You might read the rules and think the intent is that the puck must always be moving forward. But the way it's called on the ice permits stick handling and movement of the puck in any direction. It's certain that whatever the puck movement, the skater must always be moving forward and continuously be in motion. Look at St. Louis last year when he did a spin-o-rama in a shoot-out. When that is allowed you can safely say the puck doesn't always have to move towards the goal.

Briere nearly lost his goal due to this rule (rule 24.2).. which states in brief "The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent’s goal line".. I highlight "motion towards" because clearly Kane pulls the puck back. No mention of player having to move forward, but focus on the puck. I think the boys in the war room missed this one.

@adamn4406 motion towards is very vague wording ie..move toward going side to side,diagonal,straight forward ect..)...in my opinion and obviously in the opinion of the refs RIGHT ON TOP of the play and the war room watching every second of it, as long as Kane has total control of the puck which he does and he continues to move "toward" the goal so does the puck...either way the goalie got his ass handed to him lmao

That literally happens on at least half of all shootout attempts. When a guy is coming in from a wide position -- turning his body towards the boards -- every stick handle he makes goes forward then back. No ref will call that. I don't see any reason to call it in this situation because none of his stick handles were blatant violations. If this rule was called by the letter of the law they'd have to disallow about half of all shootout goals.
