  • My Kinzu just turns itself off sometimes .... -.-

  • TALK LOUDER!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the review. Looks like I'm gonna stick with the decade old 1.1 for now.

It's a shame there aren't more mice with a similar shape. Have you had a chance to try out the Zowie Mico? Supposed to have a really good sensor but with build quality issues. Even the the new 1.1's aren't very good anymore.

  • @rayachheuy 7aNYX26Gu8M - just search zowie mico review, i don't post under this account anymore

  • @rayachheuy I actually run the website eSports Project, and I reviewed the MiCO. :P

  • @Timebubbles Sounds about right.

  • does this problem exist for xai too?

  • macro support?

  • hmm arent u sure its just about setting up ur cfg right ? i mean it makes sens it has faster sens if it accelarates alla mouse_accel settings i have tried through my quake xp and other fps is the same result as you the accel is faster so u must adjust ur main sens and adjust the accel. well to be honest dude i must tell from here it seems ur cross is living its own life jumping like crazy that i noticed instant i dont mean any negative about this just want to help HF GL

  • @proz1 It's a known fact that the Kinzu has mouse acceleration, SteelSeries has listed it as a feature after all of the reviews about it came to the same conclusion. Every Kinzu every produced has mouse acceleration. If you don't notice it, it's because you don't play on a low enough sensitivity for it to kick in. I've reviewed this mouse three different time, with five different Kinzus, and they all had it. This is the only mouse I have tested that has native acceleration.

  • @EthanNixon They fixed that my friend has that mouse and hes doesnt have that problem any more

  • @proz1 Visit SteelSeries' website, it lists acceleration as a feature... It's in every Kinzu mouse...

  • is the problem FIX YET ????

  • So how good is this mouse is in 3200dpi?

  • I just bought a SteelSeries Xai, i can tell that is the best mouse ever

  • Does anyone think that this mouse is too light?

  • Acceleration actually helps flickshoting

  • intellimouse 3.0 or kinzu?

  • @Mastermoviez Two completely different mice, one is ergonomic and the other is ambidextrous. One has prediction, the other doesn't.

  • I recently picked up a MX518 for £17 as I was getting annoyed by my Razer copperhead (very old now)

I know people live by this mouse but for me the shape and placement of the side buttons was just awkward and didnt fit my "claw" grip style. I am now looking for another mouse primarily for fps and wow (hence the need for the side buttons) and I'm torn between this kinzu and the Zowie EC2.

If the Kinzu had the 2 side buttons it wud be perfect!

  • @R3aCt0rM1nd

If the Kinzu had side buttons, it would never be replaced for my personal use. :P

  • @R3aCt0rM1nd dude just get a naga it's perfect for everything :P

  • Dude! Get Call of Duty 4! =D! but i think the Xai seems better and im think im gonna buy it :D! but im serius!! Cs Really sux! i have tryd it :(

  • @stgsweden cause you suck and pub

  • wn ofe

  • this or Logitech mx18 ?

  • @masni92 PErsonal preference.

  • @masni92 MX18!

  • @xjod9

;D yep and its the mx518 btw :DDD

  • Comment removed

  • you are retard man =D

  • I finally understand it, douches who can't play cs spend a shit load of money on useless mice, I have a 3 $ logitech and I still pwn half of the css community, and I'll bet that if I will buy a razer mamba, I would still have the same skill, don't you see it???

  • @Xcpr1 No, I don't understand what you just said. It might be a combination of your low IQ or your horrific grammar though.

What I think you were trying to say is, you don't need a good mouse to be good. If that is the case, you're dumb as fuck.

  • @Xcpr1 toppplooooord

  • Windows vista and 7 has your acceleration, not the mouse -.-, so fix it and you will see the difference , cpl fix wont work but others do

  • @fr011000 If you bothered to read the other 168 comments, you would see the amount of people who have NATIVE HARDWARE ACCELERATION in this mouse. It has nothing to do with my computer specifications. I just recently reviewed this mouse AGAIN for ESEA.net and it STILL has acceleration and I am on Windows XP.

    PLEASE READ FIRST.

    Thanks.

  • @EthanNixon well then you have one of the first version which still has it

  • @fr011000 I've had four Kinzus in the past like 6 months. Three came from SteelSeries directly and the other from NewEgg. If it was fixed, it would have been posted on FragYou.net and I would have been notified and sent another to review. Read ANY review done by a gamer, they will all say the same thing.

  • The SteelSeries Kinzu was built with hardware level acceleration which is preferred by some of the top gamers in the world. Although mouse acceleration has been coined as a villain in some gaming circles, it is slowly but surely becoming a valued feature for certain top gamers whom can utilize its benefits to the fullest

  • sick mouse! i have one

  • what should i get ... razer DA ,IE 3.0 or kinzu?

  • @xXUnDeRN3tXx from those choices i'd pick up kinzu (i own one), but im right now deciding to buy a new mouse, maybe roccat kone or logitech g500... i've also tried razer DA but didn't like the shape at all

  • @MadCrokodile1 I bought the kinzu.. works perfect ^^

  • until now, does the "positive acceleration" had been fix by steelseries ?

  • @hijrah It has not, there have been no updates since my latest comments.

If they have a new update, I will make another video though. :P

  • @EthanNixon aitee, thanks. mybe getting one next month :D

  • dude where can i get one of those mushrooms?

  • @paskin36 I got it on eBay, it's a coin bank. :P

  • @EthanNixon awesome dude, was it expensive?

  • @paskin36 I think it was a couple of dollars to be honest. Just type "mushroom coin bank" in an eBay search. :P

  • @EthanNixon thanks man, cool review by the way. :)

  • my xai is having the same problem...its really annoying...will they release new updates to remove it?

  • @pighead5225 If you are talking about acceleration, your Xai can turn it off via the on-screen software. I have had two Xai's and haven't had an acceleration issue with them yet.

  • Man I want one of those mushrooms !

  • @drasl me too

  • @praNkeDbyMe Again, I'm not stupid. This has been covered so many times that this mouse has POSITIVE acceleration. Read the comments before posting useless information. Those commands don't go in your console either, they go in your launch options.

People need to get over the fact this mouse has acceleration. I review products as my side job, so I know what I'm talking about....

  • with the kinzu u can turn acceleration on and off with the software

  • @ultimedman No you can't. It is native to the sensor, stop chiming in with things that are incorrect. That "acceleration" is for the operating system and not the mouse itself. This is a FACT that the Kinzu has natural acceleration that CANNOT be fixed by any means.

  • It doesn't glide at all, needs a lot of force to move"

I use it in combo with a ss 4D, works perfectly, minimum friction.

  • @Owminator No matter what mouse you have, they will always glide on a hard pad. Having a mice not glide isn't necessarily a bad thing though. However, hard pads will always glide, that is why they are made. When I use my Kinzu, I pair it with the 9HD and it glides a lot.

  • @EthanNixon

Steelseries definitely make the best mouse pads, with a pretty wide selection. I used to use the QcK, and when i got the 4D, i was like "HOLY SH-- THIS THING GLIDES ALL OVER THE PLACE FTW!"

Pretty much proving your point, since the QcK is a cloth pad.

  • @Owminator The QcK isn't a bad mat, but it will have to go through a refresh to compete with the new ones. Going from cloth to hard is a 100% difference.

  • yeah, nice mouse

  • There hasn't been a firmware update in months, so the acceleration is still there.

  • so, did it fix it with the latest firmware? cheers

  • @iSNiPEjust There hasn't been a new firmware in a while I don't think, so no.

  • where did you get that

  • @tushigiinh ESEAmarket()com

  • LOL thats not even quick !!! and so big acceleration

  • @salam14111 It is quick, it just looks slower when you are watching someone do it. I don't ever move my hand that fast when using the Kinzu since it has acceleration, lol.

  • Hi, I wanna ask you a question. Is the Razor DeathAdder a good gaming mouse?

  • Got a XAI yet?

  • You got youre fps_max set to 100 lol set that to 300

  • So to be clear, positive accel still present even with new firmware?

  • @aUsernameAvailable

There hasn't been a new firmware update since December 4, 2009, so to answer your question: No.

  • @EthanNixon lolwut.. you can disable accel in registers and in your game startup settings XP

fail.. its not the mouse its ur PC!

  • @xsannyx

Again, stop with the ignorant comments. I was using Windows 7, and the acceleration is a well-documented problem with the Kinzu.

  • @EthanNixon omg you can use mousefix!

    i tried it u know!

  • @xsannyx

Again, stop with the ignorant comments. The acceleration is NATIVE to the sensor and firmware, no amount of adjustment to the operating system will fix it.

  • @EthanNixon w0w you really need to go back to school...You have no idea bout the mouse acc.

  • @Shuunz How do I have no idea about it? It is a known fact that there is plenty of mouse acceleration, check other videos. Keep ignorant comments to yourself, thanks.

  • o and dude, the reason your "positive acceleration" its because when u move your hand fast, you arent moving as accurate as u are when u are moving slow

therefore if you play with higher sensitivity and move your hand a smaller distance u would actually be more accurate.

    GG *cough*

  • @tragedy866

Sorry to disappoint you, but even if youbwere right, that makes absolutely no sense. If I wasn't being as accurate, the mouse would have "negative acceleration" since I would be missing pixels. Like I demonstrated in the video, the mouse moved the same distance everytime.

This is a know distinction in the mouse.

Even with all of this "acceleration" problems that Kinzu users are having, I still use this mouse as my primary gaming mouse.

  • kinzu support win7?!!!!!! PLEASE TELL ME!!

  • off course it does idiot

  • yes it does, and its pretty sweet, not a steelseries fan for sound but this mouse is worthy for what you pay for.

  • I think this mouse is great. Before i used a logitech mx518 and thought it would be good because of its ergonomic shape, but it turns out a plain looking mouse was the best.

also what kind of mat do you use?

  • The mouse pad I use most is the ZOWIE G-TF. Another pad that works really well is the PureTrak Talent.

  • nice review... im playing css 2 and i need a new mouse ...so i also need many opinions about different mices

  • The beat mouse out right now is the Xai, but it does not have mature software yet. There are also many defective units too, as I got one. You can't go wrong with an Intellimouse 1.1, 3.0, 518, or Deathadder.

  • i saw many ppl have the 518 from logitech and many many ppl have a good opinion about that mouse

  • I have never used the 5xx series from Logitech because I don't like ergonomic mice for gaming, but plenty of gamers use them. Everyone goes through their share of mice, I would purchase whatever looks the most pleasing to you and try to stay with that.

  • thanks man

  • Yea, I didn't mean for it to be at the time I did it. I was just going to a tournament and wanted it to be up as early as possible, or I would have to wait another four day. -_-

  • Oh what?

  • Nice review.

  • I updated with firmware 1.0.10 and my god my mouse started skipping pixels. Was working fine with 1.0.6/7 Wish I never updated it. I did support ticket and they didnt replay. I wish I can downgrade my firmware. :((

  • Comment removed

  • @sondrek No, this doesn't fix the Kinzu. The only thing that can fix the Kinzu is a firmware update from SteelSeries, not a registry file for Windows 7. If that was the case, why does it happen on XP and Vista. I am removing your post, use a link next time.

  • Comment removed

  • i did and nearly shat my self when i changed video and my house nearly blew up bacuse i turned it up so much

  • Yes, sorry about that.

Like the information says, I did it at like 4:30AM and I just woke up. :P

  • @EthanNixon this mouse is for baby hands seriously

  • It is a small mouse, but so is the WMO.

  • The audio is fine, turn up your volume.

  • im not sure, but i went to steelseries website and i looked kinzu mouse description and there was..

    accerlation on/off

  • It is off, SteelSeries tried to put in an algorithm to reduce the negative acceleration or to make the sensor perform better and they just didn't test it before it was released I guess...

  • I actually thought about than when I tried the Xai with the 9HD. It felt like a cloth pad because of its speed, but ha the smoothness of a hard pad.

When I get my own 9HD and Xai, I will be sure to update the video with my experience. Also, all new videos will be posted at eSportsReviews.

  • That is great, it really is. However, the majority of users who were having problems before are still having problems. You should actually test it. Do what I did in the video, and I will guarantee that you still have acceleration.

  • do you have any acceleration on your kinzu?

  • I accidentally deleted the guy's comment above this one. I have always had my hertz jump when I tested it. It actually depended on how fast or slow I moved the mouse in the program. I would test it at a steady speed rather than a varying one. Sorry for deleting your comment, I use my iPhone to post quickly and the delete option is next to the reply button.

  • No I dont have acc. on Apparently its a comm problem with Kinzu with not stable hzs and +/- acc problem. Its very good mouse for shape and build wise but optical should be tweaked better.

  • That is what they say. I still get massive acceleration on any CPI count.

  • 1.0.10 did not change anything as far as acceleration. I have no idea what they changed at all, because it didn't change my firmware.

  • Sorry guys, I am at a LAN right now. I don't know if there will be Internet for me to download the drivers. I will ask an admin if I can't download it and then I will update you guys!

  • kk have a nice game ahaha :D

  • the acceleration is STILL not fixed.

  • ye give us the feedback plz :s

  • Ethan, theres new drivers out today. Will you give them a try and give us a feedback?

  • set launch options> -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd

    try it

  • Read through all of the comments before posting, I am sure I covered this.

I have been playing for many years to know to keep those commands on.

  • lol...wht ever

  • Those won't solve anything as the acceleration is within the mouse. The acceleration persist outside games as well. Only solution for this issue is imo new firmware.

  • The new drivers, version 1.0.9, has not fixed the acceleration issue.

  • just a heads up, steelseries released new drivers again.

  • I am trying them out now.

  • 1.0.9 did not fix the acceleration problem.

  • and what is your opinion now?

  • A new update of kinzu :D whats your opinion about it now?

  • I am trying them out now.

  • 1.0.9 did not fix the acceleration problem.

  • I had a problem with my Ikari laser, and their customer support was fantastic. I opened a support ticket, and they sent me a new mouse within 2 weeks. What I suggest you do if you have to wait longer is either tell them so send you another mouse, or replace the Kinzu that you have with the Xai.

  • It is hard to do that when they don't respond to their support tickets.

I had a similar problem with my Ikari Laser and it took them over two months to respond to a ticket, in which case was too late because I ended up giving it away.

  • good vid, definitely gonna take this into account when deciding which product to purchase after my mx518 dies.

  • I would seriously consider the Zowie 1.1 Bundle. If you want a basic gaming mouse with an extraordinary mouse pad, then Zowie is the way to go right now.

  • steelseries apparently just released new drivers. you try it out yet? According to some guy on gotfrag its supposed to be "good". i believe the newset drivers are 1.0.8

  • I just tried it out now, and it did not fix anything with positive acceleration atleast on my mouse.

  • so did they send you a new one yet?

  • No, they never offered. The only real thing they said is they know if the problem and sent it to their engineering division. It has been about two-three weeks since they updated my ticket.

I will ask for a update from them tonight.

  • I got my Kinzu 2 days ago it was on offer on website Kinzu + Qck mini £20 only! So I thought it must be OEM without box and cd.

When I got it it was different than Kinzu you got. Not much diff. Just scroll wheel is black not grey as urs. And cord is not braided its like cord they use on Mx518 :( Disappointed with that BUT mouse itself is very good. I do have slightly +ve accel but I can play easy with it. Just cord is problem coz mouse is light. And it stucks to my workstation drower. :(

  • I suggest you get a mouse bungee, or the new Razer Armadillo II.

  • Yes I got Armadillo but my cord is still fly in the air. Kinda hard to explain. xd I forget to maintion that side of my Kinzu is not rubberized its as same as top BUT with different color. I attached side rubber grip so it will got little wider and I can hold properly. Glidez are shit doesnt glide at all on my QCK WoW mousepad. I attached 3 taflon feet which I baught for my Deathadder and didnt fit them properly. Now it glides perfect. My aim is like incresed 20% more accurate. XD

  • It has a rubber paint to it, not that it is a rubber material.

  • When trying this did u use the noforce commands in launch options? (-noforcemparms, -noforcemaccel) I assume that u have the "enchanted pointer precision" box unchecked also or ur results wouldnt be that accurate. Great review btw.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I used all of the noforce commands as well as disabling the "Enhanced Pointer Precision". Just to make sure it wasn't Windows 7, I plugged in my Intellimouse 1.1 and had no positive acceleration, just the negative acceleration that everyone gets from the Intelli series.

I will have a Xai video review up around the beginning of December. Thank you for watching my video and commenting!

  • i'm a Salmosa user and i'm interested in buying a Kinzu. i use fingertip grip. some things i don't like about salmosa: right mouse button squeaked and i had to spray WD-40 inside. the surface of the mouse wheel is too slippery, imo. and now the plastic on the left mouse button is starting to peel off. i want the kinzu, but i don't like how it doesn't have teflon feet. but i heard they may be making teflon feet for it. and now i hear about some acceleration issues. so i may wait a bit.

  • oh yea..and that razer logo that's on the salmosa...that fades and ends up looking really bad

  • I think you will have acceleraion problem only when you move accross the surface with too much speed. We usually dont do it in game. Personally I dont.

  • what about fingertrip grip for this mouse ?

    dose it feel good ?

i play with hight sensitivity speed :

setting in game : 4 (counter strike source )

    widows : 6/11

  • I personally use a fingertip grip, only the tips of my finger rest on the mouse unless I am awping. I like it for fingertip grip because it is smaller and a little easier to move around. It does take a little bit to get used to how small it is though.

When I awp I tend to rest a little of my palm on it.

  • so Ethan , you thing its good for hight sensitivity player ??

i got steelseries mass and i think IMO that mouse are going to be perfect !

  • The mouse is technically fine for me, and I play with a medium sensitivity. It is only on rare occasions that I move my mouse so fast that the malfunction speeds kicks in.

I think if you play with high sensitivity, it will be fine for you.

  • I was thinking of either getting a Salmosa or a Kinzu.

Can you shed any light on which is better?

  • I have never used the Salmosa, but I heard it is a pretty good mouse. Both are small and have no side buttons.

If you need a mouse right now I would go with the Salmosa since it doesn't have the issues the Kinzu has.

  • Thanks for the response, I already ordered a Salmosa.

  • Dont get Salmosa! I have 1 and its way too light and dont have rubber side grips. And lift off distance is high. Kinzu has nice weight balance and rubber grip. Hopefilly they will sort out positive acc in next firmware update. I am buying one for christmas because I dont move mouse that fast on my mat. I have less space for kinda 30 cm so hopefully I might not have much problem with +ve acc.

  • I ordered a Salmosa because I wanted a light mouse. I don't really need rubber side grips, I can grip plastic fine.

The Salmosa was really cheap, I got it for $19.99; shipped.

The Kinzu is like $40, so I went the half-priced route.

  • Good luck with it. Salmosa can go 800 and 1800 dpi only which is nice but I play on 400 dpi ^^ besides I dont find Salmosa as accurate as Mx518 im using. Deathadder also doesnt track as good as Mx518. I also have G9 Lachesis Deathadder IME 3.0! The only one gives me best tracking and accurate aim is Mx518! I optimized usb rate to 250hzs thats it. :) But I dont get proper grip with Mx518 I am finguretip grip used with resting my wrist on mousepad. So I think Kinzu will fit to my hand perfectly!

  • I've heard 1000 Hz is the best, is it bad to have it too high?

  • 1000Hz is the ideal number you want to have your mouse at. However, if you feel inconsistency in your mouse, turn the Hz down to 500.

  • What do you mean by inconsistency?

  • If your computer cannot handle 1000Hz, you might experience a slight lag the faster you move your mouse. If that is the case, lower your Hz so you can have a more consistent experience. :P

  • Grrr.

What determines how much Hz my computer can handle?

My computer is about 6 years old, I'm not sure if it can handle 1000 Hz.

  • More thank likely your computer can handle it. As long as you don't have too many USB's plugged in.

  • I have about 3~4 USB's plugged in. Is that a lot?

  • You shouldn't have a problem. I have 6 USB connections and one of them is a four port hub, all being powered by an external PSU, I forget the wattage on it though.

  • Thanks a lot for the help.

Can you shed some light on good mouse pads though?

  • If you're looking for a cloth mousepads, they are all pretty much the same. Some good companies are SteelSeries, Xtrac Pad, and Razer. For hard pads, anything from SteelSeries, Func, or Qpad are good.

I personally use the QCK Heavy, it's a good mousepad for LANs to smooth out the bumps in their desks.

  • I was thinking of getting a QCK Mini because it's pretty cheap.

How much did you get your Heavy for?
