@hereitgosagain12 errr yeah, i'm slightly bored of people commenting in outrage at what i've done to the almighty stan brakhage's work, all i did was add some colour, patterns and music to it, so it could be used as some visual stimulation whilst using hallucinogenics, i'm not saying i "improved" his work in any way, i just warped it for my own amusement, i don't understand why people get so offended by what i've done to it
@acepeeter 1: if you need drugs to enjoy this then i feel sorry for you.
2: if you need this to enjoy drugs, then you havnt took enough.
and 3: ppl get pissed off because it is someones art youre fucking with, if you think his vision isnt good enough for you then go make your own and not rob his
@hereitgosagain12 i never said i was improving it, don't be so precious about it, the internet is full of people taking other people's work and playing around with it, i just did it for my own amusement, i don't even particularly give a shit about it, i did it like 3 years ago, and i don't need this to enjoy drugs or visa versa, just fuck off, there's plenty of his films untampered with on youtube and elsewhere for you to watch

@MsPsycho29 " I am not happy about the rebirth of the Jesuits. Swarms of them will present themselves with more disguises ever taken by even a chief of the Bohemians - as printers, writers, school teachers, etc. If ever an association of people deserved eternal damnation, on this earth and in hell, it is this Society of Loyola (1816).

To destroy this invisible government, to befoul this unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today." PRESIDENT THEODORE ROOSEVELT, 1906
@sairgrace25 that's such a stupid thing to say, it clearly is about seeing visual things that aren't there, obviously there's more to it than that, this is just some visual stimulation to watch whilst tripping, it's really not that complicated
ooops didn't mean to multi post, didn't realize it was going up there... but maybe it was Stan's hand pushing that post button. Now I'm sure, he doesn't like this ghost though he may be, even though as an old hipster, personally I see some Postmodernist (however lazy) worth to it. simone lazzeri ellis
I have to admit that this is beautiful and enhanced by the color and the music, but I knew Stan, and I know for a fact he would be so freakin pissed off that you did this to his work, it would have sent him into an apoplectic fit!! Why don't you make your own meticulously hand painted film, and do this to you own freakin film instead of ripping off the Master who was more upset by such appropriation than you'd ever know. If you must rip off a Master, do Burroughs instead, WSB was cutup King.
this is insulting to the original work. The color, music, and cheap imovie effects really don't add anything except dumbing it down to mindless 'psychedelia'.
@rzbloh I agree. I knew Stan, and I know for a fact he would be so freakin pissed off that you did this to his work, it would have sent him into an apoplectic fit!! Why don't you make your own meticulously hand painted film, and do this to you own freakin film instead of ripping off the Master who was more upset by such appropriation than you'd ever know. Is anyone watching this actually aware this doesnt happen when you take LSD, I have been trying to explore experimental film for a while now... but it all seems both obvious and simplistic, as well as pretentious... as if the makers wished to Hi jack the medium, listening to interviews with experimental film makers, or reading those not commited to film, most seem to be slightly unbalanced. This is something.. fine. art? Maybe.. brilliant? People must be stupid, if this is to them, brilliance.
@Apis4 it doesn't "happen" when you take LSD, how could it? It's not an event being depicted on screen, its psychedelic imagery set to psychedelic music, which under the influence of hallucinogenics the viewer can appreciate far more, there's nothing pretentious about this, what you see on screen is not intended to convey any particular meaning, its just visual and aural stimulation whilst hallucinating
@acepeeter You took him out of context. He was making a very valid point. People pretend they know about acid by making up stories of green gremlins etc, but the truth is, it's nothing like most people say it is.
The best example I can think of is that I was at a party and got a 1/4 tab. A bit later, I went to another "party" that only had 3 people. I was smoking outside, and this camp asian came to chat me up. I thought we were on a club dancefloor. I left, the kerb drop felt like 2 feet deep.
@acepeeter Thats the whole point.. making 'pretty picture' with oil in water, thats what this is.. adding some music.. trying to do something.. not sure what.. which expresses something. I find pretnetious and abusive of the medium. I look at Brakhage.. I am sorry..it just make no sense.. the absence of realism in abstraction renders it void as we experience life in 'realist' terms, not surrealist, or abusrudist ones. I dont know, just seems less valid than othe rundergound film...
@Apis4 I mean early porn, ultra violence.. and unclassfiable mixes of real sex and violence in era's past? Sure.. you can understand them and go on to become Leornard Lake.. to me, if I had to choose between watching a movie called simply 'M-Lady 1' and this? it would be very hard to choose this.. which might be sad indictment upon me, but it would be one of my own making if I had too choose to watch too much of films such as this.
@roddymuyank OK sure.. but coming from an Artist, idk how valid that is really. Goya does rank amongst the more..valid..artists... painting things which one really should have painted, but few ever did, to me, thats a short list... him and Carvagio, pretty much, were the only two, which links back into this film. Underground sex, ultraviolent, supernatural or subversive films.. true orginal 'underground' film.I get, but his? Ironically Goya's words and art are poles appart, I get his latter...
@Apis4 ...maybe thats why I dont get this? Is it just me, or most 'experimental' film simplistic? I dont know.. all I know is it strikes me as similar to the early 20thC literary classics.. or so called.. I will use something like To Kill a Mockingbird or Catcher in the Rye since I most recently reread them, how can they be so.. legendary? To me, they are obvious.. simplistically so.. I honestly just cant believe preople are so.. basic.. as to be amazed..provoked..just like Exp. Film.
I don't think there's anything wrong with that question. I think he made it because painting on film strip is a good time consuming hobby to distract you from depression.
Incredible. I love the subtle changes you've made. Brakhage's films are even better without music, I just mute the AMT and the images create their own music. I do think the music itself is an excellent choice

The sound does not belong to the film. Brakhage said sound in film is a blind alley.
