This was a BBC television production, not a full-blown movie. It was a great success when first shown in England. Emma Watson is simply incredible.

@cricketbat08 No, it was definitely a movie. I can tell you that because I just finished watching it :) However, I think it was a TV production ages ago, but in 2007 they made it into a film.

@delorfinde Thanks for the info. It was a movie, but I believe it was made for the BBC television channel, on which it was first shown. I think at the time of release it was regarded as a television production as opposed to a national cinema theatre release. ( But it may have been shown in cinemas elsewhere). :) :)

Oh I want to see this, if Emma Watson is in it, you know it's going to be good. She only takes roles that are going to be great movies, which is one of the reasons why she's a great actress compared to all the other teenage actors these days.

I am a huge fan of Emma as well and love the Harry Potters and Ballet Shoes (haven't seen Despereaux) but she's only been in two others besides Harry Potter, so you can hardly compare her with other teenagers - many are very successful.

Most of my favourite actors are teenagers (around my age, give or take a few years).

I think I agree with you, though: if Emma's in it, I would probably watch it :)

theliman, given that Ballet Shoes was made for television and not shown at all in the cinemas in the UK, I don't quite see how going straight to video has any bearing on the quality. In fact, it might indicate a particularly good film. The BBC has made literaly hundreds of adaptations of classic books, many of which, including the 1995 Pride and Prejudice, are seen as definitive versions. None of them came out in cinemas.

It was a made for tv film for the Holidays...it wasn't supposed to be released in the theaters...but Ballet Shoes turned out so good that it actually was released in a certain number of theaters around the world and then it was released on dvd...it was not straight to video by any means.

Ballet Shoes was produced by the BBC not a film company, it was made for the christmas hoildays and aired on boxing day which millions watched it, it was so popular the bbc sold it to american and other countries cinemas, and also brought it out on DVD. please check your facts before being a negative commenter. and Emma Watson is a very talented actress winning lots of awards.
