  • Mario missed 446 games due to injury!!! That's not counting the 3 year retirement!!!!!!! lol. THE Best.

  • One person is a fudgepacking Bobby Orr fanatic... hahaha

  • It was Larmer, he was trying to break out I believe....

  • The single greatest moment in the history of The Igloo.

  • Wow, what the hell was the Blackhawk lined up at the lower part of the screen doing? Can't make out the name but he pinches back to the point in hopes of a breakaway or something and totally leaves Mario alone. I think it's Steve Larmer (#28). What a blown assignment. WTF is he thinking there?

  • genius at work

  • 1 person is an idiot

  • @fuzioncube number 28 lol. I mean mario had is heightened hockey awareness going as usual but 28 was the only person on the ice that didnt know the pens had won the face off i think. Either that or he was gambling that the puck would be poke checked up ice wish was probably even dumber.

  • what a dream team. lemiuex, francis, jagr, tocchet, stevens, coffey, samuelsonn, murphy.. wow

  • @smhpgh23 coffey wasn't on this team.Him and recchi got traded for tocchet, kjell samuelsson, and ken wregget.Los Angeles ,Philly and PGH had a 3 team deal with all those players and players from L.A..Coffey went to LA via philly, and recchi went to philly..

  • @bern1417 well i mean he was on team for part of the year.. but i get what ur saying.. thanks

  • he knew that puck was going there... cause that's what great players do!!

  • Even though the 92 Stanley Cup Finals was a sweep they games were very close

  • Mario Lemiux physically was the dominant Center of his era

  • I think that was a set play, but Belfour looked like he really pooched it there. Larry Murphy never gets enough props, immensely talented D man.

  • EPIC in the true essence of the word.

  • Lemieux was just tall and had incredible reach...he had skills but if he was shorter, he wouldn't have been nearly as productive.

  • WOW WHAT A LINE, JAROMIR JAGR, LARRY MURPHY, RON FRANCIS AND FUCKING MARIO LEMIEUX

  • @TUdaToken And Stevens, he had 50 goals a few times.

  • @TUdaToken you forgot Phil Bourque!! he stopped the winger and allowed the pass the murphy!!

  • @Thorntonator19 LOL Phil Bourque? Are you serious? No way Bourque would have been on the ice with 20 sec left and the game on the line. The player along the wall is Kevin Stevens. It's Stevens,Lemieux,Francis,Jagr, and MR reliable Larry Murphy on the ice for this play.

  • they should have just gave them the Cup then

  • he sucks

  • This clip just doesn't feel the same without Mike Lange's call.

Still... Ron Francis to Larry Murphy to Mario... Three of my favorite players of all time!

  • Mario was such a legendary hockey player. Always amazing to watch his skills!

  • Two words for this goal: Back Breaker

  • Ed Belfour was one of the best goaltender ever... And Mario Lemieux was one of the best player ever... Both legitimate hall-of-famer!

  • yo, is this Skullman from the message board?

  • Jiggs McDonald is the PBP announcer, is that Bill Barber doing color?

  • Bill Clemente

  • Eddie Belfour was never bad sir....

  • ed belfour is one of the winningest goalies of all time, he had some rough years but was always in the top tier of goalies when he was in the league.

  • fuck you thats ed belfour

  • Pens glory days are about to be restored.....Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Gonchar, Fleury...lets do it Pens!

  • for the sake of the nhl its great to have the penguins back playing good hockey for the sake of the flyers...it sucks. lol

  • Comment removed

  • i wouldn't want anyone else in nhl history taking that faceoff other than ronny francis

  • Damn Right!!... Ron Francis is great!

  • mario is the best but he scored cuz of a huge rebound

  • cause the goalie couldn't control the rebound... still a good goal!

  • and bc larry murphy's pinpoint accuracy.

  • That was the point of the shot, Murphy wasn't intending to score, he knew a shot off the pads would be a big rebound and Lemieux would be there.

  • Mario Lemieux asked patrick Roy if he had ever driven down route 66..Roy said no...Lemieux said "well tonight you will"

    Hattrick lemieux....He is the greatest

  • HE IS THE GREATEST EVER. 66 FOR LIFE!

  • lets just say mario and wayne would be 1 and 2 on the all time scoring list, mario 1 wayne 2 or wayne 1 mario 2, either way, they were the best to ever play the game

  • Huge choke job by the Hawks.

  • ChetCampbell72: Mario, Jagr, Barrasso, Stevens, Murphy, Samulesson, Coffey, Francis, Tocchet, Mullen, Recchi...

How can anyone choke against a team like that? A good half-dozen are in or are going to the Hall. One of the best teams, ever. The Hawks were just not deep enough. They never had a chance!

  • The Isles were able to beat them WITHOUT Pierre Turgeon.

  • ChetCampbell72: No team is invincible. But, the Pens were definitely loaded. What year are you talking about?

  • Lots of players from the Pens went to the hall, none of that Islanders 1993 team are, not even Turgeon. Pens should steamrolled that Isles team, they didn't, they lost a crucial game 7 at home and protected their still unbeaten record of three straight cups(let alone 4.)

My point is, the Pens relied soley on their finese, the Isles bullied them out of the playoffs.

  • the pens these 2 to 3 years had 1st liners on there 3rd line... they were amazing, if they had bob johnson they would have won it a couple more times

  • This is THE GREATEST moment in The Igloo's history! Gonna miss the old barn.

  • Wow, when I look at that goal, sure Mario scored and yes the players on the ice are hall of fame players, but WHAT A TERRIBLE on ice play by Steve Larmer #28 on that goal. What the hell is Larmer doing out there anyways? They win the draw and he's like almost at the Blue Line....looks like he thought he could cherry pick...what a terrible time to do that.

  • That was an amazing game. What a great hockey team. I am so glad I got to see them play.

  • to have been there! OMG! it must of felt like 10,000 volts! ELECTRIC!

    WOW!

  • You cam hardly blame the Hawks - who do you key on? Jaromir Jagr (future Hall Of Famer), Ron Francis (Hall Of Famer), Mario Lemieux (Hall Of Famer), Larry Murphy (Hall Of Famer), or Kevin Stevens (at that time one of the top power forwards in the league)? Choose your poison!

  • Good question but I key on arguably the greatest goal scorer in history.(Mario)

  • well statistically he is the best goal scorer

  • No doubt -- And he didn't even get to play that many games! He was out on injury so often =(( Imagine if he was in every game -- Wayne's career record would be SHATTERED!

  • no there stats would still very close

  • Actually, they said if Mario stayed healthy, and didn't come back to a shitty team, he would have broke Wayne's records.

  • yeah for sure, wayne played on a stacked team half his career, not to take anything from him but mario is clearly better

  • WORD UP!! If it wasnt for injuries, broke backs and cancer LEMIEUX WOULD HAVE AND STILL BE THE HIGHEST POINTER EVER IN HISTORY!!!!

  • not shattered but he probably would have beat most if he got to play on a stacked team like wayne did

  • On the official score sheet they may as well have credited Ed Belfour with the assist.

  • Belfour could have been the series MVP for Pens. It took Mike Keenan about 3 1/4 games too long to go with Dominick Hasek. Oh well!!

  • Glad i found this on youtube. Its been over 10 years now since ive seen it but I NEVER forgot about that goal. The NHL will never see the likes of how good the back to back penguins teams where ever again.

  • Poor defense by Steve Larmer. Never leave the best player by himself in the defensive zone. Poor Hawks havent came close since that year.

  • Fromthepgh, you really should pay Youtube to remove this comment. Boy are you a dunce.

  • you idiot.. this was before mike lange even started working with the pens

  • What the hell are you talking about? This is 1992. Lange was working for the Penguins starting in 1975. Whose the idiot now?

  • Exactly... This is Jiggs McDonald's call for the Chicago Sportschannel feed. And I am glad that they jus sat there in silence as they showed the then Civic Arena's crowd goin absolutely nuts! That was a great day for Penguins' hockey. Once again, God praise #66... Marioooooooo Lemieuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuux!!!!!

  • wtf are you talking about Boxer27?Mario is God!

  • You really should pay Youtube some money to remove this comment. Boy are you a dunce.

  • Forgive me for contradicting a fellow fan, but Lang began his career with the Pens way back in the mid-seventies; at his Penguins Hall of Fame induction, he described stepping off the plane and being greeted by the smell of sulfur from the steel mills (long gone in '92)and wondering why he left San Diego. That goal by Lemieux and more than 600 others answered his question. Another nice call by him is Lemieux's first NHL goal in '84, worth looking up.

  • Steve Larmer, what were you thinking??? Look at #28 for Chicago...just lets Lemieux skate right by him, while he waits for a breakaway chance with 5 seconds to go. Horrible rebound by Belfour too...

  • 66 Best Ever. I wish it was Mike Langes' call though. so much better.

  • i was just thinkinig the same thing

  • Murphy shot from the point, save made, rebound by Lemieux, HE SHOOTS AND SCORES!! MARIO LEMIEUX! And the Pens take the lead 5-4. AW YOU'D HAVE TO BE HERE TO BELIEVE IT! -Mike Lange

  • hahaha u know it

  • SCRATCH MY BACK WITH A HACKSAW!

  • Even Better..... And Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis haaaaaas Just .. Left... The Building!!

  • people already on their feet, and mario delivers. un-be-lievable

  • one of my idols of hockey

  • one of the best games ever for the pens

  • I remember watching this game live. after the first pierod i thought that the Blackhawks are already the champs. After watching eithier the 2nd or half of the 3rd pierod i couldn't keep my eyes off the TV cause i didn't know who was going to win.

  • That was under Wirtz's ownership. Remember that collapse in less than 60 secs against the Red Wings not so long ago? Where you were ahead something like 3-1 and the wings score 2 Goals in 45 secs or something, then go on to win it in the Shootout?

  • Which teams are u talking about. You said the red wings were playing somebody, but which team was that?

  • Blackhawks.

Red Wings and Blackhawks played a game last year where the Hawks super-choked a sure win.

  • OH YEA! I remember that lol!

  • watch how Lemieux read the play the whole way. outstanding hockey sense.

  • I remember this game like it was yesterday and I still love listening to it. Mike Lange should have done the commentary.

  • I was 2 years old when I watched this and I swear to god I remember it like yesterday

  • "Francis wins the draw. Back to Murphy. Murphy shoots. Off Belfour, rebound, Lemieux .... HEEEEEEEEEEE SHOOTS AND SCORES!"

  • blackcocks fucking suck

  • Mike Lange's call brings chills to my spine when I hear it. Too bad this isn't Mike Lange's call on this video. I can always sync the two though :)

  • "...the Penguins take the lead... 5 to 4... and you'd have to be here... to BELIEVE it!" That WAS a great call...

  • I knocked myself out when this happened by jumping up and down across the room and hitting my head on a door jam. The Mike Lang (Penguins Announcer) call is epic, but this is the best clearity I've seen it in since it happened.

  • BLACKHAWKS FOR LIFE

  • I will nwvwe forget this play as long as I live. Perfectly executed.

  • what the hell was the right winger thinking? he wastent even looking at lemieux never mind covering him like he was supposed to.

  • wow the Sportschannel...boy this crap brings tears to my eyes!

  • i remember when this happened....oh happy days!!!

  • I concur. Belfour doesn't know whether to cry or to wind his watch.

  • Thats some really good quality skullman. Good job. :)

  • fucking penguins, blackhawks for life
