The Dege Parkang is one of the most important traditional cultural institutions of Tibet. Founded in 1729 by the most famous of the Kings of Dege, Denba Tsering , the Parkang is a living repository of Tibetan learning and culture: a printing house, temple, library and museum in one institution.

Today, the Dege Parkang prints books and images from its collection of over 300,000 woodblocks. These include renowned full editions of the Buddhist Kangyur and Dengyur, commentaries and histories of Buddhist thought, royal histories of Dege, astrological, medical and musical texts

Dege Parkang houses blocks for most of the works of classic Tibetan literature and all five schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The Parkang also prints from its collection of over 500 "picture blocks" which include images of Buddhas, deities, mandala, and ritual prints.
