Epic ... By the way, I think that song have two meanings: love of a woman, here, Chimene, for example; but, also, love of the Christ ... that ''flame that came and started to grow'' ... him that we have when we have nothing, then finding everything ...
A bell rings in the hush of the morning A rose petal falls from the gray castle walls Somewhere in Spain My heart sings: ''Oh, my darling, I need you!'' A falcon in love can be tamed of a dove Only in Spain You came to me long, long ago And when you came a flame started to grow (inaudible) When magic takes wings And the glory of kings has flown You still have me and mine alone
"When magic takes wings and the glory of kings has flown. ...you'll still me mine and mine alone." Initial lyrics repeat to close the song. Anyway, that's what I got.
"...a rose petal falls on the gray castle walls of Spain. ...my heart sings, O my darling, I need you. ...a falcon in love can be tamed by a dove; only in Spain. You came to me, long, long ago ...and when you came a flame started to grow. So I knew, Love, it will always be you, Love. (cont.)
I love this movie, but honestly the lack of organ and the lack of the harmonizing of the choir before the credits make this version not stand out for me. The other one is much more emotional and touching.
Films and soundtracks like this truly deserve to be called 'epic'. Such an over-used term these days, but HERE it applies! Films like El Cid and Ben Hur, masterworks, better than most anything you'll find today.
@sensobrando (sigh) Looks like Bruno Leone isn't talking. His CD "Pure Cinema" might have a more intelligible version than the El Cid soundtrack. But you'll have to search high and low for it probably.
I claim direct descent from El Cid through Eleanor De Castile the grandmother of the wife of the founder of my family line, James Butler First Earl of Ormonde. His wife was Eleanor De Bohun.
Good for you. It must be a great honor. I cannot claim any descent from El Cid but he's loved in Valencia and there is a statue in his honor. There's one in California, too.
Correction: ''You'll still be mine and mine alone'' instead of ''You'll have''

The organ is what made the original version so special...the lack of it makes the song boring.
