I was at the game in Tuscaloosa in 1970. It was the only SEC game the Tide won that year. I also saw Pete in Tuscaloosa in 1968 and 1969. If you didn't see him play in person when he was in college, it's hard to understand what an amazing player he was.
Unless you saw him in person, you wouldn't believe what he could do. The greatest ball handler, passer and one of the greatest scorers ever. For any of those who never saw him, it is hard to comprehend how far ahead of the game he was. There has never been another like him; incomparable.
magic johnson wouldnt make a pimple on pistol pete's ass.. maravich was the guy that invented showtime. he was the greatest scorer in NCAA history and will always be the greatest in my eyes. kids that want to be a basketball player should follow his work ethics..
@jdftwo1 You shouldn't make irrational statements because you feel so strongly about Pistol...but, Pistol couldnt handle :Larry Bird...much less Magic Johnson...lol.
In his era among his peers..he was much better than them...but keep it real ok.
I wish there was more real game footage for pistol pete. I'm not a fan of all that flare and the dumb tricks--but what a trigger he had! For all the hype, his best weapon was that beautiful j.
i saw this game on TV. It was a Saturday PM--i remember it well. My friends and I followed Pete and we were in rapt amazement. he was off the chart! his college scoring records are unchallenged and that is without any three point goals, of which he would have had many! Plus, every team was loaded for him on defense, to no avail. Pete was definitely the best dribbler and passer ever. What a ballplayer. None like him.
Thanks, 1avardac. I was at the 69-point game in Tuscaloosa and I remember his passing as much as his shooting. And, towards the end of the game we were all yelling for him to shoot because we were aware of the awesome night he was having and how many points he was putting up. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see him in action. Thanks, again.
One pass I remember from this game is Pete driving on a fast break in the middle, an LSU player ahead and to his right with a Bama player guarding the other player. Pete turns as if to slow the play down and set up an offense. With a no-look pass he flips the ball to his teammate who lays it in for two. The Bama player was caught flat-footed.
It was obvious that his teammate knew to expect the pass but our Bama guy was made to look defenseless! Wow! What a player!
the BEST of all time...I wish the kids of today could see the Pistol play ...They don't even know who Pistol is on the playground...If he was in the NBA NOW in his PRIME (before he blew out his knee), Kobe, Iverson, and all those like them, would be dropping their jaws....
@geauxlsu05 Hey, 05, the 69-point game was in Tuscaloosa. This is actually footage of a game in Baton Rouge. I was at the 69-point game and it was WOW, start to finish!

Was this the 104-106 basketball game? Talk about a good game for college kids to go to, especially with Pete scoring 69 points.

Did the broadcast have any sound? Because this clip doesn't have it (apart from the modern commentary, that is).
