  • Best Mix esp the keys at

    :31 and throught!

    xo

  • you guys should all know that shep samples heavily from salsoul records where i think he used to work, and neither madonna nor janet had this beat first (like luke silver said). it comes from 'ooh, i love it (love break)' by salsoul orchestra. shep just adds his "bazooka snare" to everything (like in this track at 0:24...three times in a row). it's a simple formula you guys will recognize in all his mixes.

  • @lukeandally Perhaps Vogue is derived from salsoul but I don't hear it sampled directly. For instance the hi-hat on vogue and salsoul are completely different, vogue has an open hi-hat (cymbal bark) and salsoul has closed hats throughout. There is a bongo riff that is not as complex as the salsoul record, and there is a tamborine (if I hear it right) shaking in the background which is absent from the salsoul record. Similarities I hear are the consistent upbeat snare groove.

  • BTW Peeps - This remix & Vogue were both recorded around the same time in 1989, Shep Pettibone used the same beat twice on more than one occasion, if you search for some of his other work, you'll see for your selves. ;)

  • @2highwithredeyes what shep does is put his trademark "bazooka snare" on everything (like 3 times in a row starting at 0:24). plus he samples a lot from salsoul records where i think he used to work.

  • NO, actually, the vogue beat/bass predates both Madonna and Janet

  • He used this groove for Madonna already on Express Yourself, released in 1989 like this track. Not sure which one was released first.

  • @0x51d Yes, but this is CLEARLY the Vogue beat. He used it for Janet first.

  • @0x51d IT's really not the same thing for express yourself .!!

  • Madonna's "Vogue" beat is derived from a Janet remix...CLASSIC!

  • @knmlover wrong. shep took the vogue beat from "ooh I love it (love breaks)" by salsoul orchestra. neither janet nor madonna had it first. sorry to disappoint...

  • Yeah, Pettibone had a pretty distinctive style. I could always recognize his work without too much trouble. I knew it was him instantly when I heard Vogue the first time. A very simple yet solid deep-house style.

  • I've always loved Pettibone work but I have to admit he didn't look far to "create" the "Vogue" music for Madonna later...

  • Oh look Janet has a outie !

  • never heard this remix before...thanx
