive, would you mind telling me what a fader port actually does

  • @foxdfive1 The Faderport is a DAW controller that makes it real easy to mix. It's a single, flying fader unit that works with just about every DAW out there. Do a search here on Youtube for the Presonus Faderport and you'll get the idea. They're around $100 and well worth it.

  • @themuzic ok so its sort of an external mixer I presume for now?

  • @foxdfive1 Um, yeah. You still sound confused, When you select a track, all of the controls for that channel now have a hardware interface you can use rather than using the mouse. That's it. If you're happy with a mouse then you may not have a need for it. Since I come from the days where all we had were faders and tape, the Faderport is nice to be able to touch the controls for a track. It also gives a Punch pedal input for punching by a tap of the foot. Again, old school but nice.

  • I dont have the Z on my channel strip, help!

  • @aalvarez9610 What audio interface are you using?

  • @themuzic Presonus Audiobox 1818

  • @aalvarez9610 The 1818 does not have this option available. None of the Presonus USB interfaces do. Only the Presonus Firestudio line of interfaces allow this. The 1818vsl has a Zero Latency option but you need to use the VSL Driver software to get zero latency.

  • i have an audiobox usb how can i rid the latency? please help

  • @MrKutta171 You need to use the "playback" knob on the front if the unit.

  • @themuzic It is a digi 002 rack. Thank you again.

  • @jjellis88 Ok, there should be a driver app for that and it should allow you to directly monitor the inputs without the DAW. Since I'm not familiar with he DIGI 002 you'll have to let me know if it has one.

  • I have Studio One software but i don't have the fire studio audio interface. Can you still help me get zero latency? Please.

    thank you

  • @jjellis88 Well, you won't be able to do this way. The process described in this video only works for the Presonus Firestudio Interfaces. The ability to get Zero Latency will truly depend on the Interface you buy. I will need to know that before I can help.

  • love it. Just ordered my second firestudio project. tracking 16 track live takes with my band this weekend. We have used Cubase in the past, but this looks dope...

  • @1warpig Ah but you need to be aware that this Zero Latency does NOT work with Firestudio Units that are chained together!!!

  • @themuzic no worries. We usually use the zero latency monitoring on the firestudio into a headphone amp.

  • @1warpig Ok, but remember it won't be an available option on either unit, if both are hooked up.

  • Hello there,

I am a new user of the Presonus FSM and Studio Artist. I`d like to add zero latency monitoring but the Z symbol does not show up in the cue section but when I hover my mouse in the area it does say "Zero Latency" nothing happens when i click on the area. This happens on both the latest version of Studio one 2 artist AND Studio one artist 1.6.5.

I`m pretty sure I know what I`m doing but that that Z just doesn`t show up.. Thanks!

  • @jonny1251 I don't believe Artist version allows the zero latency this way. That's why no "Z"

  • i did all that but the little z dosent pop up

  • @guitar0124 What Interface do you have? This only works with Presonus Firestudio boxes. The Firestudio Mobile, Tube and Project

  • @themuzic im using the presonus audiobox usb

  • @guitar0124 This does not work with the Audioboxes. Only the Firestudio line as I stated above. Not even the new AudioboxVSL allow the use of the little "Z".

  • @themuzic dang well do you know any other way to get rid onf micropohne latency using the audiobox?

  • @guitar0124 Yes. The audiobox has a knob on the front called Mixer. To the left it says "Inputs" to the right it says "Playback" If you set it to "Inputs" you get an absolute Zero Latency signal from the inputs. If you set it somewhere in the middle, you can blend what's coming from the DAW with the live mics from the inputs.

  • @themuzic dude thanks soo muchthat worked

  • @guitar0124 The other option is to go into the driver for the Audiobox and set the ASIO to the "Fast" setting. It won't be Zero latency but it will be better and you'll be able to hear the effects on your voice, from the DAW.

  • I hear a little distortion in your mic there lol, too much gain, or just talk loud?

  • @RebornPsalmist While you're talking

  • @RebornPsalmist Crappy video recorder :)

  • @themuzic I see lol, But Thanks for the videos bro, They have taught me alot :). I am going to get this program soon :)

  • I follow this exactly, and the Z doesn't appear where it does in your video. Problem not solved.. any ideas?

  • @jakethiefx What audio Interface are you using?

  • @themuzic I'm using Studio One artist version 1.6.4 and I'm running through a PreSonus Firestudio mobile.

  • @jakethiefx Just updated to 1.6.5 And thanks in advance for taking the time to help.

  • @jakethiefx We may need to hook up. Email me. homestudiotrainer at yahoo.com

  • @themuzic can you please help me too i did all that but the Z did not pop up

  • searching for an answer. i have 2 presonus project units linked together going into studio one. the problem i am having is that sometimes when i record (creating a new song} i have distortion on all of the tracks on the second unit (tracks 9 to 16} only. tracks 1 to 8 record clean.am i not setting up the i/o right or am i not pressing the right buttons? i am using a mac computer.help!

  • @mikebrowz Well, I don't own a Mac but one thing you can try is switching them around. Make the one having the issue 1 to 8 and the one you know works 9 to 16, If the problem now occurs on 1 to 8 (the same unit) then that one my be faulty. If it still happens on 9 to 16 then either you have them set differently in the Universal Control app or you're firewire card has an issue.

  • @mikebrowz Also, make sure you are using the Universal Control app to set them to the same sample rate. If they're different, this distortion will happen. And, on a last guess, try swapping the Firewire cables. A bad cable can cause this as well.

  • Hey bro!! love your tutorial.I am having problems with setting up a basic track. I read the tutorial, but because i'm new to this i don't understand the terms . Please help me!! Love the way you teach !!

  • for some reason, the zero latency doesnt visually show up in the box... but it will say zero latency but when i click it.. nothing happens?? why is this?

    email: tmjmepomn@yahoo please!

  • for some reason, the zero latency doesnt visually show up in the box... but it will say zero latency but when i click it.. nothing happens?? why is this?

  • I have a StudioLive 16.4.2 and the Z is not showing up on my cue mixes. Is there a reason for this?

  • @JoseVillaDrums Do you have the VSL selected in the Studio One audio setup?

  • @JoseVillaDrums You don't have the option because you don't need it. Just use the Fat Channel & FX busses on the mixer itself. No reason to use them in software when the exact same things are already at your fingertips.

  • I wonder why they didn't make monitoring Zero Latency by default all the time. What's the point of having latency to begin with if it's possible to get rid of it? Just more crap in the way of me recording something it seems. :(

  • @RyanStanberry The reason is because having the ability to set the latency higher allows the CPU (both mac and PC) to not work as hard. But this kind of zero latency does not allow you to hear your voice back with effects. The only option is Dry!!! Having the ability to turn off the zero latency (with stronger computers) allows you to hear compression, reverbs and delays on your voice while tracking. The Presonus Firewire cards do NOT have DSP chips for zero latency with effects. That's why.

  • Thanks you this video make me truly and clearly understand about Zero Latency.

    Nice work.

  • can i do this tweaks even if i don't have any audio interface..?i just plug in my inputs directly to line in/mic of my sound card...

  • @venzlaysa Sure you can. Should work just as well!!!

  • Thanks again for another great instructional video. For the past 2 days I've been trying to record vocal tracks. The takes were not working and I couldn't tell why. Then I seen this video and thought, maybe there's a latency issue. So I took the vocal track and moved them 1/32 to the right and the vocal was almost perfect.

  • @77naes So I came back to this video and followed the steps. I don't have a "Z" that shows up. Maybe because I'm using an Alesis MultiMix 8 interface which I use the Headphone outs from it. So I soloed the Sub Out Track and recorded a new vocal track. Thanks again!!! :-D

  • Ok. I did something this morning 2 it and it sounds pretty good now .. But is there away I can just try to at least slow down The latency a Little bit or something ?

  • @FlyLfyeTV Sorry. That's all the Audiobox has to offer.

  • What if I don't even have the Audiobox our Firebox .. I just have the real Time HD sound card ... What can I do to get 0 latency ... Also I have an USB mic ... That's the one I'm trying to record with .

  • @FlyLfyeTV This only works with the Firestudio audio interfaces. No other sound card will allow this. Not even the Presonus USB cards.

  • so do i have to have a better prossesor or something that i can get for my computer so i can get zero latency or i really need the fire studo project

  • @antoniobarrerajr Well, one or the other really. If you want to hear effects on your vocals, while tracking and have zero Latency, I would say an i3 or better. But even then, setting the latency to 128 or 64 samples still isn't true "Zero Latency" Steinberg also has an 8 in 8 out rack interface that Cubase can access directly for absolute Zero Latency but it's $900. Or you can go with a Protools HD setup for about $4000.

  • @antoniobarrerajr I have found though, the Presonus gear with Studio One Pro or Artist is the best bang for the buck and still be able to get true Zero Latency via the Cue mix setups.

  • Hello i have done just what you said and i do not get the little Z to show up and when i go to my out puts i have 1 threw 8 out puts and 9 and 10 are s/pdif outputs left and right but i dont show headphones like yours and i am useing studio one pro with a presonus fp10 only and a monitor station

  • @antoniobarrerajr The FP10 does not have this option. Only the Firestudio labeled audio interfaces have this. The FP10 is the older version of the Firestudio Project and can not be upgraded either, I'm sorry to say.

  • @readyroverL33 I don't think this will work with the Firebox. It needs to be a Firestudio line Audio Interface. The Firebox may be too old to use this exact method. But if the little "Z" shows up then you're OK. If it doesn't, that's because that particular sound card is too old.

  • Excellent tutorial! I've seen a couple other of yours and you are just a very good teacher. Plus you sound like Casey Kassem.

    Thanks!

  • Hi

I did everything correct in setting up my zero latency cue mix - the control box appears O.K. but there is no visable "Z" for zero latency , although when I hover my mouse over the location where the Z should be a text box appears saying Zero latency, any ideas what might be wrong - great vids by the way

  • @DJGosper This feature will only work with Presonus" Firestudio model audio interfaces. No other interface will allow this.

  • @themuzic Hi again - I am running a Presonus Studio Live 16.4.2, this should work?

  • @DJGosper I don't think this type of Zero Latency will work with the SL because it has it's own direct monitoring. If the "Z" doesn't show up when using the SL Drivers in Studio One, then it won't work that way.

  • Hi , great vid but typically I have got stuck a tiny way in (I'm sure this is my fault). When I go into the audio I/O setup and then output it only has front left and front right options, there are no headphone options, so when I add the sub out I can't move it to phones, as it doesn't give me any options for this. Am I doing something incredibly stupid (quite possibly) .any help would be greatly appreciated as this latency is a real problem. The interface I'm using is a Presonus Audiobox USB.

  • @LindseyKateDolbear What you need to do is create the outs you need. At the bottom you will see the Add and Remove buttons. Use the Add button and create a stereo out.

  • @themuzic Hi, thanks for your help. I'm still stuck though. When I create a stereo out it just creates a subout underneath the main out but I can't create a headphone out to move it to. Any ideas?

  • @LindseyKateDolbear I see. The Audio Box is the one sound card that will no allow you to use the Zero Latency setup like in the video. It's hardwired to the main outs unfortunately. Only the "Firestudio" line of sound cards will allow this setup. Sorry about that.

  • Thanks for the vid I'm using Studio 1 pro with an analog board my interface is a Maudio delta 10/10lt sound card do you have any idea how I would could fix it in this situation Thanks by the way Presonus should put you on the payroll because thier site really doesn't answer a lot of questions Thanks again

  • @RockVoice4Real Oh man, I missed this question.. Sorry about that. Studio One should see the 1010 with no problems so all you'd need to do is set the aux outs of the analog mixer and wire them right into the 1010's ins and control the level from the analog mixers sends.

  • Do I really need to by a Presonus Audio Interface to record without latency?

  • @Lichtathlet - This is a special feature between Studio One and the Presonus interfaces. To get zero latency with other brands of interfaces, you would then use that interfaces driver application, like you would with all the other DAWs such as Record, FL Studio, Ableton Live and Cubase. However, Steinberg has a similar setup with Cubase 5.5 and the Steinberg MR816 interface but you'd have to find a video for those.

  • this video was so detailed and helpful thanks a million for taking time to make this vid... hey how do you mix a song on studio one ?

  • @eddietameit Check out my main page (just click on my name under my avatar) there should be a video on setting up for a mix.

  • this video was so detailed and helpful thanks a million for taking time to make this vid... hey how do you mix a song on studio one ? i recorded vocals they sound great but is there a way to mix down the vocals on this same program... sorry for the silly question jut new to studio one-bought the studio one live board and now am using studio one

  • i have studio 1 artist... and i still have a latency problemmm. using an audiobox usb presonus. im hating the program right now cause its hard to learn.

  • @Bobbo63 Well, you'd be one of the few who hate S1 Artist, but the Audiobox does not have the Zero latency feature as described in the video. For that interface, you need to use the mix button in the front of the unit to get anything close to Zero Latency. The zero latency feature, like in the video, is only available for the Firestudio line of interfaces, as I indicated in the video.

  • Johnny, artist doesn't have zero latency? Only pro?

  • @musiccomputing I have been seriously considering a StudioBlade. Many of us that use Studio One would like to see a smaller, flying fader, desktop controller version. The price of a StudioBlade is a bit steep for many of us who already have computers and keyboard controllers. But yeah, we've seen it.

  • @themuzic - For those of you with computers and laptops already, you may want to consider the iKeyDOCK that we offer, it's basically the StudioBLADE without the computer parts and is only $1,599. Motorized faders would of course, add to the cost, which as you have stated, is an issue in today's economy.

  • Unfortunately, Cubase5 doesn't use the Zero Latency option in the Firestudio interfaces like this at all. I'm not sure how you would go about it. But my guess would be to:

    1. open the FS Universal Control

    2. setup one of the inputs with the mic so you can hear the signal even with Cubase closed

    3. create your track in Cubase and arm it

    4. turn down the volume of the track so you only hear the direct line from the FS

    5. now, go ahead and record your track

Give that a try and I'll see what else.

  • Can you make another video using presonus firestudio and Cubase5?

  • great tutorial video!

  • so i bought this software and also have a PSF and on my initial start up the program was fine but i accidently messed with my pc's recorders to hook up my guitar directly to my pc for a guitar touter program i also bought...basically the next time i opened stidio one there was a delay that is exactly like the one on this vid only when i do everything u did the delay still wont go away any suggestions anybody?!!?!??

  • I have FSP & Studio One. I would like to input a guitar on Input 2 and route it to say Out put 2 (Marshall amp) and to have the sound to be heard Only through the output 2 (Marshall Amp) At the mo its coming through the Marshall but also through the main outs. Id like to set up vocals to route to main out. Keyboards to main out and then to have 3 guitars each on their own Input/output to their own individual amp (Ie Marshall x 3) each guitar sound not to come through the main out speakers

  • Hello...great video... really helpful...I'm starting to use Studio One, i actually have Studio One artist, but in this version the "Quantize" function doesn't seems to work....Here's the question, is it working on Studio One Pro? have you tested it yet? Thanks for the help!

  • very helpful!!!! THANKS SO MUCH.

  • Thank you dude, very helpful

  • Good vid! Question. After I have created a group how do I ungroup them? All I see is the disolve group option. Do I really have to regroup my drums every time I want to adjust one drum?

  • @dwdrummer97 For that feature, yes. The group option is for linking faders together. For Drums, your best bet is to create a BUS where all the drum tracks will go to that. This way, you have a single fader for for all the drums and still have the ability to adjust them individually. Also, having a BUS for the drums will give you the ability to insert compression, reverb or EQ on the entire drum kit at once.

  • Thank you!

  • good example..thanks...

  • @squidskunk Thanx man. I wasn't sure if it was going to come across correctly.

  • @themuzic ...very clear and to the point i got it right off the bat...thanx..!
