  • BRILLIANT! you genius!

  • That was cool! :D

  • The rings and rays were just simple black and white images. The rays were lines from a central point, which I then random erased. The rings were the same, I just drew a ring, and then randomly used the erase tool to make gaps. The distortions in the rings were done with a plugin.

  • @DavidRGilson I was wondering, what type of program did you use to create this fantastic special effect?

  • Nice job. Been working on my own leaping effect in After Effects. How did you do the rays and the rings? I've pretty much got the rest of it figured out.

  • This is very good. I couldn't do better. The circle in the background could be a little smaller, or be animated, but you know what you're doing. Bravo!

  • Thank you :)

  • You need to create a tutorial man! Hook it up!

  • what program do you use for this and is it free?

  • pleeeeease make a tutorial for this leap effect :(

  • Mate, that's ace!!!

  • o my days that was sick but seriously can u do it on final cut and the music to bro ur big dont know who u r but u big. another quantum leap fan!!!

  • that was awesome lol i love QL

  • Not bad...it would be cooler if you were moving and then leaping...it just doesn't look right with just a picture...know what I mean??

  • Yeah, I do know just what you mean, and I agree. The reason I did it as I did was because I was only trying to see if I could reproduce the leap effect. So having a moving or still object was, academically speaking, a minor difference. I did think about a moving subject, although I didn't have a blue/green screen, so it would have meant doing lots of animations to trace the outline of the subject (which'd be me).

  • it does look good though!

  • Well thank you for saying :)

  • hey thats cool how can you show me how to do that ?

  • Took a while to build up. As I mentioned above, the process is very similar to doing light sabers. I started off with four very basis images, two types of diverging "rays" and two sets of broken rings. The other part is cutting the person out of the image, so that you can effectively slip the rays and rings inbetween the subject and the background (easier if you have a blue/green screen, which I didn't - so I used a still image to reduce the work time required).

  • Is there any way we might be able to convince you to share your secret of doing this?? Perhaps on Final Cut Pro?

  • I'm not familiar with that program I'm affraid. If you'd like to chat in detail about how I did do it, PM me details on how I can IM you.

  • How'd you do that?

  • It was very complicated, although if you know how to do lightsabers, it helps for doing this ;-)

  • Believe it or not, it's very similar to doing light sabers.

  • Coming from a Quantum nut like me, I gotta say I loved it!!

  • Glad you liked it :)

  • Not bad, either, but try to do a bit more here, like executing the entire leap sequence: you know, leap-out, just what you did, but also leap-in.

Good effects you got, by the way.

  • Thanks again for the feedback :)
