What kind of drugs are you on? If you think Keith Moon is the greatest drummer you must have some serious mental issues. and Ringo Starr should be as far away from this list as possible.
I only see two or three drummers on here that I would really call great. Not to say that they aren't all perfectly fine drummers, but they certainly aren't innovators, like Keith Moon, Ringo Starr or even Neil Peart.
Did you forget about drummers such as Tito Puente, Ray Barreto, Gene Krupa, Topper Headon, Sheila E., Karen Carpenter, and Def Leppard's awe - inspiring, one - armed drummer, The "Thunder God" himself Rick Allen, just to name a few?
This is really, really, really bad. Are you a drummer or a musician? If so you should be ashamed of yourself. The top 10 great drummers of all time and not a mention of John Bonham? I could go on and on. Lars Ulrich in the top 10? Not even in the top 20.
What? Carl Palmer (ELP, Asia), Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson), or John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) didn't even make your list? I love the Beatles, but Ringo doesn't belong in the top 10. By the way....it's spelled, "course" and it's "Portnoy" People may take you more seriously if you knew how to spell.
Favorite drummers (across all musical genres) - not in any particular order: Keith Moon, Billy Cobham, Bill Bruford, Bob Steeler, Terry Bozzio, Pete Erskine, Dennis Chambers, Jack DeJohnette, Ginger Baker, Omar Hakim
buddy rich, carl palmer, bonzo, moon, ian pace, steve gad, ringo.I dont like all these best drummer list, mostly posted by a bunch of young drummers who only like drummers who show nothing but chops and dont say much when they solo, bozio, lambardo, away from voivod, bill ward.I may be weird but neil peart is to clinical and perfect for my tast, great drummer ,one of the best.
I'd say the #1 spot is between Buddy Rich or Keith Moon. Moon gets the nod from me because he played with such maniacal abandonment yet still in control. He re-difined the way drums are played today. He was a hurricane on a drum.
The guy who has the photo at 1.19, is Steve Judd from Karnivool you fucking fool.. Top list champ. No Bonham, Gavin Harrison or Danny Carey? You're fucking dreaming mate...
No Peter Criss, or Mitch Mitchell? If your talking best drummers they have to be in the top 10...Keith Moon your number one really? Pearts drum solos kill, I put Jordison #3, Lars #2, and of course THE Best drummer of all time Neil Peart #1
Baker still has to be among the best there ever was. Nobody listens to them, so how can they know. Ginger Baker Was the Best drummer Ever Out there. He didn't have the equiptpment at that time. Cream was the besy there ever was, or will be.
why is peart really number 1? every fricking list on youtube about drummers always puts peart in the top 3. the number 1 spot is all over the place - but 80% of the lists that don't have peart as number 1 put him number 2. LOL. I've seen moon as 7th, and 6th, and not even on some lists.
in an interview, John Lennon was asked "Ringo: he's not the best drummer in the world is he?" John replied "he's not even the best drummer in the band". I still love him!
dude what about Danny Carrey from TOOL or Joey Jordison from Slipknot !! And you forgot all about John Bonham from led zepplin !! John and Danny and Joey are a thousand times better than half the drummers you listed !! Really ringo star ??? your a tard learn you drummers and your music !!!!
Well, I don't agree. However, I do agree that the musicians that you chose in your Top 10 are all very good. Keith Moon at the top. That's where you fucked up!
Dave Grohl, Steve Gadd, Wecle,BUDDY RICH ????? Iv'e seen him do circles around most of the drummers you put up here. Buddy Rich is the king. Also where was John Bonham ? You pick groups like incubas, and 2 other of todays rock bands. They are great drummers, but no where near the best. Then you picked Lars. Brhahahhahaaaaaaaaaa....So wheres Travis Barker..Brahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa.
@blaklodge agreed. I wouldn't say "suck", but probably my least favorite track from Number Of The Beast. I personally prefer Clive to Nicko, though Nicko's first effort in Peace Of Mind was tremendous.
more of a high profile drummers list.all well good, but it's all what styles you like etc.i'd hazard a guess the compiler of this list isn't actually a drummer.my top ten ish, would be kinda-likely change if i did a different one next week.john bonham-carl palmer-phil collins, john hiseman-neil peart-ian paice-thomas lang-alan white-josh freese, and defo my number 1,brann dailor of mastodon.he's got jazz licks thrown in all over the place at speed, not robotic and not drum schooled.a force of nature.
If you're going to put Nicko McBrain on this list, at least put a song he did. Clive Burr was Iron Maiden's drummer for Run To The Hills. Nicko took over for Clive after Number Of The Beast; his first album with them was Peace Of Mind.
Are you kidding me pal, these turds cannot even read music and do not even grip the sticks in the correct way, for tympanny that grip is ok but for anything else it is a no-no, the match grip my friend is the one, used by such luminaries as Chick Webb, Gene Krupa, Sonny Page, Louis Belson, Davie Tough, Buddy Rich, and on to Max Roach ad infinitum, don't post on subjects you obviously know nothing about 'cos there are always party poopers like me about.
Steve Gadd? Simon Phillips? Vinnie Coluita? Terry Bozzio? Most of these drummers, with a few exceptions (Neil, Mike and Ringo), are just basic rock drummers, and the clip you posted of Nicko is not exactly representatiuve of his talent.
@dharmaseed Your assessment is essentially valid but I would expand it. What kind of drummers are we dealing with? Is the cartload of excellent jazz drummers over the last 80 years to be ignored?
and Bill Ward? if u love rock as much as i do, it's really difficult to narrow things like this down to a mere few. but i do appreciate your effort to do so, lol
looooooooooolooooooooooooooooolooooooooooooooolooooooooooooooooooolooooooooooooooooooooooooloooooooooooooolollolloll oh my god lolololololololololol loloololollololollol
Buddy Rich is the best drummer of all time. Anyone who says other wise is an idiot. If you dont know who he is, look him up, try to copy what he plays, and tell me im wrong.
@ballybobo I don't know if you'll comprehend this but ringo starr may not be the best drummer but rock was just emerging its not all about skill its about influence just as neil peart he said and i'll quote if you told somebody to play the part on a day in the life they wouldn't know what to do, anyway he is influential and changed drumming forever.
@socsocben No Bonham? But Ringo, yes? mouhahahahahaha. Do yourself a favor, delete this noob list asap, close your youtube account, uninstall Window, sell your comp, and then never come back.
Yo-everyone put the keyboard down and take a breathe. The man said these were his favorites. That is what music is all about, how it touches you. Anyone who gives that much of a shit and has that wild of a hair up there ass to comment negatively... just post your list below or at least your top 5 choices.
What the fuck are u people talking about the main question is where is buddy rich, the greatest drummer who ever lived and who basically was an inspiration to all of these drummers.
@iniquitouss - Queen are King. Roger Taylor along with Roger Deacon's bass playing was like crazy glue. (Another nod for Bonham/Jones actually, Zeppelin's music would sound much diminished without these two.)
You don't really have a rhythm section without good bass!
Dude........... Put your guitar down and step away from the 8-track player. No one is better then Portnoy. It's simple fact. And where is Herb??? No top ten drummer list is complete without Tim Herb Alexander.
Just the guy's opinion you geeks. Sure he could have really liked John Bonham, or Robb Reiner or Bill Ward and Mitch Mitchell for that matter. He posted HIS favorites.
I think a lot of favorites are associated to the music we like. Even then I find Peart and McBrain not all that exciting, for all their technical skill, but I will go see them play live because the bands are great!
Ringo Starr wtf???? and Keith Moon was a piece of shit drummer by the way, where are the jazz drummers like buddy rich, or that guy that is called the doctor of drums.....mmmm.... let me see if I can remember....... oh yeah FUCKIN STEVE SMITH, Bonzo, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Horacio Hernandez, Steve Gadd, Antonio Sanchez, Slipknot's drummer who is a mother fucker in drums, and.... Oh what the hell Im not in the mood to give you a class right now, bye kid.
@MrPerezCosta ringo Starr is so underated.. He's awesome. And you can't argue about Kieth Moon, He is a god. You don't have to play quick to be a good drummer.
@TheOasisNerd yeah, very wrong, it's not about playing fast, it's about how you can do it without doing that much,I mentioned the guy from Slipknot (Joey Jordison) because hes a master in that even with the pedals, like Neil Peart just to mentioned another good drummer. No wonder he is not underrated. Ringo Starr is underrated beacuse he wasnt that good man, that's it, and Keith Moon it's even out of the question, there are videos of him here that he's completely out of time man.
As all of the other commenters pointed out, you're a fucking idiot. You know people played the drums before alternative music was invented. Ringo fucking star?? How about Max Roach, Buddy Rich, John Bonham, etc... The people you have on this list are shit pop rock musicians. Take a trip to juliard, for every rock drummer you can name there are a dozen juliard freshman that can eat them for breakfast.
This is a list of fashion with just due respect for Peart and Moon receiving top billing. For sheer talent I would put Peart ahead of Moon with a faint asterisk noting Moon's early demise. Without question the lower tier needs amending unless of course we are listing personal favorites.
Just for your information. Dave Grohl played the drums on Everlong. Dave redid the entire album because he hated the sound quality, then Taylor joined the band.
Based on your list, anyone who abuses double bass and/or can do rolls is one of the top 10 drummers of all time. That means my brother is in that list, which he isn't. With the exception of Neil Peart, this list is crap. You should have put drummers like Steve Gad, Buddy Rich, and Terry Bozzio on this list.
nobody's going to agree completely with any top ten list this is this guys opinion. and i for one think its a damn good top ten. i go 100% with Kieth being no 1 and many top drummers say they were influenced by him so i guess they agree. Tommy lee not here? good. good guy overrated drummer. no John Bonham? that"s the biggest omission on the list. damn good list though.
Tony Royster Jr, Steve Gadd, Buddy Rich, Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Gene Krupa, Ginger Baker, Baby Dodds, Cozy Cole, Jojo Mayer, John Bonham... not even ONE?
you all should really chill. music is subjective, not objective, and it's really sad to see how many people don't get that. more goes into how good a drummer is than being able to play complex difficult stuff. dom and jose are prob my favorite drummers of all time because i think that they are really skilled in playing just the right part to add to the music without over or under doing it. and that's my OPINION.
All good solid stick men and a fine list, missed a few big guns though, the biggest being Buddy Rich. You cannot possibly have a list of the greatest drummers and not have him as number one. He is so far and away the best ever.
if you think john bonham is overrated you know nothing about music or druming he never used a double kick on his bass drum and gets the same sound with one petal he is the godfather of druming know your shit before you comment
my dick is a better drummer than that fucking twat lars ulrich

Jsmes Brown's drummers were killer insane.

TheOasisNerd 1 month ago 2
@TheOasisNerd yeah, very wrong, it's not about playing fast, it's about how you can do it without doing that much,I mentioned the guy from Slipknot (Joey Jordison) because hes a master in that even with the pedals, like Neil Peart just to mentioned another good drummer. No wonder he is not underrated. Ringo Starr is underrated beacuse he wasnt that good man, that's it, and Keith Moon it's even out of the question, there are videos of him here that he's completely out of time man.
MrPerezCosta 1 month ago
As all of the other commenters pointed out, you're a fucking idiot. You know people played the drums before alternative music was invented. Ringo fucking star?? How about Max Roach, Buddy Rich, John Bonham, etc... The people you have on this list are shit pop rock musicians. Take a trip to juliard, for every rock drummer you can name there are a dozen juliard freshman that can eat them for breakfast.
pinepowerisajoke 1 month ago
This is a list of fashion with just due respect for Peart and Moon receiving top billing. For sheer talent I would put Peart ahead of Moon with a faint asterisk noting Moon's early demise. Without question the lower tier needs amending unless of course we are listing personal favorites.

Mitch Mitchell/John Bonham/Ian Paice?

I like how at the ending he says please subscribe to see more videos like this yet he only has 4. Haha.

Just for your information. Dave Grohl played the drums on Everlong. Dave redid the entire album because he hated the sound quality, then Taylor joined the band.
ESUSAMEX 1 month ago
Based on your list, anyone who abuses double bass and/or can do rolls is one of the top 10 drummers of all time. That means my brother is in that list, which he isn't. With the exception of Neil Peart, this list is crap. You should have put drummers like Steve Gad, Buddy Rich, and Terry Bozzio on this list.

where's gene krupa, what a suck list
hotmn4u 2 months ago
nobody's going to agree completely with any top ten list this is this guys opinion. and i for one think its a damn good top ten. i go 100% with Kieth being no 1 and many top drummers say they were influenced by him so i guess they agree. Tommy lee not here? good. good guy overrated drummer. no John Bonham? that"s the biggest omission on the list. damn good list though.
redraven3211 2 months ago
@redraven3211 Kieth Moon had shit timing and uncomplicated fills. All flash, no substance.

Lars better than Nicko?
Not a fucking chance in hell!
Take one of lars bass drums out, and see if he can do what Nicko does.
Nicko started out pumping out bass like a rabbit of crack! There usedto be an arguement if he used a double bass.
We all found out that he wasn't using a double.
That's Nicko.
Lars? LOL
Please now, You're killing me.

you all should really chill. music is subjective, not objective, and it's really sad to see how many people don't get that. more goes into how good a drummer is than being able to play complex difficult stuff. dom and jose are prob my favorite drummers of all time because i think that they are really skilled in playing just the right part to add to the music without over or under doing it. and that's my OPINION.
joshd344 2 months ago
Keith Moon also had a dynamic stage presence that put a exclamation mark to his spectacular drumming skills..a drum LEGEND!

All good solid stick men and a fine list, missed a few big guns though, the biggest being Buddy Rich. You cannot possibly have a list of the greatest drummers and not have him as number one. He is so far and away the best ever.
