  • Yea, but alAYS look at these kind of stories. Its always A Democrate who brings our Citizens home, You never see a story a Republican going out there and bring back a American citizen or MIA soldiers. at least I havenst seen one yet not remembering hearing one, but Please do share with me if there is one or more.

  • That's great, truly. Let's follow it up with calling for the reunification of the Zelaya family and condemnation of the anti-democratic coup in Honduras.

  • Good job, Obama!!

Show the world how to get things done with a cool head, simple reasoning and displomacy.

He is strong in foreign policy as well. LEAD ON!!

  • its a source of happiness for the whole country except for at least ppl: john bolton & dick morris.

  • I think to Jung IL and his IL minded lackeys this is a victory. The mighty Americans had to make that long trip over the ocean to ask nicely.

  • This is a good day for all Americans, not Liberal or Conservative or Imaginary.

Liberals should not point to this and go "look what we can do!"

Conservatives should not point to this and say "hoax, scam or hypocrisy!"

We should all point to this and say "Thank Goodness. Welcome Home."

  • Well this is a hoax, scam and hipocrisy. Those women don't look American. *joke*

  • It's good they got to go home, but it's bad they put themselves in that situation. What were they thinking?....crossing illegally into N. Korea for a news story, how idiotic, then they get treated like some kind of heroes for what they had to endure.....they are idiot journalists.

  • That's harsh ... but I kinda agree. :/

  • By that argument zidmt, anything that threatens an individual directly (or perhaps by implication - indirectly) should be avoided.

Chosing to ignore danger does not in itself make an idiot. Idiocy requires a compunction to ignore information in favor of belief - "Truthiness" as Colbert coined the phrase.

When people choose to ignore danger, in search of some purpose, it is not idiocy, it is conviction and passion.

You dont share those values nor can you judge them in others.

  • Is that TYT's Cenk Uyger from 1:40 on?

  • Nevermind, it's Euna Lee's husband who looks uncannily like Cenk Uyger, but isn't. Weird.

  • The Thuglicans must be CRUSHED. I'm sure they were all hoping Clinton would fail in his mission and have to return home without the 2 journalists so they could exploit it for political gain. Fuckwads.

  • thats a sad way of thinking about your fellow americans. every american should be happy that the two of them came back safely.

eitherway, clinton has class, and is a good person.

  • Actually I didn't care. Hell I didn't even know anything about journalist in NK until Clinton went over there to bring them back

  • That's part of the problem. This situation has been front and center on the blogs, but "the news" has been too busy making money.

It's not that long ago that networks willingly lost money in order to compete for the pride of having the most integrity in their coverage of the news.

Now it's a commodity sold to whoever can sign the cheques.

  • This is a sad day for republicans.

  • The Democrats can now count with the Asian American vote, as well as the African American, Latino, educated White America, etc. I doubt a Republican can ever get to The White House in a long time.

  • i've noticed something about you tpmtv, when it isn't the 100 seconds vids you take a lot from msnbc

  • Are you getting a tingle from the tin foil?

  • how is that a logical response, i was just noting a trend, nothing more. i don't know what you are trying to get at with your implication?

  • I could not be happier for them and their families! I don't know how anybody can look at this and see problems, the little girl has her mommy back..i'm gonna go cry now!

  • Why is it that only Democrats negotiate and get hostages released?

Carter, Clinton, Gore, Richardson, Jesse Jackson, etc.

  • Repigblicons don't know the meaning of PEACE.

  • interesting???????

  • Because peaceful negotiations don't cater to their voter base's power fantasies.

  • Because Republicans use bombs instead.

  • oolong2, List hostages during the years of Republican administrations and what happened to them, please.

  • Oh heck, I'll do it for you, just to prove I'm not such a bad guy. 53 American Embassy hostages sprung from Iran in 1980, five minutes after Reagan took the Oath of Office.

    Happy? :)

  • It is well documented that Reagan negotiated to sell weapons to Iran in exchange for the release of the hostages as long as it was done after he was sworn in as president...

I hardly call selling weapons to win political points a humanitarian effort...

  • I guess there was also the TWA Flight 847 hostage crisis, which wasn't exactly a success, but not a failure either.

There were also a couple of other hostage takings in Beirut, back when it was Kidnapping-city Central. But that's when the arms for hostages silliness started.

What were some of the others? My memory is fading.

  • Olivier, Thank you for the examples.

There is a difference between hostages being held by terrorists and by a government.

  • Sometimes there is, and sometimes there isn't, since some governments sponsor terrorist organizations. But I know what you mean. Hostages being held by the OFFICIAL government.

  • By the way, do you know what Obama meant during the campaign when he said "civilian national security force"? It sounds creepy, to be honest. Is it an already existing program that he's expanding, and if so, why did he need a new phrase for it? And why should it be "just as powerful" as our military?

  • I don't know. I don't remember him saying that. Can you point me to a source for the quote?

  • Sure. He said it in a speech in Colorado: Tt2yGzHfy7s

  • Okay, I checked it out. You can find the whole speech on the BarackObamadotcom youtube channel. Just search "Colorado" and you'll find it.

If you watch from 16 minutes onward, you'll see that he was referring to "growing the Foreign Service" and doubling the size of the Peace Corps in order to make America more secure through DIPLOMACY. That's what he was referring to by "a civilian force." Not using the word "force" literally.

  • I just find it odd he chose to use those words rather than "We need to expand AmeriCorps."

He is good with words, you know?

  • MooseOfReason, It's not about the administration it's about the PEOPLE.

The last hostage crisis Obama had to deal with he didn't sing combaya he sent in the Navy Seals... lol

But as a general observation, I see democrats take on these humanitarian efforts whether they are in/out of office.

Carter, Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Cynthia Mckinny, Richardson, etc.

I haven't seen any republcan do the same... I'm sure there has to be one SOMEWHERE, but I just haven't seen it.

  • oolong2, You say "It's not about the administration," yet your comment praised Democrats for dealing with hostage situations.

Also, President Obama gave an order to act if the captain's life was in imminent danger. He didn't send the Navy, though. They came in response to the Maersk reporting a hostage situation.

"The rescue began when Commander Frank Castellano, captain of the Bainbridge, determined that Phillips' life was in imminent danger and ordered the action."

  • MooseOfReason ,

Yes Democrats as in *people* who politcally call themselves "Democrats" not "Democratic administrations".

    There is an obvious distinction.

It seems that those that go out of their way to negotiate for hostage releases or take up humanitarian causes, tend to be democrats based on my observations.

Now if you know of any well known Republicans that have taken up humanitarian causes, then by all means inform me.

Otherwise I don't see a problem with my comment.

  • Why did the journalists thank the "Dow Company"?

  • Why's that interesting?

  • No, I don't find it particularly interesting that they're married.

  • the interesting part is their both white. i cant believe u dont find that interesting.

  • Those women went through hell!

  • not really. they didnt have to do any hard labor.

  • It's very refreshing to actually see some good news for a change.

  • Did anyone see if fox news tried to spin this in a negative light because Clinton and Gore were involved?

  • Yea, there's a Hannity clip posted yesterday, bashing Clinton's effort.

  • I saw a hannity clip on this as well.

He basically says that it's illegitimate, that there was a deal in advance to release the prisoners and that concessions may have been made to NK.

He ignores that it did in fact happen and that to sugg. that KJI is somehow trying to help Obama is absurd, that a deal in place is obvious (nobody would risk a former POTUS otherwise) and that AG or BC wouldn't be able to provide any such concessions since former presidents have no power.

  • I call BS on what Hannity says. I think he just doesn't want Bush to look bad, you know the guy who couldn't negotiate his way out of a paper bag. Pres. Clinton had NK on the right track during his tenure. Then, Bush comes along and things turn bad. Obama gets elected, and Clinton is able to just saunter in and restart the process.

So much for the no-negotiate, preemptive strike, Bush doctrine

  • Most of what Hannity says is BS. He's been repeatedly caught saying half truths and lies by omission, editing speeches to make his point and quote mining left right and center.

The sad thing is that Hannity still maintains absurdly high ratings so he isn't going away. And even if he did he would be replaced by someone just as venomous, unscrupulous and insane. I look forward to the day the right gets a good, level headed, intelligent commentator. Maybe there's one out there? IDK

  • Yeah, Dick Morris was on Fox & Friends saying it would have been better to let those women rot in prison than give Kim a photo-op with Clinton. Then Steve Doucy muttered something about not negotiating with terrorists.

But then again, what do you expect? They'd all lose their jobs if they ever said anything positive about something done by a Democrat.

Dick Morris, of course, is on Fox as the token, self-loating Democrat. But personally, I think MSNBC has a better mascot (John Dean).
