  • Ice in Florida huh? Danged Global Warming. Same Global Warming put record snows in many parts of the Rockies too. We in W. Central Arkansas were touched by Global Warming also ..... back-to-back-to-back triple snowstorms leaving a total of up to 3 feet of the white stuff, rather than 10-12 inches we typically get all winter. Those record snows (well, since 1925 anyway) were held in place for weeks by Global Warming's sub-zero temps, not the normal 20's or so. Danged Global Warming, go away!

  • @offamychain We always get ice in FLA. In the 70's we dipped to 14f where we live. It Killed every Australian Pine on our property that year. This year 2010-2011 winter was one of the warmest on record in Central Florida. Not that that proves or disproves anything. Global temperatures are not generally related to an irregularly positioned jet stream.

  • I can see how you would make snow. Roll on the winter so you can make it snow!

  • The ice is about 5/8" thick.. But who's counting?

  • Nice- didn't expect it to be slow motion ice breaking :)

  • nice

  • it technically isn't warming then now is it? Scientist can also compare the temperatures on different plants. They have found that other planets were also warming do to the increased sun activity. You can't blame cooling and warming on man at the same time. Either one cycle or the other is occurring. It's pretty much common sense but some people don't get it. Our path from the sun and it's cycles are the primary drivers of warming and cooling.

  • WRONG.

The sun is currently the COOLEST it has been.

If Pluto's small warming is due to the sun then Mercury (with it's much closer orbit) would have massive temperature spikes which is not occurring.

And if I add (0.1 times the number of values) to a range of random values between 0 and 1 there will be SHORT term cooling trends.

  • I agree, I mean isn't it obvious that the huge nuclear fusion ball we float around, is actually responsible for cooling and warming our planet.

  • Can you please tell me how to make the slow motion. Thank you.

  • @weeeweeebrain Casio EXILIM Pro EX-F1 records at 300-1200 fps, this is what makes Slow motion crystal clear.

    Dan

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE i have that camera :)

  • cool baseball bat vibration sound at 4:05

  • @sockosockosocko That bat PING is delicious.

  • Curse that global warming. You can't even get a decent freeze on in Florida anymore.

  • "I'm in Cape Coral, this is just stupid cold. Don't remember it ever being this cold this long. In the 30s at night for over a week"

  • So silly that global warming deniers think a cold snap is evidence against global warming.

The sun has phases just as the earth does. It has things called sunspots. Few sunspots = cold sun, lots of sunspots = hot sun.

Right now there are very few sunspots, hence our colder temperatures. But when those spots return, you, along with all your denier buddies, will be eating your humble pie.

  • The sun has phases just as the earth does. It has things called sunspots. Few sunspots = cold sun, lots of sunspots = hot sun?

So what you're saying is that sunspots are to blame for global warming

  • Absolutely not. Scientists take this stuff into account when calculating global warming data. Laymen global warming deniers don't.

Bottom line with global warming is simple. There's more CO2 in the air than there has been for millions of years. CO2 is a greenhouse gas. There must be some consequences for it.

  • There are Scientist heretics out there too.

  • Keep denying denier. It'll become true if you wish hard enough.

There's Scientists that believe a lot of crazy things. Doesn't mean the 99% that don't have a less valid point.

  • You dont even pay attention to what scientists are saying about why global warming is causing it to get colder

  • Global warming is supposedly freezing the world

  • So, global warming is causing the polar ice caps to melt which effects the Atlantic conveyor which will cause an ice age where the nothern most regions will be covered with glacial ice which will keep the fresh water from the melting polar ice caps from interfering with the Atlantic conveyor thus resulting in higher temperatures overall thus starting the cycle all over again. Mankind is surely doomed unless we start transferring huge amounts of wealth to the third world?

  • Don't forget the insane frozen hurricanes that will instantly freeze things in their path ignoring the laws of thermodynamics (which in reality wouldn't work even if the temp was 0*K). That movie's science sucked.

It's cold this year because of a shift in the jet stream... The temperature isn't rising as fast as predicted from global warming because you can't accurate predict sunspot (de)formation.

  • Just think of the boon to tourism when Manhattan becomes the new Venice.

  • And! If you put water in a ziplock bag, an put it in the freezer, you can make a frozen ice ball, to hit with your baseball!!!

  • Have fun playing with your ice, It'll be 106 here today

  • Waste of time

  • I'm in Cape Coral, this is just stupid cold. Don't remember it ever being this cold this long. In the 30s at night for over a week? Finally at 65 today, but now we get rain all weekend.

Thanks for reminding me that spring training is right around the corner, nice!!

  • just to let all you people now, i'm in canada... its been -20C/ -4F at night for about 1.5 weeks here now, enjoy your warmth

  • dude you are too funny! love your video

  • fun

  • Haha 5:02 "BAD ASS DAN".

  • love your vid!!!

  • Dan, its obvious that you live where you are not used to having ice or snow. Now if you lived in a shit state like Michigan where you have to shovel it, try to walk in it, drive on it, etc. you would have not made this video and would hate ice and snow like those of us that have to deal with this shit from mother nature;-)

  • you may want to reedit the vidoe to not have the tag on your van showing

  • i love the sound of the bat hitting ice in slow mo

  • didnt know it froze in florida. all the trees are still green tho!

  • very nice...i like the "art" and nice closing

  • you got a fuckin swing mann haha

  • very cool slow mo action!

  • Damn, you can swing!

  • Some novelty this solid water stuff eh?

Dig this, try and create ice house and save that "cold" for summer use

Did you know a "Ton" of air conditioning refers to the cooling effect of a one ton block of ice?

So get to it Dan, LOL cut your AC bills.

    Good fun innit?

  • safety glasses?.....really?

  • I will try to build fresnel lens with ice...

  • of all the things you smashed the Milk Jug had best effect IMO, thanx for the Video glad your having fun did not know it froze in Fla.

Only once or twice in like ten years for us here in So Cal, at the beach

  • Awsome ending!...man I gotta try this with my old pellet gun ;)

  • cool rain effect at the end

  • If you want lots of ice you should come to Quebec, it was about -25c a few weeks ago.

  • That last swing was badass.

  • I agree that was cool.

  • I thought the clarity of ice had more to do with minerals on the water - or lack of ?

I did an experiment with hard and soft water in the freezer and the soft was clear and the hard no so.....

  • It does for perfection. Even double boiled distilled water will cloud at 10 F . The ice making machines in food places use a square tray that water flows all the time over, then the cubes are ejected to a trough collector. The ice is formed at 30F this way.

  • If you chill the water very slowly, the minerals and gases dissolved in the water will precipitate out and you will have clear ice. Otherwise the small tiny air bubbles and sediment will form, clouding the ice

  • 4:32 Is that a cat or a skunk?

  • Another great video Dan! Thanks

  • suck it didn't work bass slow mo 5*

  • relieve stress

  • What latitude are you living in Cal where you have ice winter nights?

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't realize it got that cold in Florida.

  • freaking awesome...what camera is that?

  • Casio EXILIM Pro EX-F1

    didn't u read the " more info " ?

  • You Floridians are so cute when you experience temperatures below 32F. It reminds me of the fun I had when I was little.

  • @whaumbatt Right now here in Montreal it's -7C.

  • It was -6C last night here in Michigan... We're ecstatic that the sun came out and it got above 0C today in January.

  • @whaumbatt it got to 100 deg here in australia today, just thought i would share that with you lol

  • What do your neighbors think about these shenanigans?

"Look, Honey! Now Dan's getting ready to beat the hell out of milk jug with a bat!"

  • @JimminyPricket LMFAO!

  • Interesting cinematography etc... but I guess I joined this channel to get some new ideas regarding alternative energy solutions ...???

  • I think the cold left here and went down there. It's not as cold right now as it was when I made my last vid.

I remember in the late 70s when I was 5, it snowed in Pensacola, an inch or two. I made my first snowman in Pensacola. Was too big, but I do know that it can get cold down there on occasion.

You seem to be having fun *****

  • Typo: Wasn't too big.

  • nice shots! I love that slo mo

  • the slow motion sound of the bat sounds like whale calls.

  • global warming

  • climate change indeed

  • Nice and warm in Las Vegas.

  • The sound of the bat hitting the ice in slow motion was awesome.

  • Nice slow mo

  • That is pretty cool.

  • You are one wild and crazy guy! Good Video.

  • IM in FL also, and my big ol fish pond has frozen,, first time in like 30 years give or take a day :) Good video. 5*'s!

  • Yes indeed, that last shot was VERY bad ass!!!

  • That was cool

  • Wow your a busy guy.

  • Dan, what do you do for a living to afford all your "supplies" for the videos?

  • @corryn00 Science stuff, consulting, website and above all - live small. Also buy stuff cheap if possible. The flow tank was free with a pump, just picked it up, sat dish too.

  • Nice job Dan....come up north, we have plenty of ice you can smash!

  • Holy crap someone in Florida who isn't crying about the cold!

  • you had fun:P

  • I gotta say, that last shot was awesome.

  • @MeisterDonDon :-) Thank you, I was surprised how high it went.

  • Dan, I know it's cold in Florida but I just wonder what was your point of this video.

Not that dislike any of your vids!

  • @Sirmau ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY method of breaking things?

  • Great Job Dan that camera is pretty neat! Great Video! 5/5

  • Baadd ass swing! i want you on my team;-)

  • awesome slow motion... can't wait to see more peltier TEG videos!

  • you REALLY like your new camera.. DONT ya Dan?..lol great work

  • 3rd

  • Nice stuff dan.

  • Great video! now you know how us canadians fee... sort of!

  • Oooh no, they haven't seen half of what you Canadians see! xD I mean, my dad lived out on a little farm in Saskatchewan, and apparently it's NORMAL to get 2-4 feet of snow in October... :P I deeply pity you all.
